Queen of the video narrative. She’s engaging in risky behavior and her guardian angel is trying to protect her. She resists and is finally killed by an acquaintance. This video was like a mini-movie and sadly overshadowed by a lot of the controversy surrounding her Sex book at the time.

I'm always astonished how younger generations have no clue of what's going on on Madonna's videos, like "Papa Don't Preach" and "Bad Girl". I wonder what state of mind they're in.

They're not in touch with reality and seem to take everything literally - The problem must be the easy access to tripe on the internet that they assume is fact. Sometimes it's so obvious like 'Papa Don't Preach' yet they think it's about a bloke and not the real issue of teenage pregnancy and the catholic church.... they can't think deeply but always thinking in a shallow mindset cause there in a hurry to update social media lol. I know it's harsh and due to the current circumstance of their life style they move from one thought toxic bubble to another without a true deep thought on any subject - it's like watching a puppy chasing it's tail - going round and round in circles not realizing they are chasing their own tail or shadow - sad but true - I remember when I needed to find information I had to go to a library and study books looking for information took hours and days maybe weeks but you end up with fact not blubbering bubbles of thought fiction that some pimple faced teen jotted on the internet and all the younglings think it's fact.

It’s crazy! I mean it’s like a movie…. Don’t see why it’s confusing. I got this at 18 years old. Maybe because there are no actual music videos especially like they used to be.

Christopher Walken portrays a guardian angel type character, finally bestowing the "kiss of death" before she is murdered. Very stylish video by David Fincher.

The video is about a promiscuous woman. There's a murderer on the loose. Madonna picks him up and he kills her. Christopher Walkin plays the angel of death/guardian angel who is there to take her soul, which he does when they both float off together at the end. This video was directed by David Fincher, who is now a top director.

The kiss of death is what Walken gives her and why the cat hisses.

The song goes a lot deeper than just a bad girl that smokes, drinks and sleeps around, it’s about friends of hers that have died of AIDS. It’s about trying to bring an awareness to a situation that some people still don’t think is real, but it’s everywhere. It's about her fear of dying, The song and video is loosely based on the 1970s movie "Looking for Mr.Goodbar". She ends up taking the stalking man that kisses her before death to her apartment, taking cocaine with him and sleeping with him. He leaves in a hurry and gives her a Quaalude pill to counteract the cocaine. This causes her to oversleep and she arrives very late for work the next day, angering her employer. The guy then disappears (he left Madonna that note 'thank you for the night whomever you are) for a long while, and Madonna initially misses him. Through her job, Madonna also meets and dates another man. Her parents approve of the responsible Man, seeing him as a potential husband for her. However, they do not have sex because he wants a traditional courtship and a monogamous relationship. Madonna sees this as stifling her freedom. Although he initially seems nice, over time he appears to become controlling and also disrespectful of Madonna. Moreover, he shows signs of being just as perverted and selfish as her previous dug taking lover. Madonna begins to go out to more marginal places and has sex with complete strangers, often with older men. Her first lover (the drug taker that left the note on her bed) eventually returns and acts as if nothing had happened. He barges in on Madonna while she is with another man and chases him away. He becomes controlling and abusive, and Madonna also discovers that he is a street hustler. She breaks up with him but he stalks and harasses her, both at home and at her workplace (thats the famous actor that kissed her before death Christopher Walken). After imagining what could happen if he were to turn her in to the police as revenge, Madonna gathers up all of the drugs in her apartment and flushes them down the toilet. With the New Year approaching, Madonna resolves to turn over a new leaf and take control of her life. On New Year's Eve, Madonna meets a man in a bar, and cajoles him into helping her avoid Christopher Walken. that man she met at the bar has been living with his gay lover but lies to Madonna, telling her that he has a pregnant wife in Florida. When they are in bed together at her apartment, he finds himself unable to achieve an erection. He then sniffs a "popper". Madonna tells him that it is okay if they don't have sex but he misinterprets this as questioning his sexuality. In a rage, he attacks her, rapes her, and then stabs her repeatedly, killing her. That's so intriguing and the video now makes sense - Thanks for sharing - I did not think it was such a simple song that most people thought it to be about herself "A bad girl that smokes too much and is promiscuous" it can't be about Madonna because we know she isn't that way inclined and no song of hers is so simple - I knew there was something deeper and you just explained it perfectly - cheers

