Linda Berry came to my class one afternoon in 6th grade. Mountain View elementary in Ferndale Washington. Taught us some art. She told us about The Rocket newspaper that she drew for. So I started reading The Rocket. She had real red hair then SHE WAS AWESOME Thank You Linda Berry.
Make her an honorary Canadian officially. A True inspiration.
I was in my early 20s when I lived in Chicago in the 1990s. I religiously picked up the Reader and certainly saw her work. I'm 46 now and just discovered her, ordered all her books I can find second-hand, and began sketching myself. Inspired is an understatement.
One of my absolutely favorite people. I'll definitely break into tears if I ever get to meet her. Thanks for this juicy interview.
Lovers of young adult literature NEED to understand the debt the genre owes to Lynda Barry (--print and visual content).
Why have I never heard of this lady? She’s amazing! Insightful and intelligent!

I hope you went down the rabbit hole and found her work. She is brilliant.
Such a grounded and down to earth inspiration! I love her!
She is so sweet and smart, great interview!
One of the most fantastic artists I know. What she writes or draws about is profound, funny, dark, surprising, human, magical.

I'm glad you remarked on the print content along with the imagery. Her micro-fictions were able to expose a moment in such a startling way.
I love her braids and her attitude.
Ah! The days of good reading, matt groening and lynda barry in a throw-away weekly.

AND, along with Barry, I remember reading David Lynch's comic, too: The Angriest Dog in the World.
Thank you so much for this. She is truly an inspiration in every way!
Just found out about her work, she's great!
She is such a inspiration, great interview
I desperately want a tee shirt like Lynda's!! What a great interview, love Lynda's approach to art and life: she is delightful.
Great interview!! Thanks for your commentary about deification and the arts. I love that you both encourage all to venture out and begin something, some art or some music, no matter what age.
She is amazing! Great interview. Thanks!
She taught me how to draw Marlys. It was very pleasing.
This interview is so much fun
Great interview!
love you Lynda!-
In middle school, I would try to draw trees, and draw every leaf, or try to draw pagodas, with detail, and I always was graded a "D" or "F", because I did not colour it in. Crayons ruined the pictures, because you could not mix them to get the right depth, and they do not stay within the lines. Really put me off drawing. If Lynda Barry had been around, I would be enjoying my art.
She sounds like her characters, her voice, that is.
My Hero.
She’s so cool
Please stay being an American Lynda Barry! We need you! : )
All the coolest people i know want to be Canadian.
Cool.
