Lyophilization, also known as freeze-drying, is a process used to remove water from a substance, typically a pharmaceutical or food product, by freezing it and then subjecting it to reduced pressure. This process preserves the substance by preventing the formation of ice crystals and allows for long-term storage without deterioration.
It consists of three stages .
1. Freezing
2. Primary drying
3. Secondary drying.
