M113 - M113 MODERNIZATION

The sustainability solution meets all of the M113 Family of Vehicles for mobility upgrades with the only differences in the specific mission modules required by a variant to meet its mission. Therefore, M113 variants will all be based on a common mobility platform providing significant saving in logistics such as spare parts inventories and a common maintenance policy.

    Was in the Cavalry as a driver in Aussie Army (Reserves). Loved the old M113A1 to bits. Ended up as a Crew Commander in the "Buckets" as they were commonly known. Still look back & think of those years driving the M113's as some of my fondest years in the Cav. ...Definitely more fun Driving, than commanding.

    Needed updating. Good and dependable. Had an 2Lt. Constantly bringing his track in bitching about performance. Told him to get in. Took it out on drivers testing course. Max safe speed for course was 25 mph. I ran it at about 35 to 40 mph. With all the wild curves, dips and drops I could hear him through my headset screaming hysterically. At the end of the course I pulled back as quick and hard as I could almost standing that bad boy on its nose. I know he crapped himself. He went to the First Sargent complaining, I got called in . Being Top knew I can't stand bullshit he glazed over my collection of DD 2404's and log books on the vehicle. He winked at me and replied " Well sir, after all these complaints I see his team did a hell of a job properly repairing your vehicle. There was never nothing wrong with it. He was a back seat driver who constantly pissed his driver off who in turn did everything possible to avoid having to tote this butter bar around. This Lt. was transferred to the Redeye platoon where he complained about his jeep. So, we kept it on constant deadline status and he was stuck riding in a truck while we had the luxury of using his jeep to buzz about the field and base. Moral of the story is you don't screw with your maintenance team they can make your life miserable. Oh and after they started putting M151A2's with that antipollution bullshit in use they ruined a fine lightweight vehicle. Out of all the vehicle types I had driven the M113 was the most fun to drive.

    Got badly hurt when sniper shot driver, APC went out of control and rolled over. We were sitting on top and dove inside. The weakest point of the 113 is the underbelly. A land mine would kill everyone inside so everyone always rode on top. That’s why you always see people on top when you see videos or pictures of 113’s in combat. I hope they strengthen the underneath.

    Scovserb curmudgeon, so you think that Craig Smith is lying about the vulnerabilities of the M113? It’s history goes pre-Vietnam usage by the US and it has always been a mine blast victim. Name troops who were mechanized habitually rode on top due to a weak belly. Also the early ones were gasoline powered rather the later diesel ones, and always burned to the ground when hit by a RPG. It’s aluminum armor would melt into a huge molten pool.

    In Switzerland we were one of the first countries to have bought the M113,1380, in all. Edit by our tank factories in Thun, already to make them more reliable, and more draw, but it's a real sink! In the year 2000 we use them as a training target. So for 10 years we have changed to buy CV90 Swedish, really great troop transport, very reliable, and switchable in different versions!

Hope they really change to a track assembly that won't break as easily. Please make a better crew heater. Was constantly repairing those heaters. @Adecodoo The whole battle taxi concept never worked out as mechanized infantry would prefer better armed and armored vehicles. Troops would rather sit on top and then sandbag the hell out of the insides for fear of mines. So much for shrapnel and small arms protection. So for carrying infantry it's both outclassed by IFVs in a conventional war and by MRAPs in an asymmetrical one. But it's so versatile that countries with limited defense budgets could always get good value out.

  • @majungasaurusaaaa

    @majungasaurusaaaa

    4 жыл бұрын

    @Adecodoo It didn't work out for the M113. The fact that they had to develop IFVs for conventional warfare means mech inf would much rather have that. The Bradley was the replacement for the M113 for mech inf. In that case it's not apples and oranges. The M113 couldn't keep up with armor nor was it protective enough. The whole APC concept lost out on IFVs. Newer APCs they just make them wheeled and thinly armored. They're clearly not designed to accompany main battle tanks. "Moving men around in a safe zone" is not "battle taxi", it's just "taxi". The M113 is still used world wide because it's cheap and versatile, not because it's actually good at anything. Troops hate how it's a coffin on tracks. And sending men to their deaths to save a few bucks is not acceptable in modern day political climate.

  • @majungasaurusaaaa

    @majungasaurusaaaa

    4 жыл бұрын

    @Adecodoo It's biggest strength is also its biggest weakness, being a pretty bad jack of all trades. Many troops would prefer not riding in this aluminum coffin at all, walking and sitting on top of a heavily sandbagged one was indeed safer. Mech Inf's job is to keep up with armored thrusts. An APC can't do that because of lack of protection and in the case of the m113 horsepower as well. Cost is not a reasonable excuse in today's political climate. It's obsolete the moment better vehicles were designed to fill specific roles. It has no place in a well equipped modern military. www.benning.army.mil/armor/earmor/content/issues/2016/JAN_MAR/1Nuckols-Cameron16.pdf It's even a liability today in other utility niches. It's all cool on paper when you say you're not gonna get shot at. But the enemy has a vote. Israeli troops flat out refused to enter the Gaza in the m113 after a bunch of them got killed in one. You seem to judge that thing on the conventional war in europe that never happened. I judge it on Vietnam and the Middle East. Get this thing out of service ASAP!

