This is one of those special songs that came from left field... one of those voices you just can't help but pay attention to. The production is so unique. The song structure is unique too... the entire song is made of little mini-hooks. I always Love to hear artists who try different formats instead of following the popular song structures.

I found that song by The Clash... I always like to hear the originals, to hear where people are sampling things from. I still say that M.I.A. did something very unique with her vocals... and the overall structure of the song is still impressive to me.

@evov monbly She says herself it's about stereotypes of immigrants taking over jobs etc when moving. She uses these stereotypes in her songs. Paper planes refers to a Visa. The gunshots refer to her home country violence. She says something like "if it's something I've grown up with and heard all my life then I'm going go use it in my song" (something like that). Apparently shes also been shot at lol

This song was definitely ahead of its time. Not even an exaggeration. The bubble gum chorus sounds like something straight out of 2013. The sound effects come straight out of 2007 but it sounds like something that would have been used ironically in modern day. This song will ALWAYS be iconic
