@@MattTalkTech I am curious about the specs on this new one - the current one would be a step back compared to my 2019 iMac but instead have focused on different colors. Not interested in the various colors, want more memory/storage and upgraded silicon to use for my photography so nice to see upgrades - just want them in 27" iMac! Have a studio display to go with my MacBook pro but I seem to prefer the big iMac!

Hi Matt, yes I most definitely will be getting the M4 iMac currently using an old intel one from way back so this will be a big upgrade, I use it for music on logic a bit of video stuff as well as personal as well so I’ll get the 1T and 24 Ram in the green meanie colour, most excited about this news, thanks for the update, Keif 👍👍👍

Count me in...my M1 is still working flawlessly with 16 GB RAM and 1TG storage and should meet my needs for an additional 5 years minimum...I don' t do any silly gaming or graphics...just keep the bold, bright color options with this baby!

Well i never coloured cable I’ve been waiting 10 years for that i very excited and can’t wait.

This is great for those needing the 24” but from what I’ve read most are looking for the 27” to come back or larger version. I’d have to agree. As much as I like my Mac Studio I still miss my old 27” iMac.

It’s crazy how Apple ignored updating the most popular design computer of all time. As an architect I know so many iMac users that have been waiting for a powerful and larger screen iMac. If they only release a bumped 24” it’s ridiculous!

I wouldn't mind that option, but actually I've grown attached to the 24" size, now I do less side by side and run full windows and just use multiple desktops with hand gestures so you can swap fast or drag files right between desktops, it's like having a large monitor. I came from 2 monitor set up, multiple desktops changed everything for my workflow, I have 6 desktops and I find I focus better. But that's just one persons work flow, but I never thought I would like it.

Skipping, I recently got a mini and love it

hehe ..i wrote down my dream rig ..it's a studio 32gb ..4 tb drive. Although my iMac has never let me down.

Worth noting is that iMac 24" got a 218 PPI display. Good to know if you wanna add an external display with the same 218 PPI. You got these options: Apple 6K 32" Apple 5K 27" Samsung ViewFinity S9, 5K 27" Three displays to choose. Four if you can find that LG 5K 27" (made for Mac).

Thanks for the video, although I'd rather have a desktop mac m4 ultra, because nowadays I do most my stuff on the iphone, and I trade in my ipad mini with the ipad 11 m4 and I learned how to replace my laptop almost entirely, so now I would need just a very powerful mac when I'm home and I'm perfect.

I've always liked the colored accessories it comes with, but not enough to buy one

Looking/waiting for larger screen iMac .. I’ve got the 2012 iMac

M3 to M4 - who cares anymore. Next year M5, then super secret M6, and on. Just make a 27" iMac again (with 32" option), since pretty much everyone yelling for a bigger screen. Always good to never listen to your consumers.

Always found that 27-28” for a display was kind of a sweet spot that is both not such an extensive stretch and allows for a comfortable side-by-side view of 2 pages, documents or websites. I’m not into gaming so I don’t need a more immersive experience. This does make me wonder who, at Apple, was responsible for considerably downsizing the iMac’s display. I believe it was a purely financial decision (i.e. to cut production costs and increase margins) but also a decision to make the iMac more appealing to entry level home users and a lot less attractive to existing iMac owners with more professional needs (developers, graphics designers, videographers). The latter have been forced to upgrade to the more capable Mac Studio and Apple Studio display. So yeah, I’d argue that Tim Cook has been trying very hard to squeeze more buck out of Apple users, and charging $200 for an 8GB RAM upgrade isn’t something Steve Jobs would have done IMHO.

The iMac CPU upgrade paths are really weird. Same, would like to see an iMac with a Pro CPU on it.

I wasn’t expecting an M4 release for this year. This is a big surprise! This is going to make it even harder to decide which I replace first, my 2015 MacBook Air or my 2017 iMac. Probably,y MacBook Air as I use it more. still, it’s going to be a hard choice to decide.

It's about time that Apple include at least a m4 pro chip version. Something a bit more capable without having to eat into the Mac pro. More CPU and GPU. Such a wonderful design to give such a basic output.

Hello Matt, I am still some what disappointed that the Apple Studio has not been updated yet. I have my two very very old I3 IMac 27" and very old 5K i7 27" IMac and was so hoping to upgrade this year. But I do not think its worth waiting for the M4 IMac I will just save up a bit more to see if the Apple Studio gets the M4 Max or just get the M2.

