Melman is a Reticulated Giraffe, and the rest of the giraffes are Masai Giraffes. Reticulated Giraffes have bolder, solid orange spots, with less space in between, while Masai Giraffes have bigger, more brownish spots with less distinct shape and more space in between. Also this movie is set in the Serengeti, in Kenya and Tanzania, which is where I traveled to before to see the animals. Masai Giraffes live there, while Reticulated Giraffes live more north, in northern Kenya and Ethiopia. There are eight subspecies of giraffe, spread around different parts of Africa: Reticulated Masai Rothschild’s Kordofan Nubian West African Angolan South African Thornicroft’s The only other animal in the family Giraffidae is the Okapi. Growing up, I was obsessed with this movie. I love the poetry of Alex drifting to New York across the ocean in a small box, mirroring how he will end up on Madagascar as an adult.

This is one of those rare occasions where the sequel is better than the original - but only by a whisker.

2:48 You know the sad part is this is how Alex got his Claustrophobia. Because he was put in s box by poachers against his will as a cub and now he has developed trauma and a fear of them since then. 😢 Not to mention the fact that he had to be in one while floating on water from Africa to New York.

I liked that Zuba mimic the bit Alex did as a cub just before they lost each other, just adds more another wholesome level.

The Penguins are planetary level😂 Old lady Nana stood no chance but she will give a can of whoop ass to anybody else

Alex knew which one was the real Marty by knowing Marty still has the bite mark from where Alex bit him in the first movie.

"Attention, this is your captain speaking. I got good news and bad news. The good news is we'll be landing immediately. The bad news is we're *crash landing."*

This one is my favorite Madagascar movie because of Alex racing to save his and his father’s hides and the “Marty got marked by Alex” bit at the end.

The scene with the penguin pretending to be roadkill almost killed me laughing.

I like the second one best in terms of story but I love the third one for how zany and fun it is

Hi Mary!🙂I was thinking the same thing about Alec Baldwin's character. Believe it or not, there is a third film, "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" (2012). Great reactions to the second Madagascar film, Mary!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

However, zebras identify eachother through their stripes, with each individual zebra-stripes being as unique as our fingerprints. And if you look closer in the film, you'll notice subtle differences in their stripes as well.

I think these movies got better every time a new one came out! my fave to least fave is literally 3, 2, 1! The third is fantastic!

Zoological Organizations study and protect wildlife around the globe. Through research and funding study of wildlife in their natural spaces / parks. I wouldn’t write off zoos because of pop cultures fundamental misunderstanding of them. A true zoo is dedicated to wildlife research.