@@Al-Alz NOTHING about Madonna is simple and no video or song she produces is straight forward but rather and always an allusion - just like poetry Madonna's songs and accompanying video's always alludes to something other than the lyrics because she will use phrases or words (and visual videos or images) with multiple meaning and a hidden factor - so if you hear the song you may come up with a conclusion that is wrong until you see the video and realize it's a different story all together - Madonna is the master of allusion. Never conclude her songs by her words only - I learned that in 1984 when I fell in love with her.

You know, 'Looking For Me Goodbar' is my favorite movie of all time and this video always reminded me of it. Glad to know I'm not alone in my thinking.

The first time I did watch 'Looking for Mr Goodbar' I became instantly hooked and transfixed by the tangled web a young beautiful lady ends up weaving for herself. Raised in a strict Catholic family, she teaches deaf children during the day and cruises singles bars and discos at night. It was my first time viewing such a vixen type of a character that loved rough sex with random suitors, ignoring the advances of well-meaning but nerdy men. Instead, She pursues the likes of men, whose threatening lifestyle and swagger seem to excite her. I was only a 10yo boy (still finding myself and not accepting my truth - that I am gay) when I first watched the movie I could relate to the same zealous religious family background as her and I was transfixed by that lifestyle, so much that I wanted to experience what it's like living on a knife-edge. So the moment I saw Madonna's video I instantly connected the dots and it made so much sense as she too had the same Catholic upbringing - I later saw an interview where Madonna mentioned her inspiration for the song and video was this fantastic movie. Diane Keaton and Richard Gere staring in the movie - you can't go wrong with such talent.

I`m Madonna fan since 36 years, soI`m an old man now. Haha! But it´s great that younger people out there consider Madonna again. I remember when the "Bad Girl"-musicvideo had heavy rotation on MTV in February 1993. The man watching her is a guardianangel. Before she got killed he gave her the kiss of death and at the end, she and her angel go up to heaven.

Oh my! I was hoping Tyler was going to piece it together, but nope! In short, Christopher Walken is the guardian Angel, trying to warn her that her time is up if she continues down the path she's going, hooking up with strange men. Meanwhile, there is a killer on the loose, (the newspaper headline was in the video for a reason) and Madonna ends up hooking up with the killer, only to be killed. The pause at the end, where the killer sprays his mouth and kiss her is pretty much the "kiss of death". In the end, she and her guardian angel ascend above her body.

It's a sublime music video like this that makes me hate seeing other pop acts being mentioned in the same breath as Madonna, they are not even worthy to clean her boots. Next, please do "Rain". Cristopher Walken is a famous actor and participated into some music vídeos. Madonna is a "BAD GIRL" with "bad habits". Even though she is stable in work and also wealthy...her life IS completely a mess: drinks, smoke and lots of partners. She can change right away from man to man. Thats when she sings "IM NOT HAPPY WHEN I ACT THIS WAY..." And her bad habits lead to death. I think that THE ACTOR can be like her "GUARDIAN ANGEL" or maybe even the "DEATH ANGEL"...

My take on it is, The guy following her is her former lover, i don't know if he died or if they just broke up. He is not part of her life anymore, she misses him. She lives this life she sings about being unhappy, smoking too much, drinking and sleeping with random strangers to get over her heartbreak and not feeling as lonely. One night she takes this stranger from the bar home, he looks at her expensive paintings in her apartment, strangles and kills her, that's why we see her dead body being escorted out of the building in the opening of the video and then they reverse the time to what went on beforehand. In the end you see her reunited with her lover/ guardian angel, she's dead but also finally free. Way too sophisticated for todays mainstream. Love Madonna's artistry.