It depends on how good the spec is for photo editing

I was interested in an M4 mac, but the specs aren't as good as macbook pros so i was waiting for an M4 macbook pro 16" but that might not happen this year? My 2008 macbook pro and ipad 2008 are dying, so they will need replaced asap-- whether with imac or macboo pro, not sure which one.

It seems silly to get a new one now when a newer one is due soon, but I guess it depends on how many times this poor macbook dies and when I get fed up. I've restarted it about 6 times in the last hour. My ipad is from 2008 and doesn't turn on anymore, so I may have no choice! Thanks for your videos, they're so helpful for keeping in the loop!

I will be waiting for the MacBook Pro M4 Max. Still using a 2016 MacBook Pro ;-). Wanted to make the transition to the Apple Silicon Macs with the MacBook Pro M3 Max, but since the M4 will be substantially faster than the M3, waiting a bit more seems more sensible.

What gives me heartburn is that there is no chip upgrades like a pro or max. With the increased size of the chassis and fans, there is less of a problem with overheating compared to a MacBook so it would make the iMac an option I would consider. As it stands, I will only consider a studio even though it forces me to buy a separate screen. Why did Apple decide against continuing to produce powerful large screen iMacs?

Im going to stick to the Mac mini with. Dell 40" Curved monitor hub

It seems like this is not for the pro consumer but rather for those who are interested in basic.

Zero reason yet again to upgrade from the mid tier m1 8gb/8core cpu/gpu 256gb ssd. I use mine as a studio/work computer, and my 16”m1 pro as my editor/personal computer. The m1s were made too good, the resale market is not good for the m series compared to previous Intel gens, so may as well get $$$ worth out of them. 🎉

I'll wait for a price reduction on the previous models 😅

Unlikely there will be another iMac Pro.The one that released in 2017 was just a stop gap whilst they was still developing the 2019 Mac Pro to replace the previous Trash Can model.Historically,the iMac has never been aimed at Pro users.

I’d like to see a bigger iMac, either 27 or 32 inch. I’d also like to see a proper Ethernet socket on the rear rather than having it integrated into the PSU.

I think I'll stick with my, full spec M3 iMac, for now. You know what would be AWESOME?!? - Now that Apple are using the 2x OLED tech, in their "Pro" devices. What if they used the 32' Pro Display XDR screens they were shipping with the Mac Pro, and turned that into the new M4 iMac, plus upgraded peripherals (USB-C), and a "Pro" model in black, with a comparable configuration to the current line of M3 Pro/Max MacBooks. (Save the Ultra chip for the Mac Studio, and Mac Pro) A 32' Pro Display XDR M4 iMac, configurable up to 32gb Uni-Mem., I'd upgrade for that! (Although 24gb is way more than most of us need.) As for design changes, aside from an Apple logo on the chin, I wouldn't change a thing.

What about a 27"?????

8GB RAM and 256GB SSD? Yeah no. Apple should at least make 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD base.

24" is still a quite small screen today for an Imac. I also hope the 8gb version disapear but I guess no, it is a shame to have 8gb while the new macOs use more and more especially with AI and with graphic programs.

I bought my last 27” iMac back in 2017, I will never buy another one unless Apple reintroduces a 27”or larger screen model again.

Prefer a Mac Mini and a separate monitor. My understanding is that future Macs would start with 16gb ram. With Apple Intelligence, 8 is going to be grindingly slow/ useless.

@@NNI4262 The more RAM, the less often we’ll have to upgrade to a new machine, so like you say, I think 16GB is a minimum for AI.

Makes no sense for iMac to use lightning if everything Apple else is using USB C ports. They'll need to just go USB C with the new iMac.

The base model will cost 1299 dollar. So did iMac G3, so did iMac M3 :)

How Apple can still justify 256GB Storage in a desktop in 2024 is ridiculous. The base model should be 512GB.

A lot of us feel the same way.

🍏 AN IMAC WITH A "ROLLABLE" SCREEN THAT EXTENDS TO 27" WOULD BE GOOD. IT COULD EXTEND FROM BOTH SIDES AND HAVE A DYNAMIC DOT AS WELL AS A MAGSAFE TRACKPAD STAND BASE TOP.
