Marlena is their muse, essentially the personification of inspiration. It's like a lover that they have in common. In this video you can see her being intimate with each of the band members, but she always ends up leaving them because inspiration is a fleeting thing by nature. That's what the song is about. Damiano is lamenting the distance that separates him from his muse, his creativity. At the end of the video they go outside to look for her. Without Marlena they are lost, and they won't return until she takes them "back home". Notice the contrast between the worm, colored interior of the house against the cold, grey look of the outside which is supposed to represent "winter". The song "Torna a Casa" is about the same theme.

I keep coming back to the older, Italian songs of the band because I feel that the new English never matched the level of lyricism and heartfeltness. I very much hope they don't think the international success doesn't allow them to write and perform in their native language anymore and will have some more Italian songs. It's just such a beautiful language and perfectly matches the melody and atmosphere of many of the songs.

Because of story, I think. The lyrics describe the suffering due to the distance that is created in a couple relationship that is now tired, worn, almost lost. It talk about mistakes, bitter tears, and all those typical feelings of the epilogue of a love story. These are situations that, for better or worse, we have all lived, in which we can easily identify with.

Like air you'll breathe me On the day I'm hiding you In phrases you won't hear Because your mistake was loving me as if Tomorrow the world would be the same as yesterday Now let me believe that this is real Because I feel the anxiety that rises, I drink the bitter tears Please let me lose myself in the water of the sea Because the distant words, I swear I want to shout them Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away Time will burn all paper that mentions you You'll cry with me under the sun, then it'll pour down To carry away the probably useless sentences We'll sing together, but remaining silent Now, take me home because the winter scares me, and my legs are giving up. You can't see how much I'm freezing. Marlena, take me home because you smile is wonderful But you know that if I lose you, I'll never walk a metre again. Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away Like air you'll breathe me On the day I'm hiding you In phrases you won't hear

Disclaimer: I am Italian and I also love the English language, actually I work with this language because i live in the UK. Thanks to Måneskin the world is finally discovering the Italian music, so we cannot hide anymore our beautiful treasures. Will the English dominance in music fade someday? I don’t know but for sure the curiosity for this language spoken only by 60 millions inside in a little boot surrounded by the sea and few other countries is raising and you can tell that if you check KZread reactions to Italian music made even more than 50/60 years ago (Luca...). Also it look like Italian is the fourth most studied language in the world. By the way I give you a typical example how a beautiful voice in Italian can produce a stunning melody, this is not rock like Måneskin but very classy pop: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qHiVtpuLpsquoLw.html

So you can just enjoy the music and not be focused on the lyrics.

**LYRICS** Like air you'll breathe me On the day I'm hiding you In phrases you won't hear Because your mistake was loving me as if Tomorrow the world would be the same as yesterday Now let me believe that this is real Because I feel the anxiety that rises, I drink the bitter tears Please let me lose myself in the water of the sea Because the distant words, I swear I want to shout them Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away, far away from me Because I feel you far away Time will burn all paper that mentions you You'll cry with me under the sun, then it'll pour down To carry away the probably useless sentences We'll sing together, but remaining silent Now, take me home because the winter scares me, and my legs are giving up.

I am here because I needed a good cry and this song never fails. This was the second song of theirs I fell in love with after discovering Coraline, and the first one I learned the lyrics by heart (without not knowing very much Italian). I'm afraid this will be a diamond that gets buried under their rockier sound and new music - but I hope that the day will come when they want to revisit the gentler side of their first album and play it to us international fans. Må, thank you for the beauty of the words, the music that makes my heart sing. And cry. "Canteremo insieme, ma restando muti."

Small story that might get lost in the comment section, but I'm going to write it anyway: As a Greek born in Italy but raised completely in Greece, I always felt a strong connection with Italian culture. I started studying the language when I was 8, now I'm 23 and fluent (well, almost fluent since I haven't practiced my language skills in 2 years). Took a trip to Italy when I was 15 and I wish I had stayed there. Everyone around me kept telling me I was obsessed without a reason. After watching the Maneskin effect growing strong during and after the Eurovision days, I suddenly had a feeling of justice - people obsessing with an objectively amazing Italian band and wanting to study Italian made me feel less alone than ever. As for the song, amazing as always (my personal favourite of theirs).

You're not alone! I'm Greek too and always found the Italian culture and language really appealing. My mom lived there for several years as a child so she can speak Italian, which always made me want to learn it too. Maneskin reminded me of that love, their Italian songs just carry a different kind of power. Le parole lontane was the first one that stuck with me, definitely a favourite ❤️
