This video was made for me. HAHAHA. I have always asked that question, of "what was the difference between the MR and MRU". I didn't know the difference until I watched this video and it made complete sense. Thank You, you just resolved a big question of mine

AS A Retired District Mechanic of DSNY...i worked on a lot of MR's ...we had 11 Ez Packs in my district sometimes as many as 14 as they were moved around as needed...Removing the ladder on the MRU was a bad idea..because operarors often got bags on top of the cab protector because of damaged containers with missing or broken lids....Mounting the pedals on the forward facing section of cab was a great idea...The Salt and debris from the operators boots...would cause corrosion on the pedal plungers and pivots...Causing them to stick ..and they were in a difficult location to work on....we got the MRUs as i was leaving so i cant speak of there Functionality...But the MR was a durable vehicle...

I'm looking to buy a 2008 Mack MR688S. Are they good mechanical trucks?

Obviously there are physical differences between the truck we can see, but I want to know what the mechanical differences of the two trucks are like how it runs and the exhaust.

Great video! It would have also been cool if you had showed a clip of the MR taking off and the MRU taking off so we could here the difference in sound of the E7 or AMI engine compared to the newer MP7 engine.

You should do one for the LE and LEU

MR has a way better steering wheel I love the classic 3 spoke

0:27 this is what city of Sherman used to have the same Mack MR Autoreach McNeilus which is the versions of it of the Recycle and Trash kinds. And differents sense with a Volvo WX Heil Python that use to be it back in the 90's. I got my first film with my old Panasonic video camera of taping of the Mack MR McNeilus Autoreach in 2008 of the first Recycle and then Trash trucks that are the same Mack MR with differents like Recycle is with the same like at 0:27 and trash same with a small arch thing under the rectangle Mack and then right before summer in 2008 I started to film the other different kinds of trash trucks of other Mack MRs until summer 2009 for 11 years ago.

Is a Windsheild guard safer then a ladder?

Ive always liked the MR cauz it was always more truck like, esp the sound of its E-Tech7 diesel! But if I were a garbageman, I would have to go with MRU cauz of the gages, like the parking brake is in front of the driver & not toward the right away from you! 1 thing you forgot to mention is that both trucks come standard with Mack's manual gearbox & are available with 9-10 optional versions. I hav seen the MR688S used in different apps such as oil delivery, cement trucks, etc.

i just ran an mru for the first time today. it was a horrible riding clumsy uncomfortable pos with 3000 miles. i’ll stick with our 320’s and 520’s

Sure did take a long time to get minimal creature comforts and modern controls for the operator

I so favor the MRU better then the MACK
