it could be that the lightfastness rating makes a difference in price. Lf. tests are expensive and take a long time. even if lyra uses lightfast pigments, without tests you cannot be sure of the lightfastness of final product nor the lf. of the individual stick.

I have had the Lyra for years, they work great for my use…less$$$❤️

This was very interesting. Thank you for sharing your impressions of each pastel and how they compared. I have the Lyra set and enjoyed them, but I’m going to donate them to the local art center. Then I tried the Caran D’Ache Neocolor ii! I fell in love with them! I, first, purchased the colors I liked individually and when I went to see what other colors I liked…🤔 I found I liked them all! 🤣😇 The 84 set was back ordered. I found a new / old, an unopened 126 set! So I ordered it and went to cancel the 84 set. It was already shipped so I couldn’t cancel, not fair to Blick’s. But the prices I paid on each set were unbelievably awesome. I feel very lucky to have them both. Even though the Neocolor’s are “Precious”, I can use them without any “worry or regrets” from using them. I’m an Pen & Ink artist, when adding color to my black and white drawings, I tried colored pencils but didn’t like using them. Inktense was my answer, as it’s ink! The Neocolor’s, I feel, will fit right in. If you have any plastic cutting mats in the kitchen, you might have one with a rough texture similar to the Caran D’Ache palette. Thanks for this review. I wanted to expand my rather small collection of neocolour2and inadvertently saw the Kyra’s and got curious. They are either made or owned by Daler Rowney who do really nice art supplies even though they are not as popular, so I thought I would look further as the neos are nearly three pounds here, so not May for £10, and the Lara’s look really sooo much better value. I actually liked the way they look better in your video, especially the butterfly. I do not mind being a little heavier handed, in fact I need to be pushed into it! Thanks for a great and very comprehensive video. Btw the reason the Prussian blue was really problematic is because it’s a very weird pigment anyway, the most difficult to deal with and quite difficult to mix because it is so light and flocculent, it’s an absolute nightmare to mull, or even to keep track of! So I guess the dry crumb lines came from that.

Excellent video, I love exploring new art supplies! I have the caran d'ache palette but prefer to use it for my watercolor pencils rather than my neocolors. I think it's too toothy for the neocolors since they are so soft. I'm guessing it WOULD be nice for the lyras since they look sturdier. To be honest you could run down to the dollar store and grab a cheap cutting mat and it would be just as great (thanks frugal crafter! Lol)

Caran D'ache makes a textured palette to used with watercolor crayons and pencils! Got it in my stocking!

Lay down colour with the crayons on the side to create a tonal ground then mist and leave it to blend its self and you will have a soft out of focus background to work over regards Steve

Excelente comparación. No he probado los Neocolor ll pero tengo los Aquacolor y me gustan muchísimo. Me parece que no hay gran diferencia entre ambas marcas y que otros factores pueden influir más en el resultado, como es el tipo de papel. Personalmente, considero que la caja de 84 Neocolor ll es la mejor opción porque contiene más cantidad de colores. Pero si no puedes gastar tanto y tienes que conformarte con una caja más pequeña, yo elegiría la de 48 Aquacolor Lyra por su excelente relación calidad/precio y porque me resulta más satisfactorio tener un set completo que una selección de una gama más amplia, aunque reconozco que esto último es más bien una manía mía 😅

thank you for this review, I'm contemplating of getting a set of watersoluble crayons and Neocolor II seem like the best choice. I have to order them on Amazon and they are all similar in price for a set of about 40.

I have the Lyra pencils and watercolour pencils. They are decent. Not quite as good as polychromos but definitely better than cheap pencils. I feel they are a great brand to experiment with and use occasionally. Then if you really love them you can get a more professional brand.

Please compare mungyo water crayons against neocolor 2. I've heard from everyone that have both that mungyo are better than neocolor 2
