Machining a new Hydraulic Cylinder Head for CAT 651 Tractor Scraper | Part 2
Ғылым және технология
This video is Part 2 of heavy duty machining a new hydraulic cylinder head for a CAT 651 Tractor Scraper apron cylinder. In this video we are machining the 2nd side of a 140mm chunk of steel plate. We are machining the internal seal grooves and boring internal diameter for the wiper seal before lots of interrupted cuts and chip breaking to turn down the outer diameter. Then roughing down the centre for a 45 degree nose taper before the finish passes. The cylinder head is then setup in a Vertex rotary indexing table on our milling machine to drill the 6 bolt holes. The part is completed with glass bead powder blasting for a satin finish.

I see 2 sets of skill here. The obvious is that there is a very skilled machinist working here. The less obvious is that the camera operator is really good. Smooth, gets nice shots, shows the process. Team work. Ver' naice!

Thank you mate we both appreciate it!
When a machine part looks like a piece of art , you know the man making it has mastered his craft
It's always a surprise when I find I missed a video. You are at the top of the list.
I never tire of your videos turning raw steel into precion parts and works of art.
It is a delight to watch a skilled craftsman such as yourself create. Thank you very much for sharing. It is genuinely appreciated.
just watched your video and i was so impressed with your skills.i am 65 and have seen some trades decline due to automation.great to see a young bloke keeping the trade alive and to such a high level.well done
Excellent work, lovely to see somebody that still has the manual skills... respect from a lifelong machinist and retired heavy plant guy

Hello from Washington State USA! I love your videos; I just wish there were more of them, and they were a bit longer. There's something magical about making something useful from a raw block of steel. I was a machinist back in the late 1960s through the 1980s, and I especially enjoy that you do all the work from lathe to mill to welding.

Hey mate thanks for watching from over there! Great feedback will definitely work on some longer videos. Most of the first videos were thrown together from footage we weren't planning for KZread 🤣 Appreciate you can relate from your own experience! Cheers 😎👍
Lovely work mate, the blasted piece in the final shots looked like a 3D rendered model! I really like watching rough chunks of metal turned into pieces of art like that...that would look good in any modern art gallery!

....Homeless seems impressed in the last few seconds! He knows craftsmanship when he sees it! Keep up the great work! Both machining and the videos....
Good afternoon This shot, in which the blank is shown first, and the finished product in the next, brought me to the saying of the famous sculptor. He said that there is nothing complicated in creating a sculpture - you take a stone and cut off everything unnecessary!
You are an effing legend! Your gals videoing and editing are top of the crop too! (Love the outtakes)
"A Smoko Lunch Truck" sounds real sweet. Fine finish on this part after the two kinds of blasting.
I agree two extremely talented people that make outstanding content for all of us to enjoy
Sunday morning this is my church awesome work👍
We do cylinder rebuilds at work but get any machining done offsite. Great to see how it’s all done. Look forward to more videos!

Enjoying this channel so much. Thank you all the way from Humboldt Co. California.
100 times better than the OEM part!
I'm a retired plant and timber man but I am fascinated by watching metal be crafted in objects of useful beauty. The skill involved, to me is mind blowing Great videos to watch in the in the sleepless parts of the night. keep up the good work
Beautiful quality workmanship all in our backyard. Well done CEE.
The finished product is a work of art!
Lol venga boys bumpin in the background. Gotta have the tunes
Hey Mr. CEE, I’ve been a machinist for 35 years. I like your style. Your technique is fundamentally sound. Just subscribed after watching you finish this part. One thing though, give Kennametal a try in the future. They have some seriously good stuff. You’ll be breaking the chips much better. Keep up the great work!

I started my vocational training 45 years ago: toolmaker. I'm just happy to see a pro at work. I'll get back to you with reviews etc. when I've seen everything from the oldest to the youngest video!
Sounds like a space war going on with that sound of the shavings breaking off.
Beautiful surface finish
Excellent work, I am always loving the videos, very good the tools and Kurt's ability to make them.
Art comes in many forms; the old masters paintings, Kashmir by Led Zeppelin, Rodin's sculptures, Ayrton Senna driving an F1 car, or Jonah Lomu running down the wing, ploughing defenders over. But THIS... man, if someone showed me a picture of the finished product and told me it was the platter of a $100,00 audiophile turntable, or the clutch for an F1 car, or a part of a space shuttle, I wouldn't be able to argue the point. That, my friends is sheer bloody art.!
from desert of Algeria... good spare part. The art of integrated work. You're like a doctor performing an operation ...👍😷
