Evidently she paid attention during all her years as an actress. From the tenor of the comments being made about her film, she has produced something extraordinary... and we should all be grateful for that. Congratulations, Ms. Gyllenhaal, and I wish you continued success in your newfound career as a director.

I'm 51 and childless, not out of a deliberate choice, it's just that is how it worked out for me because of various conditions all my husbands had. But when I tell people it's just as well, I still get shock, that somehow it is unnatural. In my case, I was ambivalent because my mother was very unstable and violent at times. So I was uncertain how good a mother I would be. Also, my mother conditioned me to take care of her, so I didn't WANT the responsibility of caring for a child. I did end up as a caregiver, but usually I went home at the end of the day. Even so, I think caregiving helped satisfy my maternal instinct.

I have not had children ---although kids want to be around me! -- and I do not regret that. I never felt that I was not enough as a woman unless I had a child! That is a society construct and I prefer to think for myself and certainly know myself better than anyone --- or society knows me. There are so many children that need love and attention and I can be actively involved that way. There are plenty of awful parents out there....I can be a support for their children ....and very happy to lend that support ✨🎄✨❤️✨🎄✨❤️

I believe we should not be surprised at the “need” for a film like this. We’ve given up on the extended family, and all of its shared blessings for the “what’s in it for me culture” the every tiger to his/he own hill mentality. It will crash and burn someday….and then we will get back to being authentic once again…….

I'm so glad to know Maggie, apart from being a talented actrees, can direct her own movies, directing movies, especially on Netflix is big challenge, and Maggie knows it better than anyone. As far as I'm concerned, I actually enjoyed The Lost Daughter, from Olivia Colman to Dakota Johnson, they both were the movie's key, and also while seeing the film, it reminded me a bit of Parallel Mothers, which is a Pedro Almodovar's picture because, what connects to these movie is "worrying about children". So congratulations Maggie, your brother "Jake" must be proud of you, keep going.
