    I saw the Girlie Show at Wembley Stadium in London on the 2nd night of the world tour. There were no spoilers in the newspaper until Monday morning. So we saw the show on Sunday night and had no idea what to expect. The live version of Rain with Donna and Nikki was/still is incredible. The harmonies of the 3 voices was something I had never heard at an M show before. You must watch and react to the live version of Rain from 1993. ❤❤🎉🎉

    Public perception is a funny thing. When Erotica was released as the first single there was so much backlash. It really killed the sales of this album. I feel if Rain had been the first release, she could have gotten about 2 million more albums sold.

  • @Marc-zi5cq

    @Marc-zi5cq

    7 ай бұрын

    Oh yeah definitely. She was coming superstrong being probably at an all time high in terms of sales and popularity in 1990/1991 and 1992 gave her another #1 with This Used To Be My Playground without any performances and big promotion by Madonna. The Erotica video really just wasnt what people expected and the whole backlash happened but it could have been easily avoided if they put Rain, Deeper and Deeper and Bad Girl as the first three singles and maybe save Erotica til last so the album could have done its sales and the main focus was on other singles. On the other hand, it made Erotica all the more iconic and its so Madonna to go with the most provocative song and video first. ;)

    Yes, this gem also escaped me the first time it came out-but until a retrospective recently, just like you, it’s now one of my fave ballads. Madonna is a deeply poetic lyricist and a true romantic at heart, and she emoted the sentiment of this song so beautifully. And those eyes, they’re windows into a great artistic spirit that animates her persona. Great art transcends time-this video is 30 years old-but the elegant production makes it feel like new. This is the beginning of her affinity with Japanese culture-she’d be producing more spectacular videos in the coming years after this era featuring Japanese influence on her artistry such as in Nothing Really Matters, Paradise Not For Me, others. For the live version, you’ll cover it in her Girlie Show tour. ❤your captivating admiration of her artistry.

    I remember when Madonna was promoting the Erotica album and gave and interview on BBC radio 1, she played a selection of songs and spoke about them. It was the first time I’d heard Rain and I absolutely fell in love. She explained that it was based on Wuthering Heights and the love story between Cathy & Heathcliff. I was thrilled as I was studying the book at the time and also happened to be a massive Kate Bush fan. In the video when she’s wearing the white dress it’s her homage/reference to Cathy and Kate Bush

    This video had a special technology (back in the day) for treating the appearance of blue color, that's why it's so special. I never realized that this video was trying to highlight a vulnerable side of Madonna, but it makes sense in hindsight. A very interesting point from Emily's analysis is that rain is always treated as something negative or depressive, but it is true that in this song it is perceived as love and life. Very good analysis as always, girls.

I think what makes me love it even more is the combo with the live version from the girlie show that you will get to see. Great reaction as always from you two ladies! The inspiration for the song was Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights after Madonna read and fell in love with the novel's characters. As a side note, Ryuichi Sakamoto, who was a famous Japanese musician/ composer/actor, and who unfortunately passed away this year, played the director in this video. Madonna looks so beautiful in this video and this new haircut is the Segway to the Girlie Show Tour hair aesthetic. Looking forward to your reaction to that. Keep up the great work❤

    Rain is definitely a fan favourite. Madonna last sang it live in 1993. It appeared as a video interlude in 2008 during the sticky & sweet tour, and finally made a comeback as a live track in 2023 in the Celebration Tour. The theme “water” appeared a few times in her work, such as in rescue me and wash all over me. This was one of the easiest and quickest tracks to record and finish while producing Erotica and was chosen as a single very early. Now the funny part is: you two are wearing striped sweaters that pretty much look like the one Madonna wore for… wait for it… the photo shoot for the Rain single cover! 😂 I don’t know if it was a coincidence, so if it was, just Google Madonna herb Ritts 1993 and you’ll see what I’m talking about 😅

    In case you didn’t know, the video was shot in black and white but it was coloured in post production. That is why those hues are unbelievable. Wonderful song and video I should say.

    The song Rain is reported to be inspired by Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, which also inspired our very own Kate Bush and gave her, her first Number One single in the UK. When it comes to my favourite female singers, it's the big M, Kate Bush, Bjork and if I am feeling in need of a merry, innocent, skip down memory lane, PWL era Kylie Minogue. But Madonna and Kate are the ones I always return to.

    I’ve read this also, but why would they color the b roll footage? I guess maybe because they didn’t know what parts they would use originally? Yall gotta start looking at the Madonna b roll footage out there.

    Hi ladies. So glad you like this video, it is stunning and it still looks so modern. As you love this version try Dubtronics wash away extended remix of rain, it is a full proper video, the talking section is split so you can here both parts of her conversation. It is the best remix of one of her songs. I know that most fans haven't seen the remixed video version. It is a must see Thank you again for a great reaction.

    My name is Anderson, I live in Brazil in the city of Rio de Janeiro and I love Madonna and the videos you publish about her. I would like to suggest four videos that could be done all in one video because they are ballads. They are: 1 - Madonna--Frozen (Ray of Light Promo Tour) kzread.info/dash/bejne/nXVlysGLgpezlLA.html 2 - Madonna - Little Star (live Oprah 1998) song made for her daughter Lola kzread.info/dash/bejne/f35_r5OTpdnUo5s.html 3 - MADONNA live What It Feels Like For A Girl (Brixton Academy 2000) kzread.info/dash/bejne/mY2r08SAZLS6hrQ.html 4 - Madonna - Lo Que Siente La Mujer (Drowned World Tour) Spanish version of the song What It Feels Like for a Girl kzread.info/dash/bejne/k6ygsNmcgsrHZ7Q.html

    @@OurAnxiousReactions. I can understand the sentiment. Madonna music videos, like this one, are so fascinating that most fans savor it “to the very last drop”. This Rain video, specially the shots near the ending has a mystical vibe to it-similar to her spectacular Bedtime Story, and Frozen. When you replay it you’ll discover more artistic details and nuances.

    There is a level poetics in the lyrics of the song. A refined aesthetic in the video. Madonna was simply too much for the average audience. I'm sorry to say but only the male and female homosexual population in the world (and intelligent heterosexual women) have had the courage and been able to follow and fully understand Madonna. In the meantime, average taste has definitely deteriorated, people are exposed to widespread mediocrity.
