MAGIC Jackson Delivers Again! Ryan Mcleod Traded to BUFFALO !!
Quick and decisive is what can describe the Oiler’s Interim GM / CEO / Hockey Wiz !
Out of nowhere he trades away #71 Ryan Mcleod to the Buffalo Sabres on a cap dump, not only did he get rid of the $2.1M cap hit, the Oiler’s received a 2022 1st Round 9th Overall pick in Matthew Savoie in return !
What a bargain !
Reviewing Ryan Mcleod as an Oiler:
PROS:
- FAST FAST SKATER, ONE OF THE FASTEST IN THE LEAGUE
- GOOD DEFENSIVELY AT TIMES, WHEN HE FEELS LIKE BACK CHECKING
- LOTS OF POSITIVE CONTRIBUTION ON THE PK , ESPECIALLY IN PLAYOFFS WHERE OILERS NEARLY 100% KILLED OFF ALL PENALTIES DURING 4 ROUNDS OF PLAYOFFS
CONS:
- DOESNT DRIVE HIS LINE WHEN PLAYING CENTRE, DOESNT PLAY BETWEEN THE DOTS
- ADMITS TO BE A PERIMETER PLAYER AND CONTINUES TO SHOW HE IS
- SOFY : DOESNT LIKE TO GET INJURED, AVOIDS HITS, DOESNT HIT ANYONE, AND BARELY BLOCKS SHOTS FOR HIS GOALIE, HENCE EXTREMELY POOR PERFORMANCES DURING THE ROUND 2 AND BEYOND IN THE PLAYOFFS AND HEALTHY SCRATCHED AGAINST DALLAS

Great trade for both teams. You got a great young offensive forward. We got a great young defensive forward that is badly needed.

Matt Savoie is young but he is little . Buffalo is deep with talented prospects. McLeod is exactly what Buffalo needs , a defensive center with speed.Good trade.

Savoie way overrated.Small forward Gets knocked off the puck easily. Turnover machine awful defensively. Watched him play for team Canada and in the memorial cup and wasn’t impressed at all and I was really excited to watch him.

Funny you hate McLeod for being soft. Savoie even softer. Blaming all those goals on him when Oilers defense throwing the puck away and not tying up forwards in front of the net.

I wasnt trying to blame everything on 71, just showcasing where he screwed up in costly scenarios. Anyways, Dman or forward , you gotta step up and cover for your mates when they screw up rather than chickening out of a shot block or hit - u cant win if you u dun sacrifice , could learn a thing or two from cats in this dept.

Don't get attached to Savoie. With a first already dealt, this is ammo for trade deadline while clearing cap space.

@@fthockey id like to see it. But I am concerned about the weight loss diet the team has had this summer. Foegle, Desharnais and McLeod are all big guys, tough on opponents. Arvidsson is still tenacious, but Skinner and Savoie aren't going to bring any physical elements. That's why I'd be more concerned if they move Kane...they are short on players of his archetype.

I will say you guys got a good one in Savoie, no doubt about that..but rumor I heard is you guys wanted Kulich and thankfully we did not bend there whatsoever and gave up Savoie instead..so far Savoie is made of glass it appears..but you Oiler fans keep on about the physical play of McLeod..why???..reality check, we did not get him for that 🙄..we got McLeod for his speed, defensive play and faceoff ability..the Sabres addressed their physical play already adding 591 hits with our new 4th line alone and that not counting the hits Gilbert and Zucker bring also ..as for physical play? it was all the Oilers who were guilty in that Finals for not being physical enough against a far more physical Florida squad..the Panthers outhit you 6 out of 7 games and they outhit you 296 to 181..and thats the fault of McLeod and not the entire team itself?? ..the Sabres as I write this?? still have the deepest center prospect pool in the NHL by far..but if you want to blame McLeod on not winning the cup? then I thank him for that cause I was 100% cheering for Florida lol

Thx for your long detailed reply ! Perhaps if you have been watching this player (#71) since he stepped foot in the big club and thought that he would progress rather than regress then you might understand my disappointment in this player. He is very fast, not bad defensively when he is moving around as a fast disturber - BUT - he does definitely will not play HARD. Not just blaming the loss of the cup against FLA all on 1 guy here - the whole team had issues in the last round (even especially Draisaitl) - but I was pin pointing some of the stuff that made him the odd man out. When everyone knows whats on the line, and are suppose to up his game - clearly 71 did not and showed he rather not sacrifice his body to help his team win. You guys got a good player for the regular season - but not one that can be counted on for the playoffs. Best of luck to the Sabres next season anyways! We have gone thru the same dark days many years ago as well!
