14 years to become a legend, 18 years to become the greatest
That jump from 14 to 16 is just incredible. You clearly can see his talent at 14 but the legwork is on another level 2 years later.

That is because he was selected to join the Chinese National Team (Tier II) at age 14 (year 2002) and moved up to Tier I by competition at age 15 (year 2003), when he started to train with the very best.

Ma Long's skill is getting better and better over the years. Video camera technology is not.

He is the Goat.
He was not goat from day 1. What’s amazing about ma long is he constantly improved himself and kept his performance at the highest level, even after injury. Again, he could be another Chen Qi or xu Xin if he didn’t keep trying. That’s absolutely a greater achievement and career than Zhang jike.
unfornutely the golden era is coming to a end with Xu Xin and Ma Long in the last leg of their carreers

Chinese players are so good because they are taught correct form constantly from young age. Some young kids don’t even touch a paddle for awhile, only working on their form
