M-Audio M-Track Solo Audio Interface Review / Explained
Ғылым және технология
Today I walkthrough, explain, and review the M-Audio M-Track Solo. This is a new budget interface at only $50 that rivals the Behringer UM2. The preamp is capable of driving the SM7b for a healthy recording level, it has pretty clean preamps, but it does have limited A/D and D/A converters at 16-bit 48kHz. At $50, it’s still quite impressive.

I have the M-Track Duo and I don't have the gain problem at the very end--it's a consistent increase. I also like how quiet the preamps are relative to many others. However, due to the sample rate, I am going to upgrade at some point. I really enjoy your in-depth reviews and humor. Thanks for doing this video.
Thank you for the review especially for the Latency test !
Thanks for this review. Looking to buy something like this for my daughter so she can play around with her acoustic-electric guitar and add a mic to sing some songs. Appreciate the effort you put into this.

Today I went looking for a USB audio interface. I had the option to get the Behringer. But got the M-track solo instead. Watching your review I am glad that I did. Thank you ❤
Thx for on point review! It’s good no-money investment to play analogue synth with iPad directly, no (other) strings attached. Great they made stereo input for an instrument. BTW, maybe lower computer sound while monitoring “it’s not a bug it’s a feature”, so you could hear monitored signal louder? :)
I found your channel by looking for a a review on the Audio Technica at2020 a couple of days ago, and that convinced me to buy it. Then I found out I needed a audio interface for it (I was too eager and bought it without realizing I needed a xlr cable and a interface). So here I am looking at some interfaces on amazon being bewildered by the prices on these, and imagine my face when I saw you put out a review today of the same cheap interface I was looking at. Both your review on the at 2020 and the M-track were superb, and really made me feel confident and comfortable with what I was looking to purchase. So just want to say thanks for these great reviews! That's my main decision for buying it
I need to learn so much about this hobby. A friend got me this for my birthday since i play guitar. I have 0 clue of most stuff
Fav part of the video is your own recording mix, nice stuff
I bought one (used) today for £23, so got the December 2023 drivers; the input settings in Windows are now offering 16/24/32-bit, all at 48Khz. The input gain dial is giving me a massive leap between 9-10, so I doubt I'd turn up that far with no clip protection. I wish they'd put a simple limiter in the firmware, my Tascam DR70 field recorder has a limiter on all 4 channels.
I have the Scarlett (24 bit) on the booth PC. This will make a good AUX recorder in the den. I'll hopefully avoid the gain-bump. If not, I have a low-noise preamp to dodge the jumpiness. I finally gave up hoping for a low-noise xlr-usb cable..this is the ticket. Thanks for the details. The ultra-low-noise info comes from Julian. Together you guys give the whole picture.
I was literally looking between the Behringer and this last night to get my entry for my electric guitar. Thanks so much and I will definitely use the affiliate when I buy this. Thanks!

What did you have the input gain set to during your guitar audio tests? I heard that some people are getting a whine/squeal noise (ground loop hum?) when the input gain is above 50% with an instrument plugged in. Also, you say it's fine for home recording. But how would it do for something like recording music (hard rock guitar for instance) for a web/tv show soundtrack?

I got the M-Track solo,,,,and the gain-jump was horrific. I had a DBX 286s that wasn't doing anything, so that cures the gain-jump, and this is a good A/D and USB thing. I go straight to the Focusrite in the main booth and post-process in Audacity.

I really like this interface. I just got mine yesterday after watching this video. The latency is really really good And everything works nice and proper. Very solid output for my main speakers, it all seems really great. I had another $50 interface fifine amazon, it was even properly specced for Line In Guitar, it was buzzy, didnt have any software and had 17ms of latency at a 0 Block Size. Same price and the M Audio is a HUGE step up, highly recommend.
A while ago I bought the steinberg ur12 for guitar practice. It clips way too much. Can you recommend an audio interface in the 100-150 range for guitar playing? I'd be using it with amplitude 4/5.
That's some nice down picking action.
I'm no longer recommending either of the el-cheapo Behringers (UM2 & UMC22). I have found a new budget king.
Honestly, if it can power the sm7b like that, I think it's fine. I could barely hear it using my apple "dirty buds", and I think that's gonna be how a lot of people will listen All I would need is post processing, but if I can't hear the noise with my dirty buds, I don't think people will hear the noise with some stream background music.

The jump in gain is interesting.
I don't particularly expect you to update anything on your end, but I've used this device now for about a year and while it worked well initially, over time I've noticed a bunch of crashes and driver issues that my PC has had, including a few bluescreens due to driver issues pointing directly at this. While the device itself may be solid, they do not update or upkeep their drivers which is causing these issues.
You always say to check the doobly do, but I never see anything in the description, lol. I was just curious because my gain has to be set way higher for me to get a decent volume from my mic.

On thomann website it said 24 bit 48 khz, I thought it will an upgrade from um2 since UM2 is only 16 bit.
I have an M-Track Solo and can't find any real gripes. For $50 you know it isn't going to be a Focusrite Scarlett Solo. But for the average podcaster or single-instrument player looking to get sound into their DAW (mine's Reaper), it's a good deal. The 1/8" headphone jack and USB-B screams PC, and the two RCA jacks in the back just beg to be hooked up to your vintage 90's Technics tuner-amp with a set of fat JBL speakers...but that's one of the reasons I bought it. It's plasticky and the knobs are a little wobbly, but it does the trick for cheap
Can you cover things like the digital interference you're talking about. I'm having an issue with my scarlet solo right now and my gut said its interference. but I'm not smart enough to know if its digital interference, electrical or just a noisy mic. any extra knowledge helps. keep the vids coming.

I have a question when you use an interface such as this does it work as the sound card after you hook it up? Or do you still need to use your computer sound card for day-to-day activity
@germanher7528
3 жыл бұрын
It depends, if you plan on never disconnect then you would need to set it as default sound device on your OS (windows) for it to be used by all software, if you don't do that then some software will still use the sound card but some DAWs will pick up this when launched, you also need to specify which driver you will use, for example with FL you can choose between FL ASIO (FL will choose this by default) or ASIO4ALL
