+Mongocom I tend to agree. Every platform has its strengths, so why make a big deal out of it? It mattered more when OSes were less interoperable (much more proprietary about their standards and hardware support) and home PCs were less affordable, forcing many to choose one over all the others to own and use. Those days are passed now - use 'em all!

+A Toyota Prius actually i have an old mac from 2009, i remember when apple has nvidia dedicated gpu, wich mine has, now it isnt really a mac anymore cause i upgradet it so much, the only thing that is original now is the case and the os... Its capable of running gta 5 on high settings, now the newer macs have this crappy intel gpus, wich sucks, kinda

I'm shocked at the Surface Pro 3 surviving the five foot drop. Mine shattered and was unusable after a two foot drop on a hard surface.

Also the surface area of the Mac dispersed the damage onto the floor as well as evenly across the laptop The triangle stand put all force on the notebook, notice how the "broken" part is where the screen landed initially

My $800 HP Windows laptop, with a touchscreen, does more than your $2k MacBook Pro does, for production purposes AND gaming purposes. Show me a MacBook that you can do Mechanical and Electrical work on during the day, then turn around and game on at night, then we'll talk. To say nothing of one that costs under a grand...

Matthew H i really dont understand why you feel that its necessary to start insulting me over something that isnt really even a big deal. as for being easily attached to objects thats a very common thing many people have (for example people who keep their grandparents' watch/lighter/pocket knife/random things like that) no, i am not a hoarder. the only things that have sentimental value to me are my laptop, a few items from my family members, and a few toys from my childhood. the rest of my stuff as long as it remains useful or there is some value behind it i will keep, but if there is no use then i get rid of it. long time since iv seen that one. the only furry artwork i have on my computer is drawn by me and is not pornographic (unless someone hugging their boy friend, or someone riding on top of a tank is pornographic) also why the hell would i even need anything like that? i'd much rather spend time with my boy friend, not sitting alone looking at porn (no offense to anyone who does)

Is it really worth your time to be arguing with someone over something that they enjoy? you can dislike what i enjoy but do you really have to go out of your way to attack that person...

Tablets are in general less durable. And the spinning wheel had a smooth and round shape so the forces were more evenly distributed and it rolled off. The blue screen monitor had that good stand that localized the forces and kept it there with some high amplitude vibrations. They would have needed to use an iPad and dropped similarly shaped objects to make it a valid test.

If Microsoft wants to try to market their Surface tablet for a laptop, it should be tested against laptops. Even their own commercial compares it to the Macbook Air.

graytlo The Surface is indeed a tablet, but it's a laptop as well, or hybrid at least. The OS on the Surface is what makes it's competitors other laptops, not other tablets, not to mention it's rather large for a tablet too, so structure wise, it should be equal to that of a MacBook Air, considering the MacBook Air is the smallest (well at the time of this video release) laptop Apple makes, making both fair and equal contenders for this test. Testing a Surface to an iPad would in fact be a very unfair test as the Surface is larger and would have a thicker and stronger internal structure to prevent damages versus a lightweight and rather small/thin iPad. Furthermore, how is this a shocker to you? People complain Macs are overpriced for same specs, when in actuality, the prices are very reasonable. Yes, you can build a PC more often then not with higher specs than a Mac for less cash, but between that PC and the Mac, which will last longer? Which is more reliable? Once that custom PC breaks, you have to repair it on your own, no warranty there. The Mac on the other hand, if it breaks, and a big emphasis on the IF, you have a pretty damn good warranty to cover it. However, that is IF the Mac breaks. I've been a Apple user for years, I even have laptops from 2007 and it works wonderfully still. Whole reason I bought newers Macs was because I knew I can rely on them. They have never crashed or had any corruption, speed was obvious decline as that happens to all computers. However, I can still turn on my 2007 MacBook and still use it today with no issues. As for a PC, you have to take extreme care of it, any slip up means instant trip to local electronic store for maintenance. Hell, I haven't even seen a PC last for more than 2 years without faulting in some way or another. So price wise, yes, you can go cheap with a PC, same power for less money, and if it breaks, buy another cheap PC to replace and hope your saved data can be transferred. That or you can spend a little extra the first time around, get a reliable computer that most likely will not break on you and know all your saved data will be safe. As far as gaming goes as well, yes, Macs use different graphic cards that aren't suited to gaming, however, the power that Macs have today can run games so easily that it's not even an issue. I use a late 2012 iMac maxed out and I can run BF4 on max graphical settings with no issue to my frame rate. Best part about it is it feels like it's running as fast as the day I bought it. So to all the Mac haters out there, I cannot argue specs vs a PC, especially for gaming. All I can do is say what a Mac can do that makes anything better spec wise quite useless. Bottom line, I'll take quality over quantity any day, and Macs are definitely higher quality.

