You forgot to mention that they moved the camera to a landscape orientation on the iPad Pro (it was already landscape on the Air) and that they removed Nano-SIM on both the Air and the Pro.

Matte screen is aimed specifically to professional illustrators/ artists who want the "Paperlike" feel when they draw. These professionals will likely get the 1TB memory for the upgraded storage, RAM, and CPU too. Since the matte screen degrades the picture, Apple likely doesn't want the regular pro user to have to experience that. Tbh you're still better off getting a magnetic matte screen protector instead. But its just more convenient this way

Think abt it for just a second. Why wud the Ipad need a glass back. So it can wirelessly charge?

Really glad that it didnt get glass back or wireless charging. While sure itd be cool. The real point is that the magic keyboard kinda does that function by giving you a place to charge and leaving a port available for data or dongles. Adding a wireless charging spot would be useful if you didnt have the MK but idk how many ppl would have a wireless charger they could use in a convenient way while charging and using the ipad. Most qi chargers are part of some combo charging stand (so charging multiple devices) or designed for sitting off to the side, not necessarily to be used at your desk while using the device. So for the ipads overall size and uses, i dont see how wireless charging would blend in or adapt into ppls workflows all that well.

Maybe we will have Magsafe on the iPad Pro M4 Pro 14 inch. I suspect this is coming though obviously it will cost 3-4 hundred more than the corresponding iPad Pro 13 inch. Another point, the Magic Keyboard for the 14 inch will be more advanced and will also probably cost at least $450. Just my expectations for fall 2024.

Sorry bro, just bought a Jackery 1000 Plus and I LOVE it. When you live in a home that is 100% electric and it’s in Austin Texas, you want some sort of back up, and Jackery is the best of the best.

Great video once again and the issues he talked about are in fact as I heard last night 100% to do with the limitations of Ipad OS. All the cool features that I would love like night stand with vibrant clocks and a better redesign for reading graphic novels are some way behind at this time of writing but the set up is perfectly future proof and as the year goes on I expect IPAD OS 18 to 18.4 to really start to show just how good the 11 inch model really is. The 1TB and 2TB options are probably really necessary for video as was displayed in the launch video as as such it's not for everyone. JM

The new Magic keyboard case also brings back the Esc key... ending Apple's misguided war on the Esc key started by Jony Ive. I couldn't even consider Apple's old Magic keyboard case because it was missing... I went with a Brydge instead.

The reason for the M4 is related to the change in chip production by TSMC. The M3 was based on an outdated mode of fabrication architecture and the M4 reflects the latest, however production has not fully come online. So Apple chose the M4 but in smaller quantities, hence the iPad market rather than other devices. The M3 production will be phased out over the next year.

They chose the iPad for the M4 and future M chip launches because of small product base and low yield on the 3nm new node. Give time to make the process more efficient for the Desktop Lineup and iPhones in the fall

I'm planning to buy the Base M3 Pro MacBook Pro this week. Is it still a good option? I'm just bit confused because now we already have M4 chips, so they might drop the new MacBook Pros in the near future. Any Suggestions?

@@RHeidenreich572 Thanks for the suggestion. Base M3 Pro does come with 18 GB ram & 512 GB storage. So that should not be an issue. I was just concerned with the timelines of M4 Macs.

Yeah when I saw the nano textured coating I thought, you must *need* to film outside to risk using your iPad regularly in direct sunlight with the elements (and if you are, you’d probably be using an enclosure) but tandem OLED or not it will degrade in the sun with enough radiation. It’s ironic this is releasing right after the worst geomagnetic storm in 4 decades

@@peterhahn8280 Lees sun in the UK , therefor the exposure wouldn’t be as intense , hence you could be outside longer periods without intense sun burning up your iPad battery. It’s more overcast in that region!!!

3:49 M4 with 9 core? or 10 core?

