Yes yes I've enjoyed all the big hits off this album for years, actually ever since it came out. But you know the song that's haunting me the most as I listen to the album back to front after many years away from it? One More Time. That melancholy guitar TELLS me this poor bstrd is not going to leave the next morning and will keep hanging on. One more time, then one more, then one more...The guitar is the truth-teller here. While the lyrics are big man talk. That's some piece of genius from Mr. Rossington. RIP.

One of favorites. It was recorded six years before it was released on street survivors, on the 1971 muscle shoals demo. While Steve Gains, Leon Wilkison, Artimus Pyle recorded it for SS. It was Ed King, Ricky Medlock, Greg T Walker who originally recorded it. It was added to SS because they decided to drop another track and I think the song that was dropped was Jacksonville Kid. Written by the Hag for Ronnie. ( not 100% sure about the last part )

The Legends had support that so few mention. "The Honketts" The following are excerpts from wiki. Cassie Gaines was invited by JoJo Billingsley and Ronnie Van Zant to join Lynyrd Skynyrd as a backup singer. She had never heard of the band at the time, so Billingsley lent her a copy of the band's first two albums: In late 1975, Gaines, Billingsley, and Leslie Hawkins formed The Honkettes, a female gospel vocal trio for Skynyrd. When Lynyrd Skynyrd was in need of a guitar player to replace recently departed Ed King, Cassie recommended her younger brother, Steve, who joined the band soon after.

Ed King plays the leads on this tune. It's a beautiful strat tone too. Not sure if it's the 73 strat that was on SHA though. The earlier version is great too. Ed and Gary played off one another so well in the writing process. Gary was strumming chords on Ed Kings first day and SHA was born. one of Americas most genuine bands imo.
@davemack6384
Жыл бұрын
I could be wrong on the outro lead. The tone does at times lean toward a LP. One can get there with a strat and it's difficult for me to pin it. Gary could obviously play a strat in studio as well. The phrasing of the solo has Ed King all over it if I were a betting man.

Alright Skynyrd fans, we know this was recorded in 1971 when Ed King was in the band. I have no doubt that’s Ed on a Stratocaster doing the volume swell, “steel like” licks…BUT, I think there’s actually steel guitar as well. Ed is credited as “guitar” in the liner notes…Medlocke on bass, etc. What’s you all’s thoughts?

For everyone that keeps saying Ed King did this solo, I don’t believe it is. 1) it’s being played off of the Street Survivor album. Ed was not with them at that time. 2) you can clearly hear the Honkettes singing backup. 3) Ed left the band in mid 1975 in the middle of a tour and the Honkettes were hired at the end of 1975, after Ed had already left the band.

Everything about this song man. Listen to the Honkettes too. The best of the best. RIP my brothers and thank you.
RVZ made us think about the idea that the man was done wrong, it was the other way around.
Such a great song and you never hear it!
Hidden gem.
Leonard skinner approves this band....
Always knew about this band all the way back from middle school. Listened to all the big ones like free bird, saturday night special, gimme 3 steps. But never REALLY went down the rabbit hole. Im 28 now. So ive been sleeping on this band. Also like the Allman BB. These guys walked so my favorite band (The Sheepdogs) could run.

Rossington. RIP.
My favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song because you got what it takes sweet mama

One more time to get you off my mind lol
How can you stand there smilin' After all you've done You know it seems to make you happy When you've hurt someone Twice before you fooled me With your deceivin' and lyin' Come in and close the door One more time, one more time Yeah you've been gone so long No one knows where And you say that you still love me Then show me you care 'Cause you got what it takes sweet mama To make a man feel fine So I'll take the word of a liar One more time, one more time Girl you've got me hungry Losin' my mind I know I'm playin' with fire Get burned every time Yes I'm a fool for you baby I can't deny But I got to have your sweet love One more time, one more time Girl you've got me hungry Losin' my mind I know I'm playin' with fire I get burned every time Yes I'm a fool for you mama I can't deny But I got to have your sweet love One more time, one more time Yes I'm her fool once more I can read her brown eyes But when the rooster crows tomorrow Well its her turn to cry I'm headed down that old road She lost her free ride So tonight I'll take what I paid for One more time, one more time One more time

A classic band from the 70s everyone loved
So well played. TD Atlanta
This song is actually a waltz. 😮
Just a tragic end!! Still can’t believe it!!
Glad they finished this song for Street Survivors.
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Love this
Do my curly imitation during the steel guitar mmmm mmmmm mmmmm great song great album

Nothing against the song Free Bird great song but how is this song not that popular this song is incredible
Everything Lynyrd Skynyrd dead was underrated
Definitely living that
to think this song was written in 1971 and released in 1977 the drumming is Ricky theres even Pedal steel no piano either
They did not even peak yet ! They were close but I believe they had a few more albums left ! Steve would write more and even sing more on future albums if the plane did not go down !
This is a Gary composition...I've read on Wikipedia that he also played the solo. Its a great solo. One of skynyrds best. He seems like the least likely of the 3 to have played it in my opinion. Very little info out there on it. Anyone know anything else?

Ed King plays the leads on this tune. It's a beautiful strat tone too. Not sure if it's the 73 strat that was on SHA though. The earlier version is great too. Ed and Gary played off one another so well in the writing process. Gary was strumming chords on Ed Kings first day and SHA was born. one of Americas most genuine bands imo.

I could be wrong on the outro lead. The tone does at times lean toward a LP. One can get there with a strat and it's difficult for me to pin it. Gary could obviously play a strat in studio as well. The phrasing of the solo has Ed King all over it if I were a betting man.

sounds like Ed KIng, like when he played a solo in Whisky Rock a roller, very melodic.

@@kekkic I have a list of all the solos and fills...here is what i have for this song...One More Time . Volume swell leads: Ed . All solos: Gary (listen to the run he makes at the end of the 1st solo, that's Gary bending style) .
Last Free Bird FLY HIGH AND YOU ARE THE BEST, REGARDS TO ALL OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILY LOVE YOU AND ALL THE REST OF THE WORLD'S BEST BAND EVER TEL RONNIE AND BILLY ALAN ALL OF THEN THE WORLD'S BEST BAND EVER
Man haven't we all and still seems to be
The record companies & publishers of the original album should be ashamed. This album cover went away after the plane crash. Now, it's reproduced over & Over.
❤❤
Must’ve been some DAMN good poontang to get this epic song written about it 🤣
Fate, can be a wonderful. Or a terrible thing. Only to leave perplexity behind......
👍
Did Steve Gaines play lead guitar or rhythm guitar or both?
The secret with RVZ is that most of the songs he wrote were from a woman's perspective That is his genius.

Ronnie did it all for the nookie
For everyone that keeps saying Ed King did this solo, I don’t believe it is. 1) it’s being played off of the Street Survivor album. Ed was not with them at that time. 2) you can clearly hear the Honkettes singing backup. 3) Ed left the band in mid 1975 in the middle of a tour and the Honkettes were hired at the end of 1975, after Ed had already left the band.
