You realize how much he actually cares about the kid. Then you notice that despite being the goblin king he's almost entirely human. Meaning that he was taken in by the previous goblin king and raised by him. Meaning that once upon a time he was like toby, but no one came to get him.

I think it was the lack of a cohesive plot. I mean the concept is fantastic, but it needed something more. For instance some kind of plot device to better connect play that the main character was rehearsing for with her final showdown with the goblin King. Also why is the goblin King so human looking, and lastly A better explanation as to how a story she was telling to her little Brother just off the top of her head winds up becoming true. And I’m all for magical surrealism but it needs to be properly executed so that you’re not obsessing about the details when you’re watching the story unfold.

She recently came out to visit me and over a cup of coffee we chatted a bit and I said "you remind me of the Babe" and she immediately remembered every single word.

"instead of puppetry we're trying to go toward a sense of realism - toward a reality of creatures that are actually alive and we're mixing up puppetry and all kinds of other techniques. It's into the same bag as E.T. and Yoda, wherein you're trying to create something that people will actually believe, but it's not so much a symbol of the thing but you're trying to do the thing itself." I don't know how intentional it was but I love how one can infer a pretty solid backstory for Jareth from scenes like this. Not only is he out of place physically among the goblins, but also as a person. There he is, sitting on his throne, waiting for time to pass while being surrounded by idiots. He is clearly not from here, obviously stuck. Might as well improvise a number and order the minions to enjoy it. I love this film.

Blessed be David, Jim and Terry. They really made a timeless classic with this one

David Bowie did this movie for FUN! This was a vacation for him.

No, only in the music album.
I got to see this at 8 years old in '86,changed my life forever. Not only did I get to see Bowie(this weirdo dude my mom adored)but also my first real crush...Jennifer Connely.
Mom and dad used to dance to this song while holding me when I was the same size as Toby, tossing me between them during the "Jump magic Jump" parts. Favorite childhood memory

Gonna do the exact same thing with my kids, while cosplaying this handsome man
The dancing goblin w/the red fabric on his hips behind Jareth's left shoulder at 1:01 will never stop being funny to me.
All of my grand kids love this movie why not can't go wrong with Bowie :)
My God I remember singing and dancing to this or at least trying to as I was 3 at the time this came out lol
the best film of my childhood

When I watched this as a child I honestly thought that he was throwing Toby up in the air instead of a doll
I love the architecture of the Labyrinth, and how they painted the sky greyer and greyer as they approached the castle. Definitely a surreal experience when I saw this as a kid. To this day, I still dream of places that look very similar to Jareth's Labyrinth when I go to sleep.

He was also smart, an avid reader who went thru a book a day (look up his fav 100 books) and cared about equality and representation, in music anyway (look up his MTV interview).
This will always be one of my favorite movies
*when you wanna figure out the lyrics and turn on captions but it just says [music]*
Luckily I was named after David Bowie’s character in this movie. And I loved cosplaying his character.

Most favorite song with David Bowie❤
I'm a Mom (57 years old) who along with two exceptional friends my kids have always called their "Wicked Step-Aunts", that raised her daughter (40 years old) and son (37 years old) to love and appreciate this movie as much as we still do. My kids and I watched this movie for thie first time together with the "Wicked Step-Aunts" a very, very long time ago. ❤ My daughter has raised our soon to be 10 year old granddaughter to love this movie as well. It's our Family Tradition. ❤ ~ APRIL LIPKE
この映画は素晴らしすぎます!ちょーファンタジーだしダークだし、とにかくデビッド・ボウイがイケメンすぎます!