I am 74 years old. I bought an Apple Pencil that I never used. So I saved on not buying a new one . And my hands are small old lady hands; and so using the keyboard on the screen has always been just fine for me; so I saved money on it buying the keyboard. The reason I wanted the iPad Pro has to do with my vision deteriorating over time; in the strength of my wrist and fingers,. The iPad was cheaper itself so I save money there. And my turning in my old iPad Pro was finally significant; so I saved money there. I’m sure I will be pleased. The case for the new pro came and I was surprised by that, it is quite heavy. So I don’t know about the strength in my hands of holding both together. We will see..

I ended up getting an air, for the price and my education pricing, it’s so affordable.

Unless they let you run Mac OS apps on the iPad Pro im not upgrading my M1 1TB/16GbRam iPad Pro, its a super machine that´s highly limited by the software

I’m surprised I’m not hearing this, but it feels like they are simply not wanting to continue mass production on the M3 chip.

I was going to upgrade, but they aren’t making the Smart Keyboard Folio for it… it seems like no biggie. But it’s a deal breaker for me…😢

The new Magic Keyboard also supports data pass through the Smart Connector, pretty cool if you ask me.

The M4 chip was fundamentally necessary to make this iPad as thin as it is and to have the double OLED display. It turns out the M4 is much much more power efficient so they could make the battery thinner / smaller and have 2 power hungry OLED panels while keeping the same battery life. There is also a new display driver on this M4 chip that can address both layers of the OLED display simultaneously. Without this new M4 chip they just couldn’t make this new iPad.

I’m still using my 2018 ipad pro, it’s showing it’s age, but unless ipad os 18 is amazing, I’ll probably get a the next mini or regular ipad. I love the, for consuming content, but an iPad can’t replace a real laptop for me still.

You stated that the new Pro 11inch is 100g lighter when in fact it’s about 20g. For both models, the weight is almost identical to the previous generation.

I feel like the only reason that they released these with the M4 and the pub they gave them, is BECAUSE iPadOS 18 is going to be a significant upgrade in what can be done with iPads. It's the only thing that makes sense.

This may be an interim iPad release. This may have been a release to get OLED and m4 out because of low m3 yields, with the redesign coming in the next refresh.

I would argue removing the camera bump completely would be the only real change that would make sense and be beneficial, but not much else can be done...

Is it fair to compare a Geekbench score from a MacBook to an iPad? MacOS is a more demanding OS using way more resources, so I would think comparing the same chip on a MacBook vs an iPad would have different results, even though the chip is exactly the same. Am I wrong? If you watch Max Tech's video, he explains why Apple switched to M4 so quickly. There were issues in the manufacturing process of the M3 so TSMC basically required Apple to change the process to make the M4 so they needed to rebrand it. But it is basically the same chip as the M3, it just produces higher yields with less mistakes. I don't believe that the M4 is 25% faster than the M3. It sounds like they are basically the same chip, so I would expect scores to be *very* similar.

You forgot to mention the repositioned front facing camera.

I'm waiting for an iPad Ultra 16" or at least 14". Those iPads r small.

I don’t get the notion that iPad Pro buyers are strapped for cash & are mad that Apple increased the price or made it less compatible…. It’s complete bs, with all the improvements, I think people are going to be more satisfied than ever with the Oled display & the new Apple Pencil… All this anger is really coming from the people who want to waste their entire paycheck for one of these devices instead of waiting to be able to actually afford it…

Is the Oled display really such a crazy upgrade from the mini led? I’ve been rocking the m1 iPad Pro for almost 2 years and have only ever noticed the screen blooming when I was actively looking for it, but overall it’s a really good display.

I think the anger comes from people who were expecting more from the iPad Pro with M4. People use to complain about the limited software and the poor management of files. A lof of them want to use iPad as their main device but of course it has its limitations.

an oled screen is purely cosmetic and doesn't nothing else other than look pretty until some dust from your microfiber cloth leaves a hair line scratch across it. The new apple pencil, and I say this as someone who uses Procreate daily, is not worth another 129$ period. I already have a pencil, I'm not paying 129$ to turn it around. It's less than previous models because previous models still do 97% of what these news ones do for less money. Period. Try again.

