Mack R Model / Leach 2-R: Scocozzo Carting

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Meet old man Scocozzo and his beautiful old 2-R. Built in 1980, paired perfectly with a Mack R Model. New York at its best. Thank you Mr. Scocozzo for the best 15 minutes of my life. Ditto to the crew, both Batman and 3rd dude whose name I didn't get. Props to Scott (Trashman242) for being my partner in debauchery for this trip. Look to both our channels for many more uploads like this to come. Filmed June 24, 2015.

    Nice footage of one place I'd not like to drive a truck around, we went to New York in 2004 and Manhattan is overwhelming. Massive respect to the people who work there. Keep up the videos

    Dave Howe It takes some serious skill to navigate Manhattan streets, and many of the other trucks running around are even tougher to handle than this one. 8 speed manual gearbox vs this truck's automatic and an even longer 31 yard body vs this truck's 25 yards. Yet the drivers take it all in stride.

    I don't know if there are any videos on KZread, but one gearbox worth looking at is the Eaton twin split, they were usually found in Erfs, Fodens etc in the UK and were a bastard to master but once you figured out that your left foot only went on the clutch to pull away or stop then you were on a winner, I was taught to listen to the engine and she'd let you know when the gears are needed but if you missed it you'd have to start all over again ha ha.

    How freaking cool was that!?! That old Mack with that beast packer blade all grimy and the chains for tipping! Plus that man was just a hardcore hard working New Yorker. Thank you for all of your work and dedication you put into filming these bad ass trucks! Could you possibly make a vid showing the upper tailgate structure of a Leach 2r or 2r2 Packmaster with all the hydraulics exposed in action. Have always been fascinated by the hydraulics and packer blade from that angle!

    Excellent work! As usual, the camera work was amazing. Mr Scocozzo fits the my description of a New York garbage man to a T. Found that pretty cool lol His truck, though it's not as shiny as some of the other ones, is probably one of the nicest I've seen. Just a random thought, had this been the old mafia times, I probably would have thought that huge bag at 2:50 was a body haha The chains on the packer were real cool. I really like that method. Lol he has a similar phone like mine. I need to get updated...Beautiful rig of his, really enjoyed watching this truck and well as driver. Awesome video!

    ***** Thanks Aaron! Good to hear everything is up to snuff, was exhausted and running on coffee the entire trip so crappy camera work on my part was a legitimate concern. Funny you mention body bags, many NY apartments have this sort of mini compactor which extrudes trash into 90-ish gallon plastic bags instead of a typical compactor receiver box. The end result is a soggy, heavy log many of the garbage crews call "body bags". Loved the packer chains, almost thought we wouldn't see that sort of collection n action since all the demolition trucks we saw so equipped didn't use them. Packer chains will handle up to a 2 yard can, just imagine one of those full of wet and heavy NYC garbage, and having to manually help it tip all the way into the hopper. New York garbage men likely have the most physically demanding jobs in the industry.

    Wow, the quality was absolutely amazing to watch in 4k (unsurprisingly). Love the whole classic vibe with the obviously classic truck and no gloves or anything and of course, Mr. Scocozoo. The whole thing just has such a classic NYC vibe. He seems like such a stereotypical old NYC garbo haha. Love how they did the dumpster, definitely love that style especially after watching Wingfield do it. Love the single lever control, especially seeing the other side in the hopper. So I take it Scocozzo is another commercial waste hauler rather than a C&D packer? Needless to say, another phenomenal video from you. Can't wait to see the other riches you and Scott brought back.

    Garbage Trucks AZ I'm very happy I made the jump to 4k. What convinced me was seeing how amazing the 4k downscaled to 1080p looked, blew my old camera out of the water. Built in neutral density is huge too. And the thing is YT absolutely mutilates the quality with its own processing, you should see the pre-upload version. Scocozzo is one of the coolest guys I've ever met, wish he was actually my uncle or something lol. Dumpster chains were a pleasant surprise, we came across a few demo waste 2R-IIs with them but none of the drivers made use of them, opting for just the winch. Having the control linkages inside the hopper is a massively inferior approach, I understand lots of lube is required to make sure everything works, not to mention the obvious susceptibility to damage from whatever's getting packed in the hopper. But it did make for a great shot. Yes, I would assume just garbage. This truck is probably the entire fleet, but I didn't think to ask. Glad you enjoyed, there's deffo some more good stuff to come.

    No stills. I stopped bothering with stills and began focusing just on video a while ago. However the switch to 4k lets me take more than adequate stills from the video. I understand 8x10 prints are feasible. Haven't tried yet but will play around with it this week. Do you have specific spots in the video you want? BTW any stories about driving delivery in Manhattan? Seeing the grille guards and battle scars on all the box trucks I imagine it's an exciting job to say the least.

    One awesome video George! These older Leach rear loaders are fun to watch, showing no mercy whatsoever, they're one of my favorites out there. Mr. Scocozzo seems like a really cool dude, classic New Yorker, and definitely keeps it old school! Great to see the Mack bulldog intact after all these years! Such a relic he owns, and it's good to see it still running healthy. Video quality was outstanding, loved the slow pan shot in the beginning. And the ultra HD quality too! How are video file sizes with each clip? I'd imagine they've be a bit larger than typical MOV or AVCHD files.

    Thanks Jaccob. The 2-R has no equal, though I suppose Loadmaster's 400 is close. Would expect nothing less from these old Macks, would love to run one myself someday but truck age restrictions are making that ever less feasible. Pride myself on the slow pans. ;) Overall capacity time-wise is comparable to my old Panasonic TM700, about 2 hrs 15 min, but that's with a 64GB memory card. The finished upload is just under 6GB.

    You and Scott must've been unsatisfied finding this out there, like it's just a 1980 model, see them all the time. CLASSIC!!! Mr Scocozzo sounds like a good guy, funny hearing some of the talking in the cab like 5:10 :D He did a good job slicing that pallet in half in the first packing clip, heaps of people would've gotten off after seeing that lol It was also cool seeing the old single packer lever actuating the two linkages on the inside of the tailgate - never thought about how it might've worked. You must've been ecstatic getting a ride through the streets; a bonus experience. No surprise there's a chain lift with this truck, well before the A-frame system was introduced I bet!

  • @georgewuzheer

    @georgewuzheer

    9 жыл бұрын

    MitchellM15 As Scott mentioned, it was refreshing to see the packer operated in a way that limited wear and tear on the machine. Much less stress on the structure when using the sweep blade to "slice" the pallet rather than crush it. Like I said, the best 15 minutes of my life lol. The thing about the A-frame is it only sees use with the 1/2 yard demolition cans, no regular garbage duty. In any case there are brand new trucks still using the chains. They're a great way to add dumpster handling capability to a packer without too much cost or added complexity. Come to think of it I couldn't give a starting date when the Lodal A-frame was adapted to the NYC demolition rear loaders, I guess there's some research to be done.

    It's still pretty mobbed up in Jersey and New York. There are more "legit" companies than there used to be. Days gone by, those trucks would've burned out by the mob. The mafia still has PLENTY of presence in waste and construction in those parts, though.
