“The purpose of the event is to just do a couple of things: Originally, it was for Flag Day. Flag Day was yesterday. It's also to celebrate President Trump's birthday, which was also yesterday. And it's to generate enthusiasm for the reelection of President Trump, who happens to be in town today. That's a coincidence. We didn't really plan this event knowing he’d be in town. And there's some feeling that some conservatives don't like to be out by themselves, because of doxxing and other crazy things that happen. So, when you have power in numbers, 1,000 boats or 100 boats show up, it's easier to show your enthusiasm for a particular candidate.

STORYLINE:
Supporters of former President Donald Trump celebrated the Republican presidential candidate’s birthday and his proximity during a Detroit-area boat parade.
The Michigan Conservative Coalition organized the MAGA Boat Parade that started Saturday in suburban St. Clair Shores, Michigan, and traveled along Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River to the heart of Detroit.
“The purpose of the event is to just do a couple of things: Originally, it was for Flag Day. Flag Day was yesterday. It's also to celebrate President Trump's birthday, which was also yesterday,” said Bill Rauwerdink, who helped to organize the event. “And it's to generate enthusiasm for the reelection of President Trump, who happens to be in town today. That's a coincidence. We didn't really plan this event knowing he’d be in town.”
Trump hosted a roundtable discussion at a church in Detroit on Saturday. Later, he was to deliver the keynote address at the Turning Point Action convention downtown.
