I’d recommend the MacBook Air to pretty much everyone out there. This IS the Apple laptop to get, despite its $200 increase in price, no SD card slot (most won’t care) and smudgy midnight blue. It’s been a real treat to travel with!

I had a MacBook Pro 2018 Touch Bar 512gb that use to get very hot...Bought this Air yesterday, absolute dream...cool while using lot's of apps and clear pic - love it.

HI Karl, Great Review, ther are tonnes out there since even before m2 arrived, but your is one of the few that I actually enjoyed watching. I can just see the pleasure that you get out of this laptop and I must say you are spot on. mine is just Space Grey as was my M1, and its a thing of Beauty and Elegance. such a Beast of a machine and an absolute pleasure to work on.

Quick tip for people with the midnight color (like me), get a transparant case so you still get the color but not the oil stanes

Went to get the MacBook Air m2 today before school start (upgrading from an early 2015 MacBook Pro). Unfortunately they didn’t have the 256gb with 16gb. But they did have the 1TB with 16GB, so I opted for that. And it’s a fingerprint magnet. After tax with my student discount, it came out to $1783.49

Clip on cases can weaken the hinges of Macbooks, my old Pro's hinge used to wobble because of a case like that

I ordered the midnight blue too. But the new aluminum body has some painting issues. in some areas it is strangely lighter, as if there were scratches. some big ones and some small ones. when my hands are greasy, these stains appear. If you polish the device with a microfiber cloth, these spots will disappear for a while. that's why i applied for a replacement, i have several spots on the new macbook, even the apple logo has blisters. the touchpad is most affected. I want to know if someone else faced with the same issue?

Downgraded from a M1 MacBook Pro 16 to the M2 MacBook Air. 16gb/512 (Midnight). I have never had a MacBook air before, and I am completely astonished! What an amazing laptop. My son, who got my "old" M1 macBook Pro is also very pleased...😂I can recommend this machine to all that just need a laptop for social media and productivity work👍

@@namede6210 Hello. For me, it was the 16" size that made me downgrade because I travel a lot. But do not get me wrong, the 16" is just amazing! The M2 MacBook Air 16/512 is also fantastic for my use. It is very quick and responsive. Again, for my use, which is productivity work as web-browsing and office-related work. How the MacBook Air would work out for what you plan to use it for is just something I am not able to answer. I have never edited a video, so others will have to answer. But both machines are well worth the money. Hope you are happy with whatever Mac you finally end up with.

I’d avoid the M2 MacBook Pro 13” at all costs! M2 Air has better screen, better camera, MagSafe charging (which frees a TB port), and the new design (better resale value). The M2 MBP 13” is the same old M1 MBP 13” but with the new chip. Unless your workflows include extended video renders etc that would benefit from the fan, keep the Air or consider the 14” M1 MBP.

I own an M2 Air that I've now had about 3 weeks. Midnight color is BEAUTIFUL. Two things ... 1.) Fingerprints? There is no need for the whining about fingerprints. Simply get a set of skins (I got mine from Slickwraps) and viola there are no fingerprints and the Midnight color shows right through (buy matte skins). Done. No need for any reservations about ordering the Midnight color. Perfect solution. 2.) Sixteen hour battery life? Not a chance. What do you do? Let it sit on a table asleep all day? I don't do anything demanding ... emails, some web browsing, calendar entries, that's about it. I can get 6-7 hours which isn't bad but 16 hours? Sorry, no way. I'd recommend this as the best laptop on the market today and I come from owning two previous MacBook Pros. It's a beautiful device. Good review video but the fingerprint thing is not a problem if you know how to deal with it and the battery life is simply a fantasy. 16 hours? All I can do is laugh hearing that.

I would say be vary careful to the screen. I got my air M2 in about 3 weeks and the screen flashing. I swore it was not due to dropping or any pressure. So I went to the store, I could not exchange or return coz it was over two weeks. I did not have the Apple Care added during my order, so I need to pay out of my pocket $524 to repair the screen. So disappointed to this new M2 air. I have been used my old Mac pro for over ten years and it is still working.

I was considering between this and M1 pro MacBook Pro. This review sold me on air. I was wondering if it would be able to handle more than basic 1080p editing and if it's battery life really is that much better. Both are a yes. I am sold. Plus, I looked up the prices of 1 tb ssd with about half the read and write speed of this and they cost half as much as it costs to upgrade this to 512. So I will take you up on your suggestion of upgrading it to 16 gigs and keeping the base storage. I am sold.