Madonna really put director David Fincher on the map, this being the 3rd or 4th video he directed her in. You can sense hints or vibes in this video of his forthcoming hit film "Seven". Madonna loves film and it shows in her music videos. This particular one paying homage to two acclaimed films from the 1970's "Klute" and "Looking For Mr. Goodbar".

No. He's the angel of death. He gives her the kiss of death. But he suffers for having to take her away, that's why he cries when the time comes. And she knows the moment is closer, she senses her death around her and she knows that last man will be her killer. But she's grateful because she wants to die.

Actually if you look into it, Walken is her "guardian angel" who's trying to give her signs that she either doesn't see or chooses to ignore. He does give her the "kiss of death" but he was written as her guardian angel.

the guy is her guardian angel who struggles to keep her away from trouble but she's always having one night stands with unknown and potentially dangerous guy, on this day the angel got distracted and... well...

"Justify My Love"

This excellent video was based upon the proto-slasher horror film "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" where a serial killer is stalking the single woman of New York. Being a Madonna video this doesn't stick to the plot exactly the focus is on a woman who has lost somebody she loved, without really seeing that he is still there. He does intervene in her life, but in subtle ways eg blowing out the lighter in the café, but she is focused upon blocking out her grief with sexual encounters that don't satisfy her or make her feel wanted ("Thank You Whoever You Are.") The cat representing feminine characteristics has been neglected by Madonna due to her one night stand and surprises her then requires feeding, and Madonna herself licks cat food from her fingers as a reinforcement of the neglect she has shown herself since her lovers death. The cat returns in the final scenes before the murder, where it seems to try to warn her of what is coming her way. The serial killer plotline is introduced in the final scene in the bar where her "dearly departed" is reading the newspaper with the "Bloody Rampage" headline on. Finally reunited by death, the couple share a cigarillo, almost post sexually and ascend to heaven.

When she goes off with the killer she takes a different direction then she was meant to (she was supposed to go with the other guy) and that's why he was frantic. When he finally shows up to give her a kiss of death, we can see she smiles because she knows her pain will end and that's why she just lets it happen. She's seen with him because now she's an angel and he's escorting to heaven Cata can often see spirits and the supernatural and sense evil too. Christopher Walken at this time was popular for the role as a fallen angel in the Prophecy films.

He died, she couldn’t get through his death, so she became this person who’s sleeping with other people, drinks a lot and smokes a lot and she wasn’t happy about the person she’s become and in her loneliness she was always thinking about him. So, the last guy was the guy who murdered her, but before that his lover appeared to her for the living last kiss before disappearing and maybe somehow she thought she will reunite with him but then after she died they reunited in their afterlife and lived happily ever after. The End! I love this music video of Madonna, very classy, classic and meaningful. 😊

She couldn't move on so she went into this erratic behaviour of sleeping around, smoking and drinking too much. She then meets this guy who ends up being the city's killer on the loose and he kills her.

"Angels of death" do not try to prevent someone from dying. I think he was just the soul of a dead man who was still stuck in the physical world, waiting for the woman he loved to join him in the after life.

Guardian angel sweets

Bad Girl is pretty straightforward. Christopher Walken in her guardian angel. she keeps f-ing all different kinds of guys and finally dies because she encounters a psycho. The kiss is him realizing he can't help her anymore. In the end, the both are dead (after the guy kills her) and they both go to "heaven" still smoking cigarettes. Bad to the core.

Bad Girl is a video of a career woman, who's lovely. The song even tells you, she knows her life is a mess. She works, has no one to come home to. She sleeps with strangers, she smokes too much, drinks till she passes out. She has no idea the angel of death is follwing her. If you notice news paper headline, there's a serial killer in the city killing woman. She follows him and takes her to her home. That's when the angel of death, kisses her. The kiss of death. And she sees him, and gladly accepts her fate. Death to her is a release of her bad girl ways. She is happy, and dies with a smile her on her. The End.

I don't see Christopher Walken's character as a "Guardian Angel". He seems more like a dead person still lingering around in the material world, perhaps because he did not want to cross the "other world" without the woman he loved. In the meantime he tried to protect her as best he could, until finally she encounters death.
