M88A2 Cold Start

Roughly 18° and hasn't ran in 3-4 days. Had to fire up the ol' APU to juice up the batteries. That old V12 was not having it

Ours didn't have that camo paint and at idle sounded like a pack of twin row wasps with a bad plug or two with lots a smoke.

The old M88's were better, they ran on Mogas, that was way back in the day.

When going to the field on the autobahn we were the last in the convoy and would slow down and let the germans get close put her in nutral and rev her up so the flames would shoot out the back. The germans would shit n their pants. Oh the old days!!

No way does an m88 compare to the herc. The herc is in a different class man. Top tier

The old M88 was not better. It may have had that "neat" nostalgic factor but that's it. The Herc is superior in every way, literally.

Does it start on gas or something? Sound changed dramatically after a while.

So the first engine you hear is the APU, just a small engine that charges the battery and runs some aux stuff. Most of the time it helps the main engine start, especially when its cold

@@davidfrederick6302 Right. I was referring to when they first fired the big engine. It sounded like a lopey gas engine and it was billowing out white smoke. Eons ago I worked on a ranch, one of the pieces of equipment we used was an old 1950's IH TD6 bulldozer that you started on gas before switching to diesel. It had a similar lopey sound on gas.

@@Whance_Chilkins the first sound you heard was the engine attempting to warm up, clear out and reach the proper rpms for idle. The driver helped speed up the proccess by stepping on the trottle and clearing out that white smoke quicker, afterwords you heard the proper idle.
