In this tour, she paid homage to 2 of her late friends and contemporary pop music icons: Prince near the end of the Like A Prayer number, and MJ in this silhouette version song & dance-which I think is her vision of the dream collaboration with MJ that she imagined-had MJ lived longer. Unlike MJ, Prince worked with her in the Like A Prayer album-co/wrote Love Song, provided guitar riffs on the opening of Like A Prayer, and the rock jam background on Act Of Contrition. Madonna has been gracious in honoring and acknowledging other artists she admired that had influenced her like those visual artists/friends (Keith Haring, Martin Burgoyne, etc.) whose pictures appeared in the big screens during the Live to Tell number tribute to AIDS victims; Hollywood Golden Age era icons she called out during Vogue (Marilyn Monroe, Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Brando, Jimmy Dean, etc.), and throughout her career she has worked with other artists and mentored/influenced younger artists-one reason why she’s had such impact on pop music and culture.
