Such a close match. I am sure the kid will become a good table tennis player in future.
I have a feeling that this Ma guy will be the top TT player one day

Unbelievable a 16 year old was able to beat 2 sets in a row to legendary Samsonov who was still on his prime with 29 years old.
One should watch this match and the final of German Open 2016 back-to-back to feel the nostalgia.
that is so awesome what Ma Long already did 10 years ago !!! crazy
They also played each other in the German Open....11 years later in 2016! Both have had amazing careers.
Здесь Самсонов победил Ма Лонга. Победил опыт, игра "головой" и прекрасное чувство мяча. Владимир отлично сдерживал атакующую агрессию Ма Лонга и при этом сам переходил в нападение. Отличное видео тех времен.
Somebody said - samsonov was not serious at first and came back and beat Ma Long - please - see the match - 9-11 in set 7 is hardly the type of score you'd expect to come back and beat the opponent comprehensively - this at a time when Ma Long was 16 - I am amazed ...

What's even crazier is that Vlad was like 5th in the world here and Ma was like in the 100s. China is always on that next level.

He was not familiar with Ma's game in sharp contrast to Chinese coaches who have been dissecting every aspect of Samsonov's game since 1993.I'm sure they have trained a bunch of Samsonov ''clones'' just for practicing against his game.Samsonov is only a ¨lone wolf¨ from Belarus.
Nevermind the scores of this German Open Final and the 2016 one. What's amazing is that Samsonov (now 40 years old) is playing in both of those finals matches with Ma Long over a period of more than 10 years, and that Ma Long 11 years later is one of the greatest players ever in history.
Lots of mistakes and unforced errors by Ma Long, Samsonov capitalized, but for being 16 he did well but obviously had room to grow. He is hands down the best player right now though.

until now, he is still the best. 2020
Ma Long has improved soooooooooo much but the fact that his style of serving has never changed shows how consistent this man has been!
Samsonov one of very few unique players TT ever brought.
Thanks! The good old days of speed glue. Funny to see Ma Long looking like a cheeky boy :) He was already so good at such a young age!
The speed glue sound is real, lol
That 9-9 service receive from Samsonov was ABSOLUTELY GENIUS. The fake body motion was sooo convincing that even watching it, I thought he was going to play a BH push but he changed the motion to a FH flick to the far corner, to do that in that moment 9-9, Game 7 receiving in the German Open Final....can only imagine the skill level of Samsonov, it's almost incredible how he is still Top 20-ish after so many decades. His style has never once changed. Consistency and using angles and mental games over raw physical power loops, which is probably why he's been at the top for so long without getting any major injuries (like another European Michael Maze)

problem with Samsonov is he is not aggressive and proactive enough and tends to counter attack rather than attack - he tends to follow the rhythm rather than dictate rhythm ie reactive and not proactive to reach the very top.
very good for his age!
Thanks a lot, I enjoyed that one!
Samson is the best ping pong player ever he is 39 and now world ranks number 9

ma long was just amazing, solid backhand defense was obviously essential to build an all rounded player. but as much as a genius he was, still needed experience for the last few points. thanks for sharing
十六歲的馬龍已經是個天才加努力的男孩!❤❤❤
best match I ever seen in my entire life. Hooray Samsonov!🤗🙆🙆🙆🙆🙋🙏👆🤘
Ma Long did it this year also!
I was looking for a league of legends video, but i stayed, and I don't know why.
damn! samsonov did a come back from 1-3 to 4-3 :)
16-year-old MaLong was much more powerful than MaLong now. However, MaLong now is much more accurate, and smarter than 16-year-old Malong then.
Great yin pai on the forehand side by Ma Long.
If I could play at that level when I was 16...
so cute
I think MA LONG had the good fundermental in the past!!! 2016-2017 and the some next year IS MALONG AGE!!
GO THE YEARS
i like ma long

everybody said that Harimoto is very good at his age but look back to this and some video about young Ma Long. Harimoto isn't special at all.

@danielhasson825

At 15 years old, Harimoto has an unbeaten record against Samsonov of 4 wins and 0 losses, with the first win being when he was 13 years old (!!!). While Ma Long had lost to Vladi 3 times before finally beating him for the first time at 18 years old. So to say that Harimoto isn't special at all is outright insane and incredibly dumb.

ping232 yes but Harimoto beat Vladi at 41 or 42 years old
@Usako It is not strange at all. He was playing in Germany not in China! No players from European/ Asian nations have any crowd support when they play in China.
No nr 1 again ;)
What??? was he 16 yrs old at that time??oh!! HE is so muscled and big as well as he looks like today's ma long..Ohwow
valdi wasnt serious in the first 2 sets but when saw ma long was very strong for his age he came back and beat him
the dragon has already strong since 16
He's not 16 anymore, and he is the second best ranked player in the world at the moment. :)
Still better than FZD

Ma Long was only 16 dude.
Ma Long at the time when he still got weaknesses
@ yuhai zhang Waldner would not get China crowd suport if he were threatening Ma Long superemacy or any China #1 player. That is for sure. At the time Waldner was the #1 in the world and many Chinese players were mimicking his style so he was the idol of the crowd. Be realistic and don't pretend Chinese crowd is more sportmanship than others. That is human nature.
小龙
Wow Samsonov was very good in 2005. Here he DESTROY Ma Long
Ma Long had a weak backhand back then
I know that. You're implying that he doesn't understand what human nature is, when in fact the video proves that he does.
That's because he is from China. And they know even a small boy from China is stronger than the best in europe, so to speak :) You could even argue that the crowd was cheering for the underdog all the time :D
Do yourself a favor and watch the video again. Your comment makes no sense.
with 4 old Boy u mean Samsonov and the best Ma Long =))
Ma Long a little fat for that time. And his service was at that time clear as a day - he does not hide any serve effect - everything was visible. Now he is not so fat, with a lot more muscles and a very difficult to read service. Nice video where you can see the evolution of a player :)
ma long have a problem when opponent attack his body...
このときはまだ馬龍は人だったのか 微笑ましいな!
so strong!! strange crowd... it seems like a 4 year old boy is playing against the best and gets no support from the crowd.
Ma long chikito Littles ma long
En lo único que Harimoto se le parece a Ma long de joven es en gritar los puntos.
hahaha.....Harimoto destroyed Malong at the age of 14 and made Malong thinking hard about retirement while Samsonov still playing at 41 ...hahaha
