I wrote Therapist with Caroline Ailin and David Pramik a couple of months ago now. I feel like a lot of the time, a ‘good’ girlfriend is measured in how many chances they give, and how much they can endure mentally before their partner decides to treat them right. That is not it! We are not here to teach men how to behave, we are not their mothers, or their therapists, and we shouldn’t have to take on that pressure! Especially when we received nothing in return. In this particular song, it was about a situation where I really wanted to make it work but realised that this person did not need a relationship, and that I couldn’t give him what he needed no matter how hard I tried.

I had this friend who was very suicidal and would use that to make me feel bad. She would cut herself in front of me and laugh and I’ve tried my best to help her but she only used me and never helped me in return. That does not make me a bad friend. This is my anthem. First boy I really loved, we lasted three years. He used to lie, again and again. He would shout and raise his voice, not caring who could hear him. He made me cry in front of my mom, he would call me names and say I'm completely crazy. And then, claimed he loved me. I wish I could turn back time and convince my old self to dump his ass, because contrary to what he used to say, I can do much better than him.

Bro this sounds like my ex. He had all these issues that he thought he could fix with a girlfriend. He was so clingy and all he talked about was how sad he was. I gave him all the help/advice I could, but he never helped me in return. He'd just say 'oh' or 'that sucks'. I left him soon after I realized what he was using me for. (Oh, and just two days ago he messaged me saying he missed me and how depressed he's been since we've broken up. Just go get professional help already damn.)

Me too. He had severe childhood trauma and PTSD, and he tried for a while to change but I think it was exhausting for the both of us. And then it became toxic. He threatened to kill himself if I left. He didn’t do it, but he died tragically a few days after :/ Despite all of this, I still love him, and I blame myself a lot because I could have helped him.
