പുത്തൻ വികസന കാഴ്ചപ്പാടും അതിനനുയോജ്യമായ സാമ്പത്തിക പരിപാടികളും ഒരു പരമ്പരാഗത തൊഴിൽ സമൂഹത്തിനുണ്ടാക്കുന്ന പ്രതികൂല മാറ്റങ്ങളുടെ ഒരിടമാണ് മലപ്പുറം ജില്ലയിലെ അരുവാക്കോട് ഗ്രാമം. നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളായി മൺപാത്രങ്ങൾ നിർമിച്ച് ജീവിച്ചിരുന്ന ഇവിടുത്തെ കുംഭാര സമുദായത്തിന്റെ പിൻതലമുറ തൊഴിൽരഹിതരായി പട്ടിണിയിലേക്കെടുത്തെറിയപ്പെട്ടു. ഉപജീവനത്തിന് അവർക്കുമുന്നിൽ ഒരു വഴിയുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. വിശപ്പകറ്റാൻ സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് ലൈംഗിക തൊഴിൽ വരെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കേണ്ടിവന്നു. അങ്ങനെ ആക്ഷേപങ്ങളാലും ക്രൂരപരിഹാസങ്ങളാലും അരുവാക്കോട് ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടു. പുതിയ ലോകത്തിനൊപ്പം സഞ്ചരിക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹമുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ആശങ്ക നിറഞ്ഞ ഭാവിയാണ് അവർക്കുമുന്നിലുള്ളത്. അപ്പോഴും പൂർവ്വികർ കൈമാറിയ പരമ്പരാഗത തൊഴിൽ സംരക്ഷിക്കാനുള്ള അവരുടെ ശ്രമങ്ങൾ തുടരുകയാണ്.
Aruvakode village in the Malappuram district is undergoing adverse changes due to a new development vision and corresponding economic programs, impacting a traditional working community. The descendants of the Kumbhara community, who have practiced pottery-making for centuries, now find themselves unemployed and facing starvation. Over the years, women in this community have, out of necessity, turned to sex work to meet their basic needs. Consequently, Aruvakode has become a target for accusations and cruel taunts, leading to the isolation of its residents. Despite their eagerness to embrace the new world, an uncertain future looms ahead. Nevertheless, they persist in their efforts to preserve the traditional profession passed down by their forefathers.
