is it? Sounds more like a pinch harmonic to me. Though i'm not really a machine head fan, so i only go by ear (and that might turn out to suck :p )

Yeah, you probably right. i don't claim to be an expert on this :) My ear just told me it hat the squeal of a pinch more than that of a natural.

This is why I'm subbed to you guys. Clearly, the subject matter of the lyrics is controversial and you (and many of your subs) very well may disagree with said subject matter or point, yet you guys went above and beyond to discuss this, then judge the lyrical quality and musicality rather than ignoring the artist or song for those reasons. Truly, kudos guys. I keep coming back to see you listen to some of my favorite groups and songs as well as discover new stuff.

i'd like to add something to what he said: i don't know if you guys are musicians yourselves, but you both seem to really listen to music like a musician would. there's so many details that a lot of people don't even acknowledge but you often point out these exact things, and most importantly, you always stay very objective and whether you like a song or not, you always explain your view in an understandable way. keep up the good work guys!

Ryan Thomas right, he thinks it's ignorant and offensive... but still appreciated the song. That's as open minded and free thinking as you can get. My opinion is if someone completely disagrees with everything about the lyrical content of a song, but can still appreciate it, they shouldn't be called names or ridiculed. Especially not on this channel. He ridiculed the song, you ridiculed the person.

@@NowILayTheeDownMFH The song is brilliant, but its the whole thing put together which makes it one of the great metal songs. From where it starts at the beginning, drifts into the solos in the middle then brings it back so it was a shame not to have that bit for the full song to be judged

I might be the only person requesting Clutch, but I'm going to keep pushing it. Clutch is a fascinating band. They've been around since 1993, and are one of the most underrated and unappreciated hard rock bands of all time. Clutch songs are frequently propelled by fuzzy, Sabbath-y, blues-inspired guitar riffs and heavy, driving drum grooves and bass lines. Their songs are a genre-bending hybrid of funk, jazz, metal, hard rock, and blues. Their lead singer, Neil Fallon, sounds like a truck-driving preacher dabbling in history, philosophy, and conspiracy theories. I'd strongly recommend checking out either 'The Regulator' or 'Electric Worry' as being good intro songs to Clutch, but I'd love to see you guys do 'The Regulator' personally.

The "beep" is a "natural harmonic" where you don't push down on the strings fully, instead you lightly rest them at certain sections so of the string so you just get the "ring" sound which is a note that is produced by the string but is normally just a part of the tone. Dope reaction as always. I normally don't comment cuz I'm a lurking expert but I like to drop knowledge since I play guitar and love to share :-) This is totally one of my favorite songs, glad you finally reacted to this. I don't really have any suggestions since I know you're navigating things and plenty of folks are shouting those. Keep on keeping on.

Honestly, seeing you guys react to some of my favourite songs is always amazing. This song is one that got me into heavier music. If you're wondering what the high pitched sound is, it's called a 'Natural Harmonic' (NH). It's one of 3 types of harmonics that one can make using a guitar. The NH is made by placing one's finger just above the string (as opposed to pushing down on it) and plucking in very specific places along the string to get a high pitched sound. Depending on which of the special places one chooses, a different pitch is heard. Great examples of other strange harmonics can be found across music, e.g. Killswitch Engage, Veil of Maya (Leeloo), InMe (Single of the Weak), CHON (Perfect Pillow). I'd love to see your reaction to Protest The Hero - Plato's Tripartite or Periphery - 22 Faces, though!

Shoutout to me!!Im SOO one of'em!! Imonna bask in that glory... ;-PMAN!!! I was listening to MH and was on the forth album in a row when Lost in Vegas popped into my head making me check out youtube for a new video. First one that came up was THIS!! I almost fell out of bed and made me fo my victory dance. So pleasantly suprised!!! I knew Ryan would like the guitars and for you, George, there are a few other song where percussionist, Dave McClain, is INSANE.There's definitely more to listen to from MH before you write them off. You have to look into the songs as a whole. Growing up with Maiden and harmonising guitars, which you find quite alot in MH material also, I love the contrast it brings to the filthy riffs. And the raw vs the delicate....Whoa!!AW man I could go on forever. If you guys dont do anymore Machine Head after this one I will still die happy. But please check them out more on your own so many awesome details and structures in their material it's crazy!Highly recommend the albums Unto the Locust and The Blackening for the most complete musical experience.Big Fat thanx for this video, Guys. It made my evening. Always enjoyable to whatch your stuff. Coolest channel I've found so far!!Peas, Bros.

