"How much oil pressure does it show?" That was the question asked me the first time I crawled out of my Cat loader and was running a Terex with a 6v53. I was complaining to the boss that it had no guts going up the pile. I said "about 30 psi" he said "wind her up to 60!" I did and after the deafining WHOOOO of that 2 lobed blower started sounding like a steam whistle we were MOVING! I have worked on hundreds of Diesels In construction, heavy trucks and on my farm. Detroit 2 cycles are my hands down favorites. I own a few, including a 6v53 NA. with the proper cam timing governor adjustments and injectors they will make big power AND torque! On road Detroits were severely nutted for emissions (ESPECIALLY in California!) even early on. Set up right the NA motors at least will pull down so low you can count the cylinders and not stall. I knew an old guy that worked for Detroit for years. He said "either you love them or you hate them. When a guy would come in and say he hated them, I would say RTFM, (read the "furnished" manual!)" I would see so many who didn't and thats usually where the no torque, leaks oil, (ALWAYS use a single weight oil approved for Detroit even if you have to order it. I dont care who says modern multigrade will work fine.) blackstacks, BS that was supposed to be "common knowledge " came from. Of course, the early 92 series had issues and the old crown style 600psi injectors were junk. He had a little book from Detroit he showed me that was full of factory dyno tests of every possible Detroit Diesel combination with every possible injector that would physically fit the motor and any possible cam timing and RPMs from the '40s to the '80s they were trying to push them to the limits to see what broke first for the Military and emergency fire pumps etc. to see what broke first then fixed it. An aluminum 6v53 can make close to 600hp in an emergency and 450 reliably from 318ci! I asked him to order me one of those manuals. He said "you can't buy them, and I'm not even supposed to have it!" If I needed to make one scream I called him and the little book came out! some foreign countries still make them. At least I saw an article around 2018 where 8v92 aluminum electronic injection motors at 850hp were being built to be used to repower some armor. Nothing else would do that as light and reliable. A Cummins engineer said once "no other engine will get you back home with more wrong with it than a Detroit!"

There is a factory turbo for those and the exhaust goes to a 4" single . Swap a two speed two ton rear axel and it'll gain more mph and a creeper low gear. With turbo you can DELETE the muffler too .

O-H-I-O Porter greetings🇺🇸 It’s nice to see & hear this truck roll! It seemed to shift gears nicely & I was a bit shocked by that. Has a pretty slow end to it when backing up & that can be handy! Love the truck! Hope you make it even better! What are your plans for it now? Great stuff! 🥰🤩✌️

Rear axle has cones, but not big enough to be a 29,000. What year is that thing? I thought they stopped making that 22,500 lbs axle with the cones (True Full Floating Axles) in the early 50's

It could be all original. Alison specifically built automatic transmissions for big trucks since the 1940s I believe. Detroit started building the 2 stroke in 1938, and the automatic in 1948. So it's very possible that is an original.

@@crushingvanessa3277 At the time, they were called GM Diesels, any truck, bus, boat, or use for stationary use could use them, or any other engine such as Cummins or Cat. I'm not certain, I think it's an Alison. They made automatic transmissions for big trucks for a lot of years starting in the 1950s. The military tried some in 2 and a half trucks.

@bertgrau3934 thank you. The Powermatuc has an odd retarder pedal to the left of the accelerator pedal that looked like another accelerator pedal. The retarder redirected the trans fluid so that the trans slowed the vehicle similar to engine braking.

To further clarify, the old school truckers said the best way to drive a GM 2-stroke was to slam your hand in the door so you would be good and pissed off. These 2 strokes aren't your typical diesel, they like to be run hard.
