    So nice to hear a clear opinion on the two. I really liked the pike on my old bike, I think it was a bit more supple than my 36. The 36 feels good when you are pushing hard through the rough though. I'd love to try a lyric.

    I love the lyrik ultimate, but the 2021 C1 debonair spring I’m not sold on yet. So if you don’t get along with them you can easily drop the 2020/2019 air spring in and get that ultimate plushness 👌🏽👌🏽. I’ll be spending time on one soon so I’ll have a better idea of the new spring setup in a month or so

  • @mtbtelly5522

    @mtbtelly5522

    4 жыл бұрын

    Cliff J I wont go coil on the front, a well set up air fork is high enough performance to not warrant the extra weight up front. On the rear with the right suspension platform I’d def run a coil, but up front its air all the way. Can fine tune the spring to be exactly the shape and support you want. A coil is likely to be just over or just under what you want support wise because of the big increment difference between springs. I’ve rancoil forks in the past, nothing beats the current Lyrik Ultimate.

    What I found coming from a lyrik to a 36 was that the 36 needs to be set up spot on. And it’s really dependent on where your riding, how fast your riding, how your like it to feel etc. but man when it’s set up right, and especially when riding fast I’m not sure the lyrik can match it. At pace the 36 is unreal. Saying that, when it’s set up for riding fast, it’s terrible at low speeds. So it’s definitely a bit more give and take with the 36. Lyrik is hands down a better all rounder, you can do a lot more with 1 set up.

    Alex Keyes I’m still playing around, but its a little less supple than the dhf maxx grip, a little lighter, and feels a little more responsive and free to move around. Dhf tracks a line better, feels more supple, but maybe is a little less spritely. I reckon i prefer the dhf under heavy brakes as well. But if the exo is undergunned and a thicker casing is required, the DHR2 dh maxx grip is the go I’d say. A little lighter and faster than the dhf dh, more supple casing than the exo and should have all the braking and cornering performance you need.

    Yo Telly, religious follower and fan of your stuff. I recall the Grip 2 video in which you were to take out all the tokens and bump up the air pressure for more support. Do you find this to be true with all forks across the board? Better to tune the air pressure as opposed to getting more ramp up? Let me know your thoughts....I too am not a huge fan of volume spacers and rather have more pressure. Cheers mate!

  • @mtbtelly5522

    @mtbtelly5522

    4 жыл бұрын

    Miguel Navarro it depends on the length of travel and the size of the neg chamber. The old rockshox solo air shaft needed from 2-5 spacers depending on the travel. The new e-vol and debonair springs feel better with less generally to keep the pos to neg ratio right. I did try with no token and more air on my 170 36. I had to run it too high in the sag to get the right support with no token, like close to 10%. I prefer the ride quality of a fork at 15-20% sag so i build the shape of the spring to be the right amount of support at that sag, by adding or taking away spacers.

    Miguel Navarro i try and aim for 15-20% on the fork, any deeper than 20 up front impacts control and precision. Onthe back its usually 28-33% depending on the suspension design, and the optimal ride height for that bike. You basically tune your ride height with spacers

    If you sell your bike every year or two, the Lyrik might be good, you can just pass all the problems onto the new owner. Bladder in the Charger damper need replacing? Oops sorry, new damper time as Rockshox don't sell them or provide them in any service kit. Damage your stanchion and need to replace it? Find another $450 for lower legs as Rockshox don't sell bushings to ensure you've got fresh bushings with a fresh csu that are sized correctly. It pisses me off to no end as the Lyrik (and Pike) feels beautiful and rides so well but the backup support and service part availability from Rockshox is abysmal. Don't get me started on $40 damper shafts not being sold for their rear shocks which require a new shock to be purchased when they wear out, which they will, even quicker with a trunnion mount. At least you can buy the part for a Fox. If your bike comes with Rockshox, fine, but under no circumstance could I ever recommend purchasing it aftermarket until Rockshox brings their spare parts availability up to scratch.

    Oh_Sully ah thats interesting, i never knew they struggled in the spare parts department. I’ve never had a problem with sourcing bits, but never had to replace anything major. Cheers for the info!

    @@mtbtelly5522 I work in the industry so I see more than most, perhaps that biases my judgement, but it's a frustrating phone call to have to make, telling someone their 10 month old Super Deluxe is bin food because Rockshox won't sell a part that Fox sells for $40. It's frustrating because as you conclude, the performance is there. With the DebonAir v3 just being released the forks will get even better thanks to riding a bit higher in the travel and not sagging under just the bikes weight.

    Nah I prefer the original Debonair spring available for the Lyrik, the Zeb is only made with the C1style of air spring. Lyrik all day. Maybe a Zeb if I was 90+ kg, but at 74 the Lyrik is plenty stout enough for my desires

    this is very subjective: I honestly think FOX is way better and you have way more options to play with.

    Yeah but many if not almost all people won't even feel the difference in all those settings. Plus it takes an insane amount of time to set up. It's very subjective

    Cole JH def drop the lowers then. They usually come chocked full of grease on the neg side of the spring. Which makes them pretty shitty. I’ve made a video on it. It makes a big difference for support and suppleness