The sound you were asking about is actually a harmonic which is a guitar technique utilized often in metal. In this case I believe they use the natural harmonic instead of a pinch harmonic to get that particular sound. Love the channel guys. keep it heavy \m/

a Pinch harmonic utilizes a vibrato effect on the string. So the harmonic used in this song is a natural harmonic. A natural harmonic is one that can be played on the guitar without any fretted notes. A harmonic is a clear, bell-like tone.

  • @lazarzc1
    @lazarzc16 жыл бұрын

The "beep" is called a natural harmonic on the guitar. When you don't fret the string, but place your finger on it over the fret and pick you can get this sound. It's a similar sound to a guitar "squeal" which is a pinch harmonic, just a different technique. You can get natural harmonics anywhere, but they're usually best at the 5th, 7th and 12th frets.

That "Beep" is a guitar, a distorted harmonic mostly in the fourth, fifth or seventh fret. They just hover their fingers on the strings instead of pressing the string down on the fret. The heavy distortion from the amplifier / FX pedals makes the harmonic sound like that.

That "BEEP" is a "pinch harmonic". Zakk Wylde also does them a lot. As you hit the string with the pick, you also touch the string lightly with your thumb (almost like "pinching" the string between the thumb and pick) - this causes a "harmonic" overtone of the note.

Tenacious D: good suggestion Pantera: an OK suggestion. A New Level or I'm Broken would be more effective I think. But Death... man, I've seen people recommending Flesh... before (not sure if it was you) and I really, really think it's not a good suggestion. Too long, too weird vocals and basically not the best introduction to the band at all. You'll put them off man. Scavenger of Human Sorrow is the only song that would make sense from ...Perseverance. I don't agree with TheMetalWeasel about Symbolic though, for me peak Death is Human/Individual/Symbolic and if they ever react to something it should be from one of those. Overactive Imagination seems like the most obvious choice, catchy, insane riffs, drums and solos. Grooves like a mf. Suicide Machine also makes sense and I am sure they will appreciate the lyrical approach. Speaking of which, really, Pull the Plug from Leprosy would also make a lot of sense if they ever wanted to listen to true old school death metal.

Great song but honestly give 'I'm your god now', 'Old' or 'Death Church' a listen from the album Burn My Eyes, or the mind blowing 'Darkness Within' from Unto the Locust which may has a groove that's a little easier to listen to than their intense stuff... 'We build cathredrals to our pain Establish monuments to attain Freedom from all of the scars and the sins Lest we drown in the darkness within' Love those lyrics!

The noise on the guitar you are referencing is known as a natural harmonic. Where an open string is slightly muted at a certain point on the neck of the guitar to only let the bell note come through. The more you know! You guys should check out the band Toehider - Whatever Makes You Feel Superior. Really outstanding track!

Pinch can sound's almost like natural. But there is just typical machine head natural on g string (or e cause guitar it's tuned down) between 4 and 5 fret :d

  • @davedagreat69

Essentially pinch harmonics and natural harmonics are the same thing. They are just created in a different way which means that, with pinch harmonics, it's easier to play any desired note and also play harmonics at much higher pitches. You can also play natural harmonics in any key providing the guitar is tuned in a certain way or you have capoed the guitar to make it possible. Also tapped or chimed artificial harmonics are the same thing too. They all sound different because of the different attacks created by either plucking or tapping or,in the case of pinch harmonics, plucking harder and creating the harmonic beyond the fret board to make the harmonic very high pitched and sound like a squeal.

  • @Kevin-wk3jq

Also, a pinch harmonic note can be modified by bending the string so that is the telltale sign, unless they are great with the whammy bar.

That high pitch effect is a harmonic on the guitar. Robb Flynn used the 5th fret. Dimebag Darrell from Pantera would depress the whammy bar on his guitar then pick the string on the fret board then immediately hit a harmonic point on the fret board then release the whammy bar to tension the strings again to make the squeal sound.
