Machining Solid THOR Hammer out of Heavy Dumbbells

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This Thor hammer is the most realistic hammer ever made out of steel on internet, i guess. Thanks for giving19 minutes out of your worthy time. Believe me you would not regret of watching such an amazing production. We used heavy weight Dumbbells to make such a powerful Thor hammer, this was already a challenge to make this Gigantic hammer out of plates.

Basic introduction of THOR hammer:
Mjölnir (from Old Norse Mjǫllnir) is the hammer of the thunder. Thor in Norse mythology, used both as a devastating weapon and as a divine instrument to provide blessings. The hammer is attested in numerous sources, including the 11th century runic Kvinneby amulet, the Poetic Edda, a collection of eddic poetry compiled in the 13th century, and the Prose Edda, a collection of prose and poetry compiled in the 13th century. The hammer was commonly worn as a pendant during the Viking Age in the Scandinavian cultural sphere, and Thor and his hammer occur depicted on a variety of objects from the archaeological record. Today the symbol appears in a wide variety of media and is again worn as a pendant by various groups, including adherents of modern Heathenry.
Thor hammer weight : ~22kg (48.45 lbs)
Total length : 43cm (17'')
Handle length : 1Ft (12'')
Handle thickness : 28mm for grip, 31mm for eye fittings
Width : 12cm (4.7'')
Head length : 21cm (8.26'')
Whole Process is given below:
Dumble Cutting:
We used a powerful gas cutter for cutting the plates of Dumbbells. Six plates were used just for making the middle part of the hammer. But total of 8 plates were used to make the head of hammer. All the plates were welded together and made a solid block.
Machining:
The parts were milled at ~45 degree by sides and the front face was almost 25 degree. We closed the hole of Dumbbells by welding a rod inside and drilled another hole vertically for handle. The hole was further milled in the square shape for perfect fittings.
Hammer Engravings:
Thor hammer always has a unique style in it which indicates the beauty and known as sign of power so we tried our best on the texture. All the engravings were done by Acid etching. This was the best way to get deep enough textures. We further used cold bluing method to get antique look inside the designs.
Upper Head Ring:
I used the Mild steel for machining this ring, this circular ring was not only for fashion but also the main fitting for handle which fits in the square hole of hammer head. Moreover i laser engraved the Art of Norse mythology on the top as per standard.
Handle Parts:
Handle consists of 3 parts
o. The screw part which is the spine of the whole hammer.
o. The grip part, which is made of aluminum metal and this was the most challenging part also. Almost 22 pieces were machined for making the perfect texture of the grip.
o. Third part is a pommel nut which has a texture on it accordingly the Norse Mjolnir and it fits on the spine screw of the handle. Further i made a leather strap which has the capacity to hold more than 22kgs and we can lift the hammer by this leather strap.

Beautiful work! This is clearly the movie version of the hammer. According to Norse mythology when Sindre and Brokk (the dwarven smiths) forged Mjölner, they made a big mistake and Mjölner's handle became too short, but still long enough to fit in Thor's hand.

@@matheussanthiago9685 Reasonable perhaps, but Thor being the God of thunder was anything but calm. Thor had a crazy temprament! If you pissed him off the world would know there's a thunderstorm. The hammer however was special. It was Thor's first tool ever not to break from smashing boulders, that's why its short handle wasn't an issue.
