Not being able to create custom faces is 100% a frostbite limitation. Multiplayer shooters just pick similar looking faces/bodies out of a hat each time you spawn, cause everybody needs to have the same dimensions for balance reasons.

The Frostbite game engine, version 3.0, has been used to develop the Madden NFL games since Madden NFL 18. Prior to Madden NFL 18, the Madden NFL games used the "Ignite" game engine, starting with Madden NFL 25 (Madden NFL 13). The real issue lies in the fact that EA mandates ALL of its development studios to use Frostbite, and only Frostbite, even though Frostbite was built primarily for first-person shooters, i.e. the Battlefield series. Maybe EA Tiburon should go back to using the Ignite game engine.

@@jamiem2494 If it hasn't been mandated "for years now", then why do EA Tiburon, EA Vancouver, and EA Romania (the latter two being the developers of the FIFA and NHL series) continue to use it? It's already been four years since they started using it, and the game engine has VERY obvious limitations when it comes simulation sports. It's either this, or there is a substantial lack of time invested in making animation not clip with the environment and AI players. Also, I said what I said, knowing that Mass Effect: Legendary Edition was being developed using UE4, but the last Battlefield game and the most recent Need For Speed game use Frostbite 3 (which hasn't been updated since October 29, 2013).
