Well said. I have lunch with an old friend around once a month. He grew up with Johnny Van Zant and played bass in his first band, The Austin Nichols Band. He texted me first thing when he heard the news. The band kept crisscrossing my life through the years. My wife heard their first album from a cassette tape when the band came to her girlfriend's apartment when she was visiting her, her friend was dating Gary Rossington at the time. Ronnie Van Zant told them that they had just finished their first album and wanted the girls to hear it. True story.
What happened to the younger generations? I’m only 37 but I would love to go back to a time when bands would write these 6-10 minute just epic songs where every note was powerful. Nothing better than a song like this or rhapsody comes on and it’s just like hey life. Leave me alone for the next 7 minutes.

My grandmother died right before my senior year. I was riding with my older sister to the funeral, about a 10 minute drive. This song came on the radio and my sister went silent. I could tell something was up. Then she said "I prayed that we would hear this song today." I'll never forget that moment. Every time this comes on I remember that. Please also take comfort in your unbreakable bond with your sibling, something I sadly lost forever once Mum left as she was the glue that held our family together and without her, my two brothers couldn't stay solid, my dad died in 2008, leaving me with nobody blood related that cared for me.....thankfully I have an angel of a Husband who has more than enough love to keep me afloat. Train roll on On down the line, won't you Please take me far away Now I feel the wind blow Outside my door, means I'm I'm leaving my woman at home, Lordy Tuesday's gone with the wind Oh, my baby's gone, with the wind And I don't know Oh, where I'm going I just want to be left alone Well, when this train ends I'll try again, oh but I'm I'm leaving my woman at home, Lordy Tuesday's gone, with the wind Tuesday's gone, with the wind Tuesday's gone, with the wind My baby's gone, with the wind Train roll on Tuesday's gone The train roll on A many miles from my home, see I'm I'm riding my blues away, yeah Well Tuesday, you see Oh, she had to be free, Lord but Somehow I got to carry on, Lordy Tuesday's gone, with the wind Tuesday's gone, with the wind Tuesday's gone, with the wind, oh My baby's gone, with the wind Train, roll on, ooh 'Cause my baby's gone I'm riding my blues babe Trying to ride my blues Ride on train Ride on train Ride my blues, babe Come back to me, babe Come back to me, oh, train

Top 5 American bands!…HANDS DOWN!
One of the most beautiful songs ever written!
Amazing Southern anthem, one of the best songs in history.
This whole album is a Gem; From the beginning Riff of "Ain't the One" until the last Note of "Freebird"

From the beginning to the end, it is a Gem. They don't make albums like that anymore. I like the "second helping " album almost as much as the first album. With the original band they didn't write a bad song. All of them were hits.

@@mikerine5438 I know it wasn't a commercial success; and Ed King had left the band; But "Gimme Back My Bullets" is my second fave, behind "Pronounced"

rrrrrrrrrrrrright you are !!!!!
This was my brothers favorite band of all time and we found him on Tuesday 😢love you Allen fly high Freebird.
I won't go as far as to say this is the best song ever written. However, I believe it is ONE of the best songs ever written. And it is certainly MY favorite song of all time. I told my daughters to bury me to this one. Ronnie Van Zant, just nobody could match his songwriting. He and Allen Collins wrote this, but somehow I really think of Gary Rossington when I hear it. I guess it's Gary's soulful solos, just beautiful. Ronnie was a genius, the way he told the story of leaving his woman, and her needing to be free, around his actual divorce (which happened on a Tuesday). Using Tuesday as a metaphor.... This 22 year old kid came up with this! Just absolutely incredible. RIP to all of the incredible musicians that made up the most incredible band ever, the mighty Lynyrd Skynyrd band.
Rest easy carl weathers
I'm listening to them all. My favorite guitarist. Passed away today. RIP GARY ROSSINGTON
