@@davidtullis2810 They were all on a single plane. Ronnie was laying on the floor, sleeping when the trees scraped across the bottom. The 20 survivors had some seriously bad injuries, such as Billy Powell's nose was sheared off and had to be reattached. Allen suffered injured discs and his right hand took a beating. Artimus Pyle probably had the less injuries and was able to walk from the rural crash site to find help. The others couldn't walk. There's a documentary here on KZread any Lynyrd Skynyrd fan might appreciate.

My favorite song by Lynyrd Skynyrd is Simple Man followed by in no particular order Free Bird, Tuesday’s Gone, Call Me The Breeze and The Ballad of Curtis Lowe. I was lucky enough to see them three times before the plane crash with the first being at The Tennessee State Fair in 1974 in Nashville while I was stationed at Ff. Campbell, Kentucky. Skynyrd played first then ZZTop and it was a rockin good time and in my humble opinion Lynyrd Skynyrd stole the show.

I remember in junior high I had this album well in fact I had all of their albums plus the Muscle Shoals recordings early on, but like a lot of kids that era of my life was the best of times and the worst of times, and when it was the worst of times, this was one of those songs that could actually make me feel somehow even though I was experiencing all the pain and the regret and the heartache expressed in his voice and in the overall arrangement, but it still rocked enough for a ballad that it kept me glued to it on that level as well. It evokes so many emotions! The Ballad Of Curtis Loew, if you haven't already done it. Also I bet you guys would love Railroad Song.

Another great choice, so glad you reviewed this. Always appreciate when a band employs anything from an orchestra - violin, horns, flute, sax. And of course piano. Takes it all to a whole new level. As far as a song that tells a story, you should listen to Ballad of Curtis Loew. I love how real and down to earth this band was. Well the original band anyway. No offense to the later members but it just wasn't the same after they lost the original cast. Happy Holidays, gents.

Hello La & Che, I'd like to suggest another artist that was an incredibly gifted storyteller, if interested. "You Don't Mess Around With Jim by Jim Croce on the Dick Cavett Show" (by the channel: upperdarbybill) This is a taped performance on a tv show that was very popular during this period. Maury Muehleisen on second acoustic performed with Croce during this performance. --James Joseph Croce was an American folk-rock singer, songwriter and guitarist. Who was very popular during the late 60's and early 70's. He released five studio albums and numerous singles during his short career. Sadly, we lost Jim Croce and five others in a plane crash in 1973. A single-engine plane in which he and five others were riding, hit a tree on takeoff. RIP: Jim Croce 💔 🔥U R Missed But he left some beautiful tunes to remember him by and we are very grateful. 🙏

So so happy that you guys got into this one. As usual you've got the knowledge to understand how and why this is a classic. A couple of things, the orchestration was a mellotron keyboard which along with creamy phasers on the guitars, piano and even a B3 organ made this a dense rich production. Drums by Bob Burns who quit after the 2nd LP, everyone is playing at the top but special mention to the fluid superb bass playing by Leon Wilkeson.
