Have you seen Marine's cover of Otona Blue? I think it's hilarious because she's considered the grandma of Hololive being 30 years old. She does the whole song in reverse. Also being unironically sexy.

He needs to learn to show more Live Videos. Binged watched this ladies several months ago and they are awesome live!! Their great choreography is shown.

Agreed. For years I dismissed Atarashii Gakko as yet another manufactured idol group targeting preteen girls. Then after reading that Rosalia was a big fan checked out some their concert performances and… ok, now I get it.

atarashii gakko is stage performer. along side official MV, please recommend people to watch their live performance fancam. they are beasts on stage..

I love their song 'Freaks', which was one of their very early hits. Great fun and talented. You can see them headbanging to Nemophila on Nemophila's appearance on a music show in Japan.

Not so early, the group has existed since 2015 and Freaks is from 2021, it was the year they joined 88Rising and took the opportunity to partner with Warren Hue, who is an Indonesian rapper

I love the fancams of Suzuka climbing into the crowd during Otona Blue. She has no fear and so much charisma.

WOW! AG - one of my favorites. Nice that he liked it and had good reasons why. You can always debate whether the original video or the ONE TAKE is better. Who knows? I love them both. No Volvo in ONE TAKE, and being from the land where Volvo originated might bias me. The first time I saw them was the ONE TAKE video though, so I am imprinted on that one though :)

The English subtitles for the First Take are so sanitized as to eviscerate the deeper humor and commentary. Even some of the choreography has been cleaned up, like the first line "I understand what you want, don't I" Suzuka usually makes a rude gesture towards her crotch. I understand why this is their most popular song in Japan, the lyrics are a string of the most delightfully filthy euphemisms, but I don't know why it is so popular in the U.S.

Quirky & Fun

I was going to mention the candy cigarettes, but Rocko caught it. I might have missed it also, except my Japanese friend sent me a bag of assorted Japanese candies a couple years ago, and it included that same that same box of candy cigarettes.

You can't always understand the humor and satire in many of Atarashii Gakko's songs by simply turning on the subtitles. Atarashii Gakko are grown women pretending to be middle school students often to make cutting commentary on Japanese society. If you read the translation for Otona Blue you would probably interpret the song as a simple coming of age story. It is a coming of age story, but coming of age in a society where the age of consent is 13, where one of the most popular men's magazines is essentially playboy with models in school uniforms, where middle age men on the train don't hesitate to open manga filled with graphic depictions of schoolgirls being molested, where Joshi Kousei cafes and Papakatsu Apps are accepted vehicles for child prostitution. Otona Blue is about schoolgirls who understand the power they hold over men in such a society. So it's not about schoolgirls frustrated because they don't know how to act mature, it's about schoolgirls who know how to act more childish to seduce "soft" Japanese men.

Gotta love a group that uses a Volvo in the music video.

I prefer the original video: They have more space on the stage and can better present their choreography. Also the "First Take" version imo is better. But once more, just my personal taste.

Its like you had four girls in a Japanese idol band....but you went and took their older sisters, you know, the smart asses, and formed a group making fun of the younger group.

Joel buddy, why do you keep showing the official MV. Is it all about the Volvo? Really, if this video was my first exposure to Atarashii Gakko! I may have never become a fan. Even the first take video tops this, because half of what they are is their personality. At least this fellow picked up on some of the details. I still want to know what the meaning of the squished strawberries in milk is.

Way to go. Showing a stage manager a video instead of a live performance……

Showing a man of this caliber of live performance experience a music video is doing a disservice. He still did a GREAT reaction and picked up on a lot of shit but seeing him react to their lives would be phenomenal
