You do a great job explaining the process... Great video Boost!
I have only been into "cars" for about 2 years, and I am amazed by the skill it takes to build an engine, I know its been done a lot with several engines, but to me, just from installing a few bushings, coilovers, exhaust and some other random stuff that I thought was difficult I feel doesn't even compare to the difficulty of building a reliable engine. Boost is a whole different story.
I love Alberto's videos
I know I'm a little late to the party, but your videos have helped me out immensely with my turbo e46 project. Thanks for everything you've done and do.
Alberto, thanks so much for such detailed instruction. Your videos have taught me so much. Thank you brother.
Wait! you can't just take off the gears to the Vanos, you need to get a elemination plate to hold the camshaft in place! otherwise it will just wander between the max and min limit of Vanos travel, and also you need to set the timing with the chain pre tensioned to I think 3 nm. sorry for my poor english but i'm from sweden, but i have spend a lot of time working on bmw engines. Did you do the same thing with your Vanos on the last engine? cause a free travelling intake cam can propebly cause your detonation problem!
this guy explains everything simple to understand and do it...great vid
I'm back Alberto, just wanted to say thanks for including the cam timing locking procedure. Just did it and I feel way more confident in my e36's ability than I have in a while. Just did a complete refresh on the vacuum system at the same time. Looking forward to new content.
lol I'm in college and learning about engines right now and this build probably sums up everything I've learned.
You're doing really well with this mini series man - keep it up!
probably one of the best videos yet!
i am from brazil and you helped me a lot. i've an e46 320i and i'm putting the 3.0 kit, m54 engine, but you helped me a lot thank you very much.
Alberto good job i'm following you since the begining, the videos got really better, you explain well keep going!
Thanks for the content! This is very valuable information that takes years to acquire.
This is why I watch your Chanel I’ve learned a lot thank you @BIGBOOST
Excellent videos Alberto. Keep up the good work!
Nobody hates you Marcos youre one of a kind.
Got to love alberto enjoy his videos learn so much... need your own shop again... we watching you from england pal
Badass videos😎 Thank you for being so knowledgeable and in-depth!
you have taught me quite a bit about these motors. thought about swapping a m52 into a 325CI. now I understand how these in specific go togeather with the vanoss junk. thanks!
love this series, learning a lot. FIY, the "guide pins" (0:40) are called dowels

he torqued them three times 25 50 75, there is no way that he left a nut loose.
I think the correct term for those manifold nuts is 'copper flashed' non the less. Great build big boost!
I love your channel so much, you are really helpful with everything., but what I don't understand is all that help you've done for Adam. I never see him in your videos helping you. It's common courtesy in the racing scene. You help him, he helps you. But he doesn't. I do it every weekend with friends and my cousin racing. If their motors blow, we are there until the motor is built, then they are there to help me. It's how it goes..

Shorties in the back knocked out is the highlight of support....She's going to jump up later..."WHAT, I wasn't sleeping I just nodded off a little bit!"
genio total !
You did not put a gasket in when you mounted the oil pump.... the one for the oil lines into the engine block.
From an e36 owner to another, keep up the awesome work! Any thoughts on having your own garage someday? I would have you do a sick build for me!
The weld on the exhaust manifold looks like a hurricane weld
Isn't it a good idea to either safety wire or tack weld the oil pump nut? At higher RPMs the nut is known to come loose.

dont understand either, i ment like his life style not his language or where he is from.
further details on cam installation would have been nice. fav youtube content tho
can you bottom mount the exhaust manifold? im planing on doing the same thing for my m52tub25 engine and i want the turbo to be hidden
I am always putting regular permatex gray on exhaust gaskets, ant it always holds.
As a newbie, I've got two questions: First of all, while you're installing head studs, you torque them down just by hand, then put washers and nuts lastly. So that means that if you tightens those nuts (right with specs) it torques down those studs all the way down? I don't know if it's clear what I'm trying to tell. And second: How do you know, that camshafts are positioned correctly? You showed us those two dots facing up, but I'm not sure it's up related to the lifter trays or just straight up related to the floor. And I'm sorry for not the best language :) Keep doing what you're doing, I love watching this kind of videos!
Damn that you know what you are talking about
A year of college only to learn this in a few videos,
hope you put locktit on the the oil pump gear nut
Why are you not using the M3 oil filter housing?
How was his e36 working in the previous video when he hasn't finished building the engine and his previous engine blew up?
I wish id have kept my m50 pre vanos motor outa my 91 525i and found a matching 5 Spd also had a 400 modified outa of a71 ltd. that was a torq monster also as was the m50
im lost but last video you did the cam shafts ... now you are doing the head gasket again and the pistons look old
My own experience with engine building would have lead me to give the block-side threads on the studs a light coat of the ARP grease, but the difference in applied torque is likely too small to be of consequence, especially with those fire-rings, which are friggin trick as hell. All in all, good work. Maybe try getting a nap here or there during the build? Cup of tea? A coke?
You didnt weld oilpump nut? Or did you even put thread locker on it? Ive heard, that they get loose really easily. And why you didnt put head studs before putting head on it? But great work anyway! Im just asking my stupid questions ;D
Big boost watch my vr6 turbo headgasket rebuild video i show you a awesome technique to setting the head on the block by cutting the head off the oem head bolts on 3 of them them install all your other bolt/studs and remove the old as you go.. makes putting the head on so much easier and guarantees it goes on perfectly the first time..
What’s the head gasket brand I cannot find it?
Are they standard pistons
If I honestly had money in my pocket for you to teach me how to work on these type of engines and so on I'll do so. I love how you follow the specs and procedures. That's a true mechanic there.
Didn't the last engine blow because of vanos delete? What's different this time?
What is the compression ratio of the engine?
Sorry but what was the reason you didnt use the vanos/put the vanos back on? If doing this engine build is it better to not have it or was it just for time purposes you didnt put it on?
camshaft timing and vanos?
What exhaust manifold is that?
Hey Alberto, who was in the Marine Corps?
that is a fine piece of engineering

i want to stroke an m50 with m54b30 piston rods and crank but i want to ask you if you know the valve pocket depth of m54 piston is much smaller than the m50s... do you know if that is a problem?
@AccessMental
5 жыл бұрын
its not an issue the m54 pistons sit more than 2mm below the deck of the m50
@Alberto BIGBOOST are all straight 6 engines set out similar to this?
@ALBERTOBIGBOOST
6 жыл бұрын
Biggie Smalls yup
what valve cover is that ?
forgot to torque one of you head nuts to 25ftlbs. it likely wont matter. enjoying the build ;)
Just curious: do those "cut rings" that you're using on the head gasket have an impact on how many times you can re-surface the head? It seems like it would; then again, they may only have a minimal impact on the head material itself. It almost seems like an alternative to o-ringing/copper wiring your block. I wonder if they lower your compression too? Oh, and I keep saying it, but you keep not responding: run an ethanol mix (E25-E30) or/and (I'd definitely do BOTH - I do on my own car) spray water-methanol! You will have a HUGE safety layer via temp reduction and octane boost, and prevent the same thing happening again, plus hundreds of degrees cooler cylinders will make your arguably tight ring-endgap choices much less likely to be an issue. You can safely run more timing for more power reliably and make your turbo last longer by not having to wind it up as much! Win, win, win!!!