Depends what you do, but my M2 MB Pro 13 gets about 17-19 hrs SoT at 30% brightness doing office stuff and media. Overnight drain is minimal. Just remember, when you have finished an app, close it to save battery and release RAM.

A few people have told me to go for m1 pro over m2 air purely for the 120hz pro motion display. Apparently very noticeable. 🤷‍♂️

This is what I was thinking…any upgrades to that m2 air and your dangerously close to the 1999 m1 pro which has a lot going for it. I’d probably recommend it if you want more power or just a bit better machine overall.

Base model M2 air, (with an external NVMe SSD) should be enough for most people. If you need any other upgrade, then I'd *absolutely*, no questions asked pick the 14 inch m1 pro.

I'm going to be honest with you. 120hz refresh rate is pointless and meaningless on desktop monitors and laptop screens unless you are gaming. There is a reason 120hz TVs cost so much. 60hz is just fine.

@@evacody1249 it's absolutely, 100% not "useless". While it is more noticeable in faster movements, such as gaming, it is noticeable in virtually all forms of movement on the screen. It's absolutely noticeable when scrolling through longer documents, or when moving windows across the screen. Heck, you can even tell the difference supply by moving your mouse across the screen.

Hi! What about ssd lifespan? On m1 there is a problem about which they are silent or do not want to notice. The system, even in the most normal mode of use, pours a monstrous stream of data to the ssd for an unknown purpose. Look at the trim and add resource. At least you will be surprised. Do not forget that the architecture of the arm from apple will not make it possible to replace the ssd separately, since it is a single unit with the CPU and RAM. Sorry for my English)

That is why I say buy 16GB of RAM if you need it, that is, if you are constantly using swap. The SSD will still last you 5+ years even with the wear but it will become slower over the longer term.

You can get a Belkin usb c adapter from Best Buy for $50 (there are cheaper models but I hear some people experience issues charging through cheaper models that have defects and may damage your Mac) and you should be able to mirror to IPad without any other accessories

I have a usb-c adapter that has an hdmi port, so I know I'll be able to use that to extend to my monitor. But I am asking if on top of that can I use sidecar or the like to also mirror to my ipad?

The m1 Air was the best, most awesome laptop I’ve ever owned (aside from my 16” M1 Max MacBook Pro). But the m2 is bester and more awsomer than the M1 Air by a long shot. I sold my M1 Air to by the M2 and definitely happy.

Creators sacrifice so much for the quality of the video 4k or 4k60 but user watch it at only 480p !!!!!!

As someone who has carried a gaming laptop in school until just recently, I really don't recommend it. The weight made me only bring it when I knew that I would need it, and the bulkier power brick that I also needed to carry, as batter life was shit made it even worse. The M2 in contrast lives in my backpack, regardless if I believe I'll need it or not. I don't even need to bring any extra chargers, as it's battery is outstanding to begin with. If I really do need to charge though, I can rapidly top it up with my normal phone charger.

The M2 Pros are coming in a few months so not a good time to buy the M1 Pro and no one should be recommending those devices ATM as I expect the M2 Pro 14/16 to be much more refined and the M1's will drop in price accordingly. M2 is the newest chip and in tech you buy the latest for future-proofing.

If you buy 16GB of RAM you will hardly use memory swap and so save wear on your NAND. Always upgrade RAM before storage unless you really need 512GB, then get both.

I purchased an m1 air when this was announced. Does most of what the new m2 does, but I saved $350!

Thinking about buying M2 Air updated spec or entry spec MBP M1 system, but not sure about screen. I do a fair amount of work in very bright environments, so if anyone has any comments/experience on how useable MBP gets vs MBA m2 that'd be great. Thank you

I have the same dillemma. From what I've heard, the screen is locked to 500 nits, when handling sdr content. Only when viewing HDR content the extra brightness is utilized. However there is a 3rd party app that unlocks that brightness for normal use.

Apparently 512 GB would be a better upgrade than the 16 GB since the base model suffer from reduced SSD speed. Don’t really know why u recommend just upgrade the ram and not mentioning reduced speed at all.
