I love your videos! Just ordered the M1 iPad pro, the 11” model in 128gb. I’m awaiting shipping and excited! I exchanged my iPad Air 4, which I really loved, but I wanted the pro. I could only afford the 128gb version, and I’m hoping it’ll be enough storage. I don’t do video work, just some Lightroom photo editing, some light procreate drawing, document and email writing, playing games and content consumption/ streaming. My previous iPad was the 256gb air, and it had a ton of apps, bunch of games, and a LOT of photos and I only used like 60 gigs or so, so fingers crossed I’ll be fine at 128. They need to offer the air in 128. Glad it was available for the pro. Thanks again for the great videos.

So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.

I believe the amount of layers you can use depend on the RAM capacity of the iPad you're using. Both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch 2021 models have the same storage capacity/RAM capacity as each other. The 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB models all have 8GB of RAM. The 1TB and 2TB models all have 16GB of RAM. You should check the App Store for the latest update notes from the developer of the app that you use to see if they specify any specific optimizations for the new 2021 models. For any artist or video editor, I say go with any 1TB or 2TB model for the 16GB of RAM alone. It can definitely help to "future-proof" your purchase. Keep in mind that the Mini LED LCD panel is only available on the 12.9-inch 2021 iPad Pro.

Great review, as always, Brad. At first, I was going to take your advice and stay with my 2018 12.9" iPad Pro. Then I visited my local Apple Store to compare the 2018 with the 2021 model. There is a BIG difference in the displays. The brightness on the 2021 is outstanding. The whites are whiter and the blacks are darker (sounds like a laundry detergent commercial) and I really don't notice much of a drop-off at the edges. It is very faint. Perhaps it's a matter of only some units having that as a problem. Overall, I felt it was worth the cost for an upgrade, especially as Apple is offering me $535 for a trade-in on the 2018 model. Checking on eBay, after eBay & Paypal fees, I wouldn't net much more than that anyway. Certainly worth the $700 for the upgrade.

At the beginning of the year (end of January) I invested in an iPad Pro 2021 (12‘9 inch, 512gb) with the Apple Pencil and I bought procreate. That was the first ever apple device I ever got and I never understood the hype about the ipad, Apple Pencil and procreate but now I do! It is the best drawing experience I ever had, the Apple Pencil is just so amazing and I‘m still so in love with this baby. I never want to go back. Its definitely worth it.

I'll upgrade my Ipad when Apple makes a new pencil. The jump between 1 and 2 was the biggest game changer for me 😂

Me watching this who is just trying and slightly failing at saving for a normal iPad, I bought an Apple Pencil for drawing but it only works with my school iPad that I have to give back in 2 months. As a 14 year old student this is gonna be hard. But gotta say this review is always good, I love it!

aaa thank you so much! I was waiting for your review. I just wanna say goodbye to the layer limit in procreate XD I'm really hoping the M1 gives me more flexibility there. I have the Pro from 2 generations ago and I'm looking forward to something new! Edit: Just got to the part where you go over the layers!!! I am so excited to double my RAM and get soooo many layers!

I ALWAYS put a screen protector on my iPads and my Cintiqs for the SAME hatred-of-the-feel-of-glass reason - however, hearing that Paperlike sound in your video, I will bookmark this page and buy my Paperlike protector when my iPad Pro 12.9 comes... Thanks!

I’m still more than happy with the 2018 model I’m typing this on, it can even handle running my KZread channel. The limitations for the last few years have really been software based, and like you say this extra hardware bump might encourage Apple and developers to rethink what an iPad can be. Give me better file management and the ability to work off an SSD and I might not even need to invest in a laptop later in the year.

Thank you, you answered my burning question! I love my 2018 iPad Pro… but Procreate is limited to 27 x 27” @ 300dpi as it’s max with 4 layers… Which is great, but I use it to hand retouch files for large format printing at larger sizes, so I have to work on small pieces at a time… which is fine… But if I had, say, 42 x 42” @300dpi with 4 layers I would be cookin with gas!

Hey guys please keep in mind you can buy the Paperlike protectors on Aliexpress for a couple of bucks. They are exactly the same. Keep in mind shipping may take a few weeks. Keep in mind that they ever so gently distort the image (whether is the Paperlike product or something from eBay or Ali - they are the same). I have tested these things...they are an acquired taste.

Great video as always. Have you thought about reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Book 360 Laptop? I always prefer to see artist's reviews when it comes to tech that allows you to draw on it given that other tech reviwers don't focus on that aspect.

Ha! I see that you have the same issue I had: when adding subtitles (like at 2:13), Premiere (or some other video rendering software) does a full render of the frame, that's causing different lighting/coloring conditions. I solved that by switching from hardware to software rendering, but that's just a bypass, not a real solution.

That XDR screen… The Verge raved so much more and, eloquently so, comparing it to the $6,000 Pro Display. I’m surprised you did not linger longer on the amazement, instead of focusing on the minor edge shadowing.

Best review thank you! * Is it a big deal that it has a bit of shadow around the edges? Got a bit worried about that ** As well as the added thickness, is it obvious when drawing? *** And the last question, does the 0.5mm added thickness help reduce apple pencils impact on the screen when comparing both 2020 and 2021 iPads?

Lol very informative video for a creative bro! One thing, I noticed you had a type in your description: "Apple has popped the same M1 processors they have been using on their new Macs into this this and light tablet." I think you meant to say "thin" but you ended up saying "this this" twice. -Jack
