That 1991 Bulls team has one of the best defensive teams ever!!You look at old footage, you see how fast they recover. How they close up openings. Michael and Scottie jumping in and out of passing lanes. I know this is a different age, but I think they would very effective today just as much as they were then even with the 3 point shooting.

In 1991, the Bulls were ascending and the Lakers were descending. Yet Magic willed his team into the Finals one more time. That means from 1980 to 1991, the Lakers missed only 3 Finals. This was the Bulls first Finals under Jordan.

As a Laker fan, this was the most disappointing Finals for me because this Lakers team was hurt and far from what the 80s Showtime Lakers were. There was no more: Pat Riley, Kareem, Michael Cooper, Jamal Wilkes, and Bob MacAdoo. Worthy was hurt and only himself in game 1 with 33 points; he missed games 2 and 5, I believe. Byron Scott was hurt and sucked in this series. Magic had little help against a young, athletic, and hungry Bulls team.

With James Worthy and Byron Scott riding the pine nursing injuries Magic Johnson did not have enough firepower. Air Jordan and the Chicago Bulls won their first title and started an era of domination. Great series. Very exciting. I remember watching this live back in 1991.

thkalas pretty intense but you are right Magic was still in his prime. He wasn’t old. He was 2nd in mvp winner the year before. He and MJ was battling for the top spot. I don’t think people realize that outside of Celtics MJ was knocking off the top players in their prime.

Its a inch difference in the vertical but 46 for mike 45 for James. Which one you stopping? That was an awesome moment in sports. I had been a Jordan fan since day one, watching every game, every year on Chicago Sports Channel. All my relatives were Knicks fans who told me Jordan wasn't going to win a title but that didn't hold up. Watching Jordan and his Bulls teams was great at the time but a privilege now. In 2021 Jordan is still talked about far more than any current player and it doesn't surprise me one bit. I don't think there will ever be a player like Jordan again because it had to happen at the right time and that time is gone. Great players will come and go as they have but people are still wearing Jordan's on their feet not those guy's shoes and Jordan has been retired for how long? If a guy came along scoring 50 a night he would never be a big a star as Jordan.

Jordan is also great benefactor of Nike, and the era of television - MTV and satellite international TV. He was also the brand, although Pippen and later years Rodman would largely complement his game.

@Robert Johnson you do realize when they compare all time greatness, they are not using this 91 bulls team, right? They use the one with Rodman, Harper and Kukoc on it. The one that won like 72 games. That team also had 7'2 Longley. He might get beat by the Shaq's or Hakeem's of the basketball world but his size can make them miss some shots or he can foul them.

The Lakers weren't even supposed to be in the Finals that year, but they upset Portland in the WCF.

True, but the Bulls beat the Blazers team the very next year, so wouldn't have mattered. Same outcome. That was definitely not "peak" showtime lakers though...

I'm glad it always tell me it was the 1991 FINALS GM 5. I found myself forgetting every 30sec.

I remember watching this when I was a kid I was so happy

Magic is one of the guys that is capable of taking MJ on in a one-one battle. He basically controls the offence for the Lakers. His passes are legendary and he is also capable of turning into a deadly scorer if needed to. Even MJ have to respect him as Magic style of play outplayed Jordan at times and made MJ change tactics, forcing MJ to play like him, becoming a passer of the ball which is not MJ’s style.

Magic couldn't even attempt to guard Jordan 1 on 1. At least Jordan would take it upon himself to guard magic for long stretches

This was when the NBA was the NBA. Today? Zone defense, every game a three pointer contest, analytics making players timid... the game is completely ruined for me as a fan. I'd rather watch a Finals match up from 30 years ago than what passes for pro basketball now any day.

Magic and A.C. Green was the only starters playing against the Bulls. So to all you Jordan d**k riders, it wasn't like the Bulls beat the great Lakers team. If Byron Scott and Worthy would've played, all the close Bulls wins, would've been loses.

Damn!!! I remember this! Growing up watching The Lakers in the 80's.... this ended showtime. I hated The Bulls back then for what they did to end this Lakers Dynasty!!!! Gotta respect how good they were though!! New blood, new style, longer shorts!!! What a change MJ had on the game!!!!

Bulls reigned all the way through the 90s (ending in 1998) and then the next decade came the Lakers right back with 5 more championships from 2000-2002 and 2009 & 2010.

Showtime Lakers were my favorite team but my favorite player was Jordan (just beats out Magic by an inch in my book) during this time. After this series, the Bulls became my favorite team until Jordan retired.

Magic vs Jordan was a crazy matchup. i didnt grow up in this time period but these guys are another level. Jordan created a dynasty. the blueprint, the GOAT

Cool Stuff. I saw at least 4 moves from Jordan that I've never seen anyone come close to making it look as easy and smooth as him. Magic was coming up on 32 years of age and Jordan was at that prime age of "28". Magic's mental game was as sharp as Jordan's. Wish we could watch another combo like Jordan and Pippen.

Im not saying Lebron isn't top 5 all time. Im saying Lebron isn't a better scorer than Kevin Durant , Kobe, Curry or MJ. Yeah Lebron is efficient but those other guys really have no weakness in scoring.

Majic was in 11th year.and had 5 chips. 3MVPS and no one in the league could stop him. This is the guy that made his teammates better. Should never be rank out of the top 5 greatest of all-time.

@@far9462 Yeah Kobe's the third best guard to ever play for the Lakers. Jerry west and Magic were tied for first, but Magic was better at winning.

It would so great to view these in a full HD resolution. I believe these were shot in SD at the time. Hopefully one day a way will be invented to upgrade SD footage to HD
