A small tip: in chrome enable the 2023 ui refresh (the icons are much cleaner lol) and set your theme to tokyonight. Really gets the aesthetic going

what ya recommend? The 14" or 16" mac with M3 MAX, 36gb ram and 1Tb drive? How is the 14" over the 16" as far as taking out to coffee shops etc for developing when not at home able to connecting it to an external screen?

I actually got MacBook Air m2 with 16gb ram since late of July and I feel like it was the best value of money for a new product and not refurbished… I do coding and heavy browsing (chrome) due to extensions and many tabs with tools open at the same time + 5-8 native apps at the same time… Usually my ram is at 12-14 out of the available 16 gb ram… I don’t use any video editing apps… So far I had no issues, no lag and super speed on everything. Also having 15 inch is so rewarding for my eyes (upgrading from 13 inch), even if I have an external monitor… For me that’s the perfect choice, as if you decide to go for the 14 inch m3 and 16 gb of ram, then there is a definitely gap in pricing, which I don’t feel like that it will get justified by the hz and the fan… Maybe I’m wrong… I haven’t decided yet… If it was the m3 pro version for that price, I would definitely reconsider that…

How much storage are you using? The reason for the price gap is due to the screen which has increased brightness, sharpness, OLED like panel, higher refresh rate, much much more ports, more powerful chip, better speakers and lastly the fan as you mentioned which can be really useful for more graphical tasks

Don’t buy a g14, although they are very good performance wise, they won’t last you more than 2 years.

Precisely what I needed

It was the other way around when M2 MacBook Air was launched and targeted programmers. It said good-bye to MacBook Pro. For me, my choice after knowing a device can do my computing needs the form factor comes next. The thinner and lighter the device the better.

no matter the platform, 8gb RAM is not enough, 256gb of storage too, I bought a m1 air, I work with docker, flutter, python(pycharm) with a second monitor, there so much usage of swap memory, it kills your ssd, so always get the 16gb ones. I also almost filled 256gb in like 3 months, I was forced to use some tool to free some space

Just image your mac with the tools/apps needed. Alternative would be scripts to pull dotfiles and other dev tools too.

Does the lid stick to its top case once you open it in the morning making a sticky sound, for example, as it was on previous 14 inch macs? It makes some noise and i'm currently having the second one which is m1 pro, does it make some light sound (not related to the previous question) when adjusting the screen (opening) move back and forward and it makes a little click sound, does it happen on the 3rd gen (m3 pro)?

Assuming next year I get this laptop for 1250 dollars and I have the option to choose between this and the M2 MacBook Pro 13 inch for 750 dollars, would the stretch be worth it? I would use the laptop for 2 years and pass it to my dad who would do trading. I would swap this and get an M(x) max series chip because I know my workflow will change with videography and AI Model training 2 years down the line. What do you suggest?

Regardless of swap memory or macOS's/Apple Silicon's outstanding memory management, selling a "Pro" device that costs over $1500 with 8GB RAM is horrendous. Even a 2013 MacBook Pro came with 8GB RAM as stock along with the 256GB storage option, and over 10 years later, a "Pro" MacBook's base RAM hasn't gone up?

I kinda think 16gb if a must specially for ML stuff. In my tests I'm purely reviewing base models but once you start loading up the air in terms of RAM, Itll definitely help you out more... (when it comes to just work)

64 + 1TB, 16 CPU cores, 40 GPU cores, I see fans kick up when temp at around 50, I am using Macs Fan Control. But it's like 2-3000 RPM, cannot hear anything.@@MadLadsAnonymous

Hello, I am a computer science student and I am entering my final 2 years of university, but I need to change my PC fairly quickly. However, I'm not sure which MacBook Air to choose between the M1, M2, or M3, and I'm undecided on whether to go for a base model or one with more RAM and storage for my development tools (Eclipse/IntelliJ, VSCode, Docker, Android Studio, etc.). Ignore the M1. Find a good deal on an M2 with upgraded RAM. It’ll be less than an M3 and provide you with 98% of the same experience. Unless money is no object, then upgrade a brand new M3. It’ll last you the longest
