The only one that could have arguably been worthy was God Control. Medellin was bizarre. The latin-lite track is breezy and soft which clashed with the music videos bizarre story of a woman "beaten and abused" running from her own wedding with an eye patch. The whole thing felt disjointed and random, which is a shame, the song is sweet. Dark Ballet is an awful song, easily her worst. The only thing more self indulgent than the lyrics is the music video. Over-the-top, campy in a bad way, this video is difficult to watch through to the end. And not because of its "graphic" content. Because its corny and lacks any subtlety or nuance. She is literally beating us over the head with the message. It felt like something that is trying to pose as art, but isn't really. It felt like a propaganda piece. Crave is my favorite track from the entire album, and its also my favorite video. She looks gorgeous, the story is so so sweet, and Swae Lee's vocals are perfect here. But do I think it deserves to be awarded the best music video of 2019. Sadly, no. Its just a pretty video to what is easily her best song on Madame X. God Control, for all its blatant messaging, is still a great video. Yes, Madonna comes off as some superior being overseeing the chaos, again a bit self righteous and self indulgent, but she looks amazing, the video is wholly entertaining, and it is such an important message. Do I think its the best video of the year? No. But I could understand it being nominated.

Every little detail in this video is related to Portugal: the ships at the beggining and in the end, our strong ocean, the house, all our heritage. Of course the women are Cape verdian... Still, a pity Madonna didn't put a single thing on the credits related to Portugal, and mainly because she lives there now !

The Majority of Madonna's new album is about others and enlightenment to what is happening to society and various problem aspects of political imbalance. She is using herself as a vessel to portray messages to everyone and everyone in the form of music. The symbolism in her videos is strong and inspiring. Only when you have exceeded all your limits can you make a project like Madame X that is not to please anyone but yourself, and this is the true meaning of the whole album. Madonna has done this work for herself and each of us is called to listen to it in silence and make it our own. Madonna has now passed the threshold of stardom and has crossed the threshold of the empyrean. She is no longer the woman, she is not the singer, she is not the performer, she is not the dancer, the entrepreneur ... now she is a legend!

Just as I moved and cried when I saw the video "God Control", the clip "Batuka" moved me emotionally in my soul and my ancestor's history. My great - grandfather was a Portuguese from the Algarve and came to Minas Gerais, Brazil, to be able to invest. He met my great-grandmother, who was the slave of a farm in a town in the interior of MG. He asked for his manumission and they went to live together. They had six children, and my great-grandfather left my great-grandmother, a black woman, a former slave, abandoned by her big-money husband in the early 1900s. She suffered a lot to raise her children, but she fulfilled her mission in this reincarnation. She played Batuque that her mother taught her. Seeing her clip, my Queen Madonna , I remembered this story of my ancestor and I cried a lot to see this Masterpiece of art that is this clip! Congratulations, Queen @madonna! Aaron Clark, before insulting others, it would behoove you to do some basic research. 'Batuka' was written by Madonna Ciccone, her son David Banda and Mirwais Ahmadzaï, and produced by Madonna and Mirwais. Madonna usually writes all or most lyrics, composes vocal melodies and, depending on the song, co-composes the instrumental. She wrote and produced over 300 songs (some of which are unreleased). As for the rest, it's a collaboration like all artists do.

The smiles, joy and physical strength these women displayed- they were like Wonder Women, invincible in their craft. From young to old- the passing of tradition. Write-off Bob Dylans landmark "Hurricane" song? Bruce Springsteens "Born in the USA". Madonna is, and always as been surrounded by peers who speak their own truths on politics, race, religion, and more. Even today new artists continue to raise the bar. Grimes "We appreciate Power", Hozier's emotional "Nina Cried Power", Donald Glover's "This is America", Moor Mother's "After Images"... not to mention the many other powerful women anthems that have come out in recent years.. Tracey Thorn's "Sister", Ariana Grande's "God is a woman, Miley Cyrus's "Mother/Daughter"... Madonna is an icon who has battled sexism and ageism her entire career. Outspoken, often considered radical, she paved her own way in an industry that was not kind to women in pop. But it is ridiculous how she claims to be unique in what she does. Its a slap in the face to the MANY amazing artists, both new and old, whose work is just as amazing as hers. My biggest problem with Madge in 2019 is her out of control narcissism and her stans (While I've been a die-hard fan since 1984 at the age of 8, I've never been the sort of fan to use her own image is my profile photo, tattoo her on my body, or love every single thing she does regardless of quality). Her Stans see nothing but royalty, a Goddess, who must never be questioned, whose entire catalog is apparently fashioned out of gold.
