To me spending 3K is not much different than 4.5K. Both prices are over budget. So I got 16" M1 Max, 2TB, 64GB. This gives me peace of mind as spending 3K and not getting it all gives me stress.

When things were at their very worst: 2 Suns, Cross in the sky, 2 comets will collide = don`t be afraid - repent, accept Lord`s Hand of Mercy. Scientists will say it was a global illusion. Beware - Jesus will never walk in flesh again. After WW3 - rise of the “ man of peace“ from the East = Antichrist - the most powerful, popular, charismatic and influential leader of all time. Many miracles will be attributed to him. He will imitate Jesus in every conceivable way. Don`t trust „pope“ Francis = the False Prophet - will seem to rise from the dead - will unite all Christian Churches and all Religions as one. One World Religion = the seat of the Antichrist. Benedict XVI is the last true pope - will be accused of a crime of which he is totally innocent. Great video and great advice. No have the M1 MBP, and I replaced an XPS 15 w/64 GB RAM with it, and got better results for my mostly productivity related workload (MS Office, browsing, Camtasia). The 16GB unified RAM is insane on that. So I ordered the baseline model, and will use an external SSD if I need it for more storage. Your video made me feel good about my choice, since you gave a lot of good info. Well researched and delivered. Thanks!

I wonder if there's a possibility that the higher number of cores will reduce battery life? Especially on the 14" model. If you see the footnote on Apple's website it says that the 17h battery life was tested on the 8-core 14" model - so I wonder if bumping it up to 10-core will make the battery life worse? Or does it actually make it better by any chance!?

Ordering the M1 Max with 32GB or 64GB of RAM. These Macbooks are going to last for long time. I think camera manufacturers will now be able to push higher frame rates and higher resolutions going forward. I think it is best to future proof it for 5-6 years. The m1 MacBook air really already served most people. These new models are definitely overkill for most people and are really meant for those who plan on using these laptops on a daily basis with a slight emphasis on heavier workloads. Having that said I definitely agree that most people don’t need anything more than the base model 16 inch and 14 inch. Only exception is the 16 inch 24 core option where you can potentially get better cooling, more ram and better gpu performance but at that point that is over $3000

Y'all got your comments and the graphic on "SSD Caching" mixed up. The "Cached Files" you were pointing to is actually files from the SSD that are cached in main memory for faster access. The "Swap used" right below it data from main memory temporarily moved to the SSD to free up RAM for application use. I also wouldn't call it "SSD Caching" because it isn't really caching, it's swapping which is a different thing all together and in fact can be considered almost the inverse of caching.

This is a very comprehensive guide! My friends and I have been working in the tech industry for a while and one of us even works on evaluating CPU performance for a big tech company. Our buying decision generally agrees with yours. I only want to add that most of us opted for the M1 Max with 24 GPU cores on the 14inch with 32GB of unified memory instead of the 16inch because we value the smaller and compact design. Most of us have a main desktop or server for more intensive workload so 14inch M1 Max with 32GB of unified memory is more than enough to cover office communication, entertainment, graphics works, and gaming. Speaking of gaming, I understand there is Rosetta, Steam on Mac and Crossover but not every game we play is supported. For example, we could not even get the gg launcher to work for Witcher 3 and CyberPunk using Crossover. I would definitely opt for the 32-core GPU M1 Max if Apple has better gaming support, but in reality, they are not there yet.
