Morse is charming, compassionate, empathic, and elegant! Lewis is down to earth, charming, respectful, and intelligent! I love both these characters and the actors that portray them!
So refreshing to clear my viewing palate with a re-watch of this episode of Morse, after suffering through "Bancroft." Morse and Lewis - sterling examples of real English detectives in the grand tradition of British crime stories.
I’m 83 . This is the best series i have ever seen. I can’t stop watching it over and over!

It was one of my parents couldn't miss programs too...Dad had the VCR already and waiting...set with date/time for taping...so, whether they missed it or not, they could watch it again through the week....and then a few years later....Lewis.....LOL
The women who plays the Mother is in many British Mysteries. I really like her. This series is fantastic! I’m watching threw…..❤
Thanks for uploading. Best series ever!!! I keep on watching it over and over again. Great John Thaw. Excellent Kevin Whately. Loved the series he starred some few years later after John Thaw died. Thanks again.
The more I watch these old episodes the more I appreciate the pathos Thaw creates with this character, it is really true art, he gives Morse such human dimension, it really makes these otherwise tepid sodden English Crime tropes bloom anew.
Excellent as always, John Thaw and Kevin Whateley what a duo, love all the Morse episodes and Lewis too! I have watched them over and over, this one got missed somehow, so thank you for the upload 😍
I never missed an episode of Morse. John Thaw was an excellent actor and every episode was as brilliant as next. He could be a miserable old bugger though and always gave poor Lewis a hard time. Thanks for uploading

Sky…Morse was a character in himself…and JohnThaw as the creator of this deeply insightful person, deserves a second, third watch! First it is the story itself and the rest just to watch him act. There is a saying that you can make a TV actor out of a thespian abut cannot do the reverse. He was a thespian, first, so he knows about delivery (utmost in drama/theater).
I miss Morse. May he rest in peace. Also fun to see a young Dr. Martin. I've always liked Lewis, he is so young in this.

"there are more than just Guardian readers out there " Love it. And WOW -- Rupert Graves being the little shoe-crud of a reporter!! And the GREAT Anna Massey. This series is simply to die for . . .
I remember watching this series in the 1970s? How great it was then. Brilliant entertainment. Feel so lucky to have found this. Thanks

I have explored Morse, Lewis and Hathaway and Morse is something completely special. As if he were leaning into the world of people and criminals from above. A noble man, marveling at evil and yet full of understanding. I like Mr Endeavour Morse.

GRACIAS POR SUBIR ESTA SERIE, OPTIMA CALIDAD! Y EN ESTA OCASION TUVE UNA BUENA EXPERIENCIA CON LOS SUBTITULOS DE Y.TUBE, FUERON ALTAMENTE PRECISOS.
The great and memorable Morse, portrayed by the great and memorable John Thaw (big fan here), is one of the best characters and detectives, ever. I love, this series, (as well as Whately's 'Inspector Lewis'). Anna Massey played the mother/'birthday girl', yes? I remember her as the murder victim in Hitchcock's 'Frenzy'. Good movie, that. Thanks for the upload.
I never saw this episode before. Thanks for uploading this gem!
Rupert Graves, as gorgeous as he is, is the perfect weasel rag sheet reporter in this episode. What a wonderful actor he is. And still gorgeous some twenty-five years later. I do believe he can make any character he plays utterly normal and yet compelling.

Have you ever known a journalist or reporter? Of course there are those who invent stories or who intentionally twist the truth to fit their employers' views, but that isn't journalism. Tabloids ('National Enquirer', for example) & some television & internet sources that present themselves as sources that report the news but which actually present reports that are intentionally distorted to reflect a particular point of view (such as Fox, which is an entertainment corp., not a news agency) are not representative of legitimate journalists. Also, there is a major difference between editorials & news reports-- journalists & reporters who present their (or their employers') point of view are often mistaken for news reporters by viewers who don't recognize the difference, which has become less clear than it was in the days when newspapers & TV news programs made it very clear when an editorial was being given. Also, the paparazzi who chase sensational stories are not considered journalists. The pair shown hounding Morse in this program were paparazzi. Respectable journalists don't do that. A respectable journalist might push sources for more information, making them uncomfortable, but hounding sources at home or at work like these two did is disrespectable. Those in this program were trying to stir up trouble & cause a sensation, to make a scandal & make money off it. Of the journalists I've known, at least one did risk her life to investigate & report on illegal activities by the warden & staff at a state prison, which included severe abuse of female prisoners over a period of many years-- the investigative journalist repeatedly risked her life to uncover the truth, in an effort to help change these horrific conditions, & when she got too close to exposing the head warden she almost paid with her life. Other journalists I've known were involved in reporting less dangerous stories but they were no less intent on finding out & reporting real news, not fake or sensationalistic material. They all had degrees in journalism & worked for reputable agencies which expected that.

@@janegarner6739 I have known and have had to work with dozens of them, both print and broadcast. With few exceptions they are arrogant, judgmental, smug, lying pricks and prickettes. They wear their pathetic personal agendas like glittering crowns, and follow each other off of cliffs. They pose as society's saviors, when in fact they have nothing but contempt for most people. They have no respect for anyone who disagrees with them, or even politely begs to differ. They are increasingly bitter because they have chosen a profession that is circling the drain, which makes them even more vicious. And they have been thoroughly brainwashed by the journalism "schools." But you just go on believing what heroes they are. That is what they want you to believe.

Morse was great, the story lines were great, the acting was great. Pity that every Superintendent had to be depicted as an egocentric imbecile. I am sure the British police deserved better.

It was fun seeing a young Martin Clunes!

The professor Masterson (Ralph Nossek) friend of Morse appears also in the first episode of A Touch of Frost (Care and protection).
Exquisite 👍👍. Thank you 😊
What a treat . A young man actor who will become Doc Martin, and a most interesting actress, I know her as Honoria, from Midsomer Murders, written in Blood. Plus Inspector Japp from Poirot as a lab swell. wowser...Fascinating plot, Thank you for sharing it. EXCELENTE !!!!
Excelente episodio, me encanta!!!
👍👌👏 Simply fantastic! Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this great series episode. Best regards, luck and health.

Anna Massey, daughter of renowned Canadian actor Raymond Massey and niece of Governor General Vincent Massey of Canada. She has appeared on Midsomer Murders as well. Written in Blood, Season 1, Episode 2. Miss her. RIP Anna.
Rupert Graves plays a right and proper ponce, isn’t he?
Jessica is portrayed by Charlotte Coleman who also played the adorable, ditzy redhead in Four Weddings And A Funeral. What a superb actress she is! One instantly relates to her spontaneous reality.

Alun Armstrong was the young barman who was badly beaten up and shouted out in the Newcastle pub, "is there a MR. The composition just perfect, keeping the rhythm of journey in harmony all the way.