The worst thing that happened to my Macbook was when I was holding it while walking to my chair, and tripped and dropped it. It worked fine, just one of the screws on the bottom had come loose, the and the metal was starting to come off, but I just screwed the screw and the metal was fixed.

First two actually depends on how you throw it and how it's positioned

The surface pro is a tablet first and a laptop if you pay the extra $100 (I know it's marketed as a laptop) and the Mac air is a full laptop, this is like comparing the iPad Air to an windows notebook

jo l the campaign was to show how it can function as a laptop software-wise with the keyboard extension, but even Microsoft said its meant to be a full laptop inside a tablet form factor, so I could see how you could make your argument in a software comparison stand point but hardware wise, its still a tablet.

Worst thing I ever did to a computer (which my high school had built for video editing) was plugging in a flash drive and sending a static electricity shock through it. Luckily for me, the machine was totally fine, but I could've been out a few paycheques.

Michls I think you need to calm down buddy. You don't know anything about me, so how can you possible know? I could literally make up anything on the spot about my experience with computers, and hope you'll believe it but I'll tell you the straight truth. I've built over 4 computers, am in AP computer science at my school, and my cousin with whom I talk to almost daily with is majoring in computer engineering. I dedicate entire portions of my life to learning about computers, and I stand by what I've said. PC's can be infinitely more complex, and manipulatable than Mac's, because Macs have a set design criteria. It's as simple as that.

From what you wrote initially, I thought that you said that "a mac was inferior than a pc" which that is something I totally disagree with, I use the two systems and I understand their history and their purpose, and I find them equally important, therefor none of them is better than each other, I don't know if that applies same to your opinion, but I just thought that I should share that being that you have shared a bit of information on what you are studying and what you are dedicating your life on, again I was so sorry for swearing at you, I sometimes just lose my temper when kids keep commenting on mac vs pc's videos saying that macs suck because macs can't game or whatever....

The worst thing I have done to my Macbook Pro Retina, was accidentally have flung of and smash really hard into the floor. It took absolutely no damage, no dents, there wasn't even a scratch or scuff. My mac, just like your Macbook Air had no case on. It even fell from more than 5 feet, the air got a huge dent from that. Lesson; Macbook Pro is not only faster and more powerful with more features, but much more durable.

The worst thing I ever did to my computer was trying to replace the ram witch dismounted the CPU so I had to completely disassemble it and then reassemble it correctly.

+WIRED One note is that the any PC can really run Mac OS X. Just a heads up!

Title should be: "Mac vs Windows Ultimate Showdown | WIRED’s Battle Damage."

In high school the electronics lab still had some mac 2's (class of '06) so they were relics already. That was my morning class and Had a travel mug with pipping hot coffee, I proceeded to pull of the top cover and poured the coffee straight onto the motherboard that damn thing just threw the frowning face o'death and by the next day it was back to life much to my horror. Not even the hot coffee mod could rid me of that dinosaur.

It wasn't really about the durability, it was more the angle they landed at. If i hit a laptop from the side i would do less damage than if i hit it in the middle of the screen.

That was not fair. Not to mention the monitors were different, you just compared a laptop to a tablet. This is like comparing two car companies and getting a sedan from one and an SUV from the other. Do an iPad vs Surface, that would actually make sense from a destruction standpoint.

Worst thing happened to my computer was When I was at school in grade 11, I have a macbook pro 15 2017 and our class was second story, I was talking to my mates leaning over the bars on the second floor and I dropped my mac when it was in it's case and no, it didn't go over the bar railing it went through the bars on the railing and fell all the way down and when I went down I found the out side of the case was pointing up and I found that my mac was completely bent and destoryed, it could turn on but no signs of life, and knowing highschool when it dropped everyone went "OWWWWW", wasn't the best day luckly I still had warrenty on it and they did some how accept the laptop back after it was only a week old and they said they can grab the parts out of the machine and put it in another one for a lower price so I brought another one now I have a UAG case on it lol.
