James Newton Howard creates music for the soul. I can't explain, but these soundtracks with Night, are pure magic. I really hope they will team up once again, for Night's upcoming project. Split.

Your first sentence I agree with completely. And a peak in this was reached with "Hand of Fate 1 and 2" from "Signs". But I prefer the idea that the compositions are blessed (by the Holy Spirit) than that they are magic...

James Newton Howard has this special sense of raw tenderness in his music that no other composer has. Indeed, Snow Falling on Cedars is one of the greatest soundtracks of all time imho. And his works here with Shyamalan are also excellent too of course :)

The moment I saw it was JNH & Shyamalan movies, I immediately gave the video a thumbs up because I know how amazing and beautiful the music is. I never noticed the music in Unbreakable at first but it’s been upon further viewings that I’ve come to really appreciate it and same goes for The Village. Signs & Lady… were both scores I loved from the word Go. Lastly, does anyone else feel like Unbreakable, Village & Lady… all have a medieval, renaissance, fantasy, King Arthur-ish sound? I’ve had this opinion for years.

I'm extremely familiar with the "Signs" soundtrack, but I don't know the music from The Sixth Sense or Unbreakable at all. So the moment when it went from music I DON'T recognize to music I DO recognize was really cool, because the transition was very smooth and seamless. Cool stuff!

I am in just the same situation, and I notice that the music immediately preceding "Signs" is not so far off from that of "Signs" itself, but the majesty of the latter is on a different level. This is important to me, as I believe that, while most JNH music is beautiful, and while all of it has genius in it, only the music from "Signs" has the Holy Spirit, operating in the real world for us, even as it accompanies the enlightenment towards God's plan that affects Father Graham Hess and his family. So "Hand of Fate 1 and 2" offers an experience on a different, transcending, divinely-inspired level; even as that fits in very brilliantly and beautifully against the composer's overall (undoubted and huge) skill... The music from the other films may be sad, sad and beautiful, nostalgic, grand, uplifting, inspiring in so many ways, but the music from "Signs" is what can transform us AT THE MOMENT it comes to us - past and present, burden and baggage, longing, do not matter to it, and it is beyond happy-sad as the Gate is there to the realm of truth and love and inspiration and meaning...

The main words you need are ... Holy Spirit Inspirer of transcending art. Of course this is primarily true of the music from Signs ... which is a sign. But there is great power in the Unbreakable music too, and I am not quite sure why that would be (bought the three movies recently to check it out).

Can't thank the Holy Spirit enough for His enigmatic love of inspiring human beings in divine creativity that helps pull back the veil just a little. So we see the sheer wonder that can, should be and is ours, with, through and thanks to the Creator, the beloved Saviour and the Advocate-Counsellor-Paraclete...

Always believed that the Hand of Fate 1 and 2 was the most transcending of all He achieved (and indeed it achieves the greatest divine magnificence), but 5:30 seems to "prepare the way" in a manner that instantly brings tears... SO beautiful, so far beyond... [This in fact accompanies the asthma attack - in the movie "Signs", and it contrasts Graham's hatred of God and faith in his own powers as a father with the religious faith of brother Merrill].

One universal question... WHY DID JAMES NEWTON HOWARD STOP DOING MUSIC FOR SHAMALAN AFTER 2016?!

It doesn't seem like they were particularly happy working with each other. There's not alotta great stories out there about Shyamalan so I wouldn't be surprised if they kept going back to each other mainly because it made both of their careers just that much better.

To be honest, M.K.S almost certainly had nothing to do with composing this music. . His best of all that I have heard is the Keanu Reeves-Al Pacino film. One of the best 'albums' I've ever owned.
