Thank You for the insightful review. I think the ideas expressed in Lynda Barry's books serve two audiences. The first is children and young people (before kindergarten, kindergarten, middle school, high school). The book opens their minds to possibilities without limitation. She asks questions that allow them to freely explore their own ideas. She helps them discover their own voices and creative individuality. The second audience is for young adults and adults (college students, middle age, older age, etc...). The purpose is to help them discover or rediscover their own creativity. It helps them to find their creative voice. It allows them to strip away arbitrary limitations place on them by ___?___. It frees them to look inside themselves to find what speaks to them and makes them uniquely special. It is a gift of self reflection and insight. She teaches both audiences the importance of valuing the Self and limitless potential.

As I said in my last comment on another video. I ordered this book the other day from amazon. I will be getting it tomorrow in the mail. Thanks for sharing your review of it. I really don't know who mentioned this book to me earlier this week but it's so weird how you mention it to me again. Happy journaling.

TYFS your book review! Reminded me of a weekly assignment/homework that I had in a HS English class...we had to sit quietly & mindfully for 15-20 mins...using each of our senses & then write about the experience. We had to turn in our spiral notebooks/journals each week. That was 40+ years ago & I still have found memories of doing this! It's so important to take time to be present & notice what's around us..."stop & smell the roses"!! 😊💖🦋🐦🌹

Thank you so much for this video. I have had this book for a number of years and each time I would pull it out, I would be so overwhelmed with the material that it scared me off and I put it back on the shelf. Your "tour" of the book is so helpful. I am going to try it again!

Really appreciated this video, this book is in and out of my basket, because some of the amazon reviews were from people who didn't understand what this is or how you might use it in journalling. 🌞🌻🌻

I am journaling as I watch...and loving Chisholm and your enthusiasm for it!! I just wrote two columns extra at the foot of today's entry.....what did I see and what did I hear.....and going to do that regularly from now on...this first entry has...birdsong, my house alarm going off at 5am, food landing in my partner's huge lockdown beard, a woman and her toddler skipping!!! Wow!!!! The power of the small things to tell a story!!! Thank you Elizabeth. Love from Lou in the UK x

I stopped your video part way through to go and get on my online library account where I immediately put Syllabus on hold. I think some of your other subscribers beat me to it, since I'll have to wait to borrow a copy. But, you know what they say, "Good things come to those who wait." Looking forward to spending time with Lynda Barry! Thanks so much for your in-depth review!!

I so wish, as a college instructor, that we could send that out as a syllabus. Now there is so much required "legaleze" it would never fly. Doesn't stop from sending out 2 though.... the legal one and the "real" one! As a therapist, I LOVE this and can use so many of these idea's as creative interventions!

This book looks really inspiring and encouraging. I love composition books too, by the way. Unfortunately, we don't have them in Germany. Well, not quite true, there are similar books nowadays in A4 format, but they are not quite the same. We just don't have the composition book concept over here. :-D A friend in the US gifted me with some comp books last year. The first one will be filled up by the end of this week. Have a great rest of your week, Elizabeth! Best, Doris

I homeschool my kids 10-16 years old. I’m curious if you think this would be to grown up for kids to do with me or if you think it could work? I don’t have any of these books but I’m definitely interested in getting one or all. If you think it could work may I ask which one of her books you think would be best for kiddos? This is exciting 🤪 thanks for sharing!!!

Thank you so much for watching Michelle!! Kudos to you for homeschooling :) I homeschooled mine from beginning to end. I would use the Syllabus book as a reference and build lessons around it; it is not a book that has a particular plan if that makes sense. HTH Be safe and be well, Elizabeth
