Man, that guy on the sax can wail. They're all good, but he's incredible right here.

One on the great things about the Old Grey Whistle Test was that the programme didn't care who you were or how big a star you were it was the same for everyone. No miming, no fancy tricks from a mixing desk, no audience just get up and play and show us how good you are.

I remember watching this back in the day. I had a small black and white telly in my room and used to watch OGWT and the late night horror flicks on ITV. just as long as I didn't wake the old man up, then he would re-enact a horror flick in the house complete with real blood. 1979, I was 18. I liked Madness, despite riding a motorcycle and having long hair. I also remember watching Meatloaf Bat Out Of Hell, and sitting on the edge of my bed by the end, amazed that anything could be so theatrical. great times.

Pure class! The early Madness were streets ahead of all the other Ska bands. Reminds me of the cold, dark, violent streets of Wolverhampton in the late 70s early 80s where a musical 'tribe' would be lurking in the shadows around every street corner...

Amazing to think that Chas wasnt actually an official member of the band at this point. Dave Robinson made sure that was rectified pretty soon after this clip.

Saw the Specials 30th Anniversary gig in Brighton and they had to stop a few times because of aggro. Everyone was well into their 40s by then so God knows what it must have been like originally
