I’ve worked in the melt industry; Have poured grey & ductile iron, plain carb & stainless and vacuüm poured aluminum turbocharger wheels.. Is boric acid your best flux? Do you have any type of pyrometer? Do you use any coating in your block mold? The aluminum keys you leave in your charge - improve fluidity? (Alot of our ladle adds contained Al for that reason) Have you found a “sweet spot “ temp for pouring? Fascinated with your set up and results.

I would agree, but I just realized that armour ain't gonna help unless it's light and bullet proof and you're going against scavengers or gangs with guns. Other than that, the armour would prolly show the dood down too much sadly enough. BUT he could use the metal to make blunt weapons. So I do agree with you on his slightly increased chances of survival lol.

Problem there .... you are assuming that, if there was an apocalypse, he would be able find/get enough propane to melt his casted metals ..... and then there would be the time factor for the melting, casting, forging, hammering, to make enough plate to assemble a suit of armor for himself ...... what about his pooches and then there is his wife (am assuming he is wedded) ..... the apocalypse would be over by the time he was finished. :0D
