Connie Mahaswaren: Whitney was a very good singer but she tried to put herself on the same level as not only Donna Summer but Chaka Khan and other great singers. I'm sorry but she had the potential to be a great singer but she came along at the wrong time... the eighties...which was not as kind to R&B singers as say the 70's or the 60's.During the eighties, even great R&B singers such as Stevie Wonder and Patti Labelle kind of sold out by watering down their music to some extent. Fortunately, singers like Patti Labelle, Stevie Wonder and others had already achieved greatness by the time the eighties came along. Unfortunately for Whitney, she was just getting started when the eighties came along and was never really able to really reach her potential. Imao, Whitney lent her voice to some rather subpar songs during the eighties that were not worthy of someone with a voice like hers. This, in my opinion, diminishes her stature as a great singer. This is why I say she is not worthy to duet with someone of Donna Summer's stature.

Oscar Montalvo, You must be awfully young. Donna Summer was a huge star, and the Queen of Disco in the 70s/80s. No, not as big a star as Houston, but hardly anyone was. She was certainly adored by fans, and I'm pretty sure the industry was happy with her, though her turn to Christian faith maybe wasn't quite so appreciated. But she worked hard for her money, and they respected that. She suffered from a boycott in the mid-80s and her career never quite recovered, whether or not she actually said some anti-gay things (she denied this, but the boycott was probably at the worst time for her career as her new record label seems to have made mistake after mistake). But she continued to have hits way beyond the length of many pop careers, and she was even more appreciated in Europe. Even much later she had hits on the dance charts and so on. Very few artists have sold as many records, either. from Wikipedia: LaDonna Adrian Gaines (December 31, 1948 - May 17, 2012),[1] widely known by her stage name Donna Summer, was an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She gained prominence during the disco era of the late 1970s. A five-time Grammy Award winner, Summer was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach No. 1 on the United States Billboard 200 chart and charted four number-one singles in the U.S. within a 12-month period. Summer has reportedly sold over 230 million records worldwide, making her one of the world's best-selling artists of all time. She also charted two number-one singles on the R&B charts in the U.S. and a number-one in the U.K.[2] Summer earned a total of 42 hit singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in her lifetime, with 14 of those reaching the top ten. She claimed a top 40 hit every year between 1975 and 1984, and from her first top ten hit in 1976, to the end of 1982, she had 12 top ten hits (10 were top five hits), more than any other act during that time period. She returned to the Hot 100's top five in 1983, and claimed her final top ten hit in 1989 with "This Time I Know It's for Real". Her most recent Hot 100 hit came in 1999 with "I Will Go With You (Con Te Partiro)". While her fortunes on the Hot 100 waned through those decades, Summer remained a force on the U.S. Dance/Club Play Songs chart over her entire career.

Slowly I've discovered more of her songs, "bad girls" "hard for the money" "loves unkind" "this time i know it's for real" "last dance" to name a few and now this gem. One of the most underrated singers ever. RIP Donna Summer. You gave us the gift of your wonderful voice, talent and music. I only wish I could of seen you live. Gone too soon.
