    Awesome, have many good years of using it ! The 500 ver lack the megical 15k air point. according to some "old and old" online pro aduioers it's the 12 -16k range of all time classic "air band circuits" that usually bring that coveted immediate listener / costumer response. It also lack the input Atnn. According to those same "old and old" audio onliners the NTI had ( and pardon me for my ignorance ) some sort of resonant / resonating feedback topology / characteristics / circuits ( my ignorance !) that could either got it litteraly and physicaly burned if used incorrectly or not buy the manuel by apprentices / wanbee soundmans and other inferior studio mammals. Or when applied by real studio engineer produce devastating resonance as affect on source that usually was blended parallel to the source. It's a dark art of playing like a teenager with High End oneofakind EQ, only very few that know to explains and demonstrate it are in listed in the UN save audio engineering organisation commitee - does the maag share those characteristics ? Do you take / make any usage in that ( allegedly) phenomena ? personally i would put it in my living room unconnected just to look at it and meditate ! Be blessed and prosper !

    I like it, it's a luxury item tho', I wouldn't name it among the essential, at the same time nothing sounds like it but I use it more in mastering than mixing, it might end up on the 2 bus twice every 10 mixes, more often it ends up on two mono channels or a stereo group. I also have many other eq's so there's that. I don't review it because I don't have time :D

    I agree. I love the curves of the plug-in, the 160hz band adds great thickness to individual tracks but the plug-in certainly doesn’t have a tone to it. You can’t hear it in use, if that makes sense. But the Maag isn’t a character EQ by design. It’s meant to be transparent/non-colourful. I’d be interested to hear how different it sounds compared to the plug-in because I’ve heard from many sources the plug-in is so close to the hardware that it isn’t worth owning the hardware (as close as 1% to credible sources)!

  • @mixbustv

    @mixbustv

    2 жыл бұрын

    Well you can do it in 3 ways, before the Neve, after or in insert. It depends 1st if you want eq before or after compression, I don't know where the insert is in the path, you should check the manual, I think is fixed position unlike the Fusion where you can swap the insert position. The manual will tell you. You need cables, out of the converter into unit 1's input, out into unit 2's input, out into converter input. If in insert, in of the maag into send, out of the maag into return (of the mbp)

    Maybe you should do a minimum research before you do a comparison? I have done that for you 🙂. - The headroom for the 500 MaagEq4 module is +25db (as correctly you say) - Maag Eq4M have +29 db headroom (as you correctly say) A MASSIVE 4 db difference 🙂 ? What is much more interesting and useful (if I may say) is that the Maag Eq4M has an input attenuator. This is more important than 4 db more headroom. For me that almost made me buy the M and not 500, but then I do have an input attenuator in my insert chain, so then the extra money was a bit wasted. - The MaagEq4MK has one additional Air band frequency, 15k (hardly VERY important.....?) - Yes, the pots are stepped on the 500 All the Best 🙂

    So there's no "Swiss knife analog mastering EQ" you're saying that can do pretty much 90% of the job done? What about Manley Massive Passive Mastering version. If someone put a gun on my head and say "choose your Mastering EQ MF!" I would go with Manley first than SPL, if it was the wrong answer and the gun jammed the first time, hahaha.

    Oh yes of course there are "swiss knife" mastering EQs, but mastering is about "no compromise" everything, gear, room etc.. So it's a bit of an odd scenario where you want to do everything with one EQ, that's why you see multiple eqs in mastering studios. With that said, I think versatility is as far as it gets from the MP. It's a great eq, not a versatile eq, not nearly as versatile as the PQ or the Maselec or even a Crane Song. For multiple reasons. But those are usually what you see as "main eqs" because they can do almost everything, then you see colors added to them. Of course, if you ask me the PQ stomps on everything else (or I'd have something else as my main mastering EQ, but... I'm waiting for the Wes TubeEQ which should be here in days and that, I'm afraid, is gonna be a great contender)

    @@mixbustv Yeah, I just looked it up this Wes TubeEQ ... From the specs it looks like a winner, I hope you'll do at least one video on it ... I'm curious about the "color" of the carnhil transformer output and overall "musicality" of the eq + transformer combo - if it brings some extra magic to the table. :)

    @@b.hornetiii.6771 yes I'm gonna do the premiere of it. The xformer (red output) is the same at the NGbus. Is quite a thick color, I'm more of a fan of the THD for mastering.
