M3 Max MacBook Pro with 128GB of RAM - who ACTUALLY needs this?!

Ғылым және технология

This video would’ve ordinarily been uploaded as a Short, but since it was filmed on a different platform and is longer than 60 seconds, I’ve decided to upload it as a normal video instead since I still want this content to be available on my KZread channel!

As a drumming DJ using midi software to summon notes from my DAW, 128GB and no slower is the way to go. Latency is my biggest enemy while performing live. Zero delay with every tap is so crucial for expression. So yes, there is a need and desire for ultra crazy insane fast RAM.

yes I can confirm LOL. I usually sit on around 90GB usage while composing Orchestras. And if I want to record and edit vocals on top, it will easily push it to 130GB

Dude. Local LLMs need that amount of RAM. Everyone will use them soon. Will take 2 years (or never) until small enough for, say 32gb.

Right but only few people can afford such machines and people will resort to using some 7B models right now like Mistral, Zephyr, etc. Apple will have to up its baseline RAM to at least 16 GB I they are planning to put their own LLM for Siri in newer versions although it's still low.

Yes Ae eats RAM as much it can, it’s totally impressive, so yes, if you want the best performance these RAM amount it’s important. But despite this, in this particular case with that huge RAM, unless your project has a large duration, you probably only reach these 128GB at max resolution preview, and this is a thing you don’t use many times in a realistic work scenario. Ae requires a lot of CPU computing, specially in animation and 3D. Normally Ae users we work at quart or third from original resolution because while animating/putting effects or whatever, these changes have to be saved on your RAM or cache memory, so the CPU has to render another time all and we don’t want big frame drops because they will affect to the workflow. Well, now with these high performance new processors like this M3 Max or the recent AMD and Intel CPUs and the upcoming ones, the game may change and people may start working more in half resolution, so the very high RAM is even more necessary. But al least by the moment, quart and third are the most used. Anyways yes, Ae takes an incredible amount of RAM so if you want to have a smooth experience, the more the better, 32GB starts to be nice and fine, but 64GB or even more like in this case, is optimal. Now i’m a 40GB user :) This M3 Max with that 128GB is an authentic dream for this.

Great short video. As a user of Davinci Resolve user, I am comparing the 96GB Ram (M3Max 14/30) with 64GB ram (M3Max 16/40). My current setup is M2Max 12/30 with 64GB Ram. A pity there is no 128GB ram option for 14/30 and no 96GB Ram for 16/40 model. Have you got any thought or comparison that could help me decide?

The problem is that you're not comparing anything. I have a friend who does AfterFX on Macbook MAX m2 with 96GB RAM saying he is not sure the RAM really helps. Sure you can see MacOS taking the advantage of it. But this fact might be over-rated... we need to compare to make sure it makes a real difference. If you have a friend with the same machine and less RAM, that would make it clear. @@RamalMedia

Uff another idiotic video. Ifwe all have money, we can hire you to edit our videos. Use this formula and thank me later. ____ 4GB * number of cpu cores + 20 GB = Total ram required for multiple frame rendering in AE For m3 max : 16 cores * 4GB + 20 = 84 , nearest ram available: 96 GB RAM required. for 8 cores = 64 GB. Balance your ram and CPU accordingly. No need to have 12GB ram when you have only 4 cores available that can max out at 32 GB, rest is waste of money.

@@ia6980 EXR is a file format with a 32-bits luminance and color depth. we render de EXR files through 3d softwares, like: blender, cinema 4d, maya, 3ds max etc. and it is a very VERY heavy file. cuz we have several render passes "layers" inside of it. Let's supposedly bring 1 animation of 100 frames, with 08 render passes/layers on it. Per frame, we wil have a 100gb PER FILE/FRAME. bro... My pc has 128gb of RAM, my after effects when I'm compositing some renders consumes like 115gb... is crazy! Thats why My comment was that one. On the content creator case, off course he dont need that macbook. BUT I NEED MORE lmao.