    Muy bueno eo video. Esto es lo que tenìa que hacer el ejército español..la dotacion de M113 es muy importante..de verdad que con el bajo presupuesto en defensa se España y con lo que cuesta un vehìculo nuevo como el Toro , no se pueden modernizar??, no lo entiendo ..Israel los ha modenizado y los sigue utilizando..no en primera línea pero si como ambulancia, puesto de mando..comunicaciones..vigilancia de bases..no hay mucho sentido comun entre la alta oficialidad española..tambien Canadá y Australia los ha modernizado..HAY QUE APRENDER!!!!!!

    Neden biz geri kalmışız diye sorup duruyorlar. Soracaklarına biraz defter, kitap okusalar iş kendiliğinden çözülecek sanırdık eskiden ama öyle olamayacağı şu dumur eden yorum ile insanın yüzüne şamar gibi çarpıyor. Videodaki üretim tesisi FNSS'nin BAE'ndeki ortak girişimine ait. TAI yada diğer adı TAI ilk kurulduğunda da (1984) ABD'li General Electric ile ortak kurulmuş, fabrika duvarlarındaki yazılar da Türkçe idi. Hiç bir amerikalı da çıkıp; "Neden bazı ayerlerde Türkçe yazıyor" diye zırıldamadı. Yazının şekli şemali üretim tesisi hakkında öyle sizin zırvaladığınız gibi kesin bilgiler içermez. BAE'nde, BAE'li bir firma aile ortak üretim tesisi kurmuş iseniz, neden fabrikanın duvarında Arapça yazılar var diye zırlamanın da bir alemi yok. Ne yani, Çince mi yazacaklardı fabrika duvarlarına ? "Tank- palet fabrikasının satılması" martavalınızda ayrı bir hikâye. Satılan bir şey ortada yok. Üzerinize oturduğunuz o koca organelinizi büyüteceğinize azıcık kafa çalıştırıp, birazda "gerçekler nedir" acaba diye merak ederek, "gerçek" bilgileri verenleri takip etseydiniz, Tank-palet fabrikasının ARAPLARA değil, bir Türk firması/markası olan BMC'ye, 25 yıllığına, SATILMADIĞINI, kiralandığını çözebilirdiniz (BMC şirket hisselerinin %25.1’i Öztürk Ailesi’nin; %25’i Ethem Sancak’ın; geriye kalan %49.9’u ise Katar Silahlı Kuvvetlerinin). TAI'ninde %46.2'si ABD'li General Electric'e ait, yakında adı MİLLİ MUHARİP UÇAK olan kendi uçağımızı yapacaklar, o zamanda çıkıp zırıldanacak mısınız merak ederiz. Adında olduğu gibi asıl görevi Tank-Palet üretmek olan fabrikanın bu güne kadar hiç bir tank üretmediğini bilseydiniz (hazır parçaları alıp birleştirmek tank üretmek değildir, öyle saçmalıkları umarım buraya cevap olarak girmezsiniz), BMC'ye yapılan kiralama ile buraya gerçek manada bir TANK ÜRETİM hattının kurulacağını, 25 Yıllık kiralama sonunda da, bu GERÇEK TANK ÜRETİM hattının bedava olarak T.C Devletine kalacağınıda bilebilirdiniz. T.C Devletinin acil olarak bir ana muharebe tankına ihtiyacı var, ancak devlet bütçesinin böyle bir ihtiyaca yönelik yatırımı yapabilecek maddi olanakları kısıtlı. Parası yok değil, kısıtlı. Buraya böylesine bir yatırım yapılsa bu defa başka elzem bir savunma sanayii ihtiyacını karşılayamayacak. Misal, TFX uçağına para ayıramayacak. Ayrıca devletin kurduğu fabrikalarda çalışanların %99,999'u amiyane tabiri ile torpil vasıtası işe girer, işe girince yan gelip yatar, 82 milyonun parasını hortumlar, hiç bir icraatte bulunmaz. Çok merak ediyorsanız bakın bakalım bu güne kadar kurulmuş hangi devlet kurumu bir icatta bulunmuş, memleketin hangi derdine bir derman geliştirmiş, bize nasıl milyarlarca gelir getirmiş. Bulursanız bizimle de paylaşın cehaletimiz gitsin biraz.