The case came to my house already and I was very surprised at how heavy the case was. So I’m waiting to see if you’re right. Maybe the case is so heavy to protect the device.

Although the Magic Keyboard doesn’t protect the edges from its aluminum denting risk it does keep the iPad flush and flat when not in your hands so you should be fine if you aren’t applying tons of torque to it when in your hands

Apple said in the launch video that they skipped the M3 because it could not support the requirements of the Tandem OLED. They developed the Display co-processor that handles the two OLED panes to spread the wear between them. It would be stupid to re-engineer the M3 chip for the Tandem chip, so they skipped it and went to the M4. The conspiracy nonsense I see about that is a bit ridiculous. The M4 has been ready for a while, though yield has been low, but Apple has negated this by using the poor yield as a 9-core variant of the M4 chip.

The prices for the 13 inch iPad Pro went down in the UK. 256 was £1369 now £1299, the 512 was £1599 now £1499 even the 2TB was £2499 now £2299. Also did you forget to mention the Dynamic Island that was predicted ?

No Dynamic Island. I knew it. The iPad will end up being as thin as a sheet of paper.

I don’t care for the new iPads until they a desktop version of OS when it is attached to a keyboard and mouse (magic keyboard) and iPadOS when not. Dex is miles ahead.

Please explain why DeX is "miles ahead" of Stage Manager. I use Stage Manager and it does 95% of what DeX does so I cannot understand your take.

Before any Apple fanboys think that Apple was the first to use Tandem OLED panels: Some Android phones already have that like the Honor Magic 6 Pro and Honor Magic 6 Ultimate which use Tandem OLED from the company BOE.

Apple was the first in tablets and likely the first in laptops. Upscaling this tech is obviously harder than on a smaller smartphone display. Yes, the idea of dual-stack OLED has been around for a while. Samsung refused to entertain them due to a lack of profit, but when Apple went to LG, they changed their mind. Sadly, Samsung has struggled and is unable to make 13-inch variants due to terrible yield (LG is making them). Also, Samsung's 11-inch yield is poor, so LG has been asked to fill the gap. So, tablet Tandem OLED is clearly tough. If Samsung, the King of displays, is struggling, then it is a lot harder than making smartphones.

The title specifically states “M4 iPad Pro - My Thoughts” this would lead viewers to believe he would specifically give his thoughts on the iPad Pro, versus mostly comparing actual specs and features to what was leaked. The title is extremely misleading and not what I and what I imagine many were hoping to watch when clicking. This is called giving feedback, versus being completely offensive, like you.

I love these KZreadrs. They all pretend to have intel. They guess obvious changes and then say “we got 80-90%” correct. They were incorrect on the M4 chip being used which is major. Incorrect on MagSafe. Incorrect on thinner bezels and new design. Incorrect on the exact price increase. Kinda obvious there was going to be an increase. But couldn’t guess the proper increase. What were they correct on?

Of course, when we talk about professional apps, things are different but so many pro apps are already available on the iPad and more are coming.

Apple is a publicly traded company that answers to their shareholders. They're not stupid to allow iPads running MacOS to cannibalize their Macbook sales. 🤣🤣🤣

A lot of tech reviewers think iPad pro users are glorified Mac Pro users. If you use your iPad pro in a pro setting you're most likely a designer or artist or 3d renderer etc etc. If you don't do these "iPad things" then keep your traditional MacBook. And if you are doing 3d modeling or multiple layer designs and artwork, you NEED a lot of computing power. It's not overkill it's helping iPad pro users tremendously. Whether it's more layers, faster rendering or the ability to use more plug ins and tandem software. Use what makes sense to you.
